  • In this paper, we develop analysis models for classification of temporal data from human subjects. The study focuses on the analysis of electroencephalogram (EEG) signals obtained during various emotional states. We demonstrate a generally applicable method of removing EOG and EMG artifacts from EEGs based on independent component analysis (ICA). All EEG channel maps were interpolated from 10 EEG subbands. ICA methods are based on the assumptions that the signals recorded on the scalp are mixtures of signals from independent cerebral and artifactual sources, that potentials arising from different parts of the brain, scalp and body are summed linearly at the electrodes and that prop...

  • In this paper we define linearly independent, basis, free, torsion-free and torsion-free completely on an automation. We prove a theorem describing a relationship between free and torsion-free completely on automata. Also we prove some important properties of them. Furthermore, we discuss some theorems associated with free.

  • In this paper, we proposed a method for acoustic echo cancellation based on independent component analysis. When the large acoustic noise is picked up by the microphone, the performance of echo cancellation decreased. We used two microphones that received echo signal which is linearly mixed with the noise, then separated the echo signals from the received signals with independent component analysis algorithm. The separated echo signal is used for the reference signal of adaptive algorithm which leads to better performance of the echo cancellation. Computer simulation results show the validity of the proposed method.

  • This paper presents a theoretical investigation of power reflection and transmission coefficients for a meander-line polarizer placed periodically on a chiral slab. It is assumed that a linearly polarized transverse magnetic wave is incident on a chiral slab from the air region. In the analysis, we derive the electric and magnetic fields in the modal form in the air and chiral regions. We obtain power reflection and transmission coefficients in a straightforward manner after matching the tangential components of the electric and magnetic fields at the boundaries. We present numerical results for the power reflection and transmission coefficients versus frequency and incident angle for different values of the chirality admittance. A meander-line polarizer placed on a dielectric slab can convert a linearly polarized wave to a circularly polarized wave. The design parameters for a meander-line polarizer are the dimensions of the meander-line and the values of the dielectric slab. Replacing a dielectric slab with a chiral slab introduces a new independent parameter which controls the wave polarization.

  • We show a class of homogeneous polynomials of Fermat-Waring type such that for a polynomial P of this class, if $P(f_1,{\ldots},f_{N+1})=P(g_1,{\ldots},g_{N+1})$, where $f_1,{\ldots},f_{N+1}$; $g_1,{\ldots},g_{N+1}$ are two families of linearly independent entire functions, then $f_i=cg_i$, $i=1,2,{\ldots},N+1$, where c is a root of unity. As a consequence, we prove that if X is a hypersurface defined by a homogeneous polynomial in this class, then X is a unique range set for linearly non-degenerate non-Archimedean holomorphic curves.

  • The thermal and mechanical properties of compacted bentonite and bentonite-sand mixture were collected from the literatures and compiled. The thermal conductivity of bentonite is found to increase almost linearly with increasing dry density and water content of the bentonite. The specific heat can also be expressed as a function of water ontent, and the coefficient of thermal expansion is almost independent on the dry density. The logarithm of unconfined compressive strength and Young’s modulus of elasticity increase linearly with increasing dry density, and in the case of constant dry density, it can be fitted to a second order polynomial of water content. Also the unconfined compressive strength and Young’s modulus of elasticity of the bentonite-sand mixture decreases with increasing sand content. The Poisson’s ratio remains constant at the dry density higher than 1.6 Mg/m$_3$, and the shear strength increases with increasing dry density.

  • There are many methods in feature extraction have been developed. Recently, principal components analysis (PCA) and independent components analysis (ICA) is introduced for doing feature extraction. PCA and ICA linearly transform the original input into new uncorrelated and independent features space respectively In this paper, the feasibility of using nonlinear feature extraction will be studied. This method will employ the PCA and ICA procedure and adopt the kernel trick to nonlinearly map the data into a feature space. The goal of this study is to seek effectively useful feature for faults classification.

  • In this paper we shall introduce the algebraic structure of a tensor product for arbitrarily given automata, giving a defintion of the tensor product for automata. We introduce and study that for any set X there always exists a free automaton on X. The existence of a tensor product for automata will be investigated in the same way like modules do.

  • A new method of blocking effects reduction is proposed in this paper for use in low bitrate image coding. We use 28 DCT kernel functions of which boundary values are linearly independent, and Gram-Schmidt process is applied to the boundary values in order to obtain 28 boundary-orthonormal basis images. Then we use these basis images to obtain the correction terms for blocking artifacts reduction. A threshold of block discontinuity is introduced for improvement of visual quality by reducing image blurring. We also investigate the number of basis images needed for efficient blocking artifacts reduction when the compression ratio changes.

  • The linear Consecutive-k-out-of-n:F system consists of n component ordered linearly and fail if and only if at least k consecutive components fail. We assume that the components are independent and identical exponentially distributed. This paper develops a model to calculate the expected cost per unit time of a linear consecutive-k-out-of-n:F system. The optimization problem we consider regards the choice of the system structure parameter k to minimized the expected cost per unit time.
