A Study on the Crash Characteristics and Analysis of Spot+adhesive Welds in Automobile B-pillar Parts (자동차 B-pillar부품의 스폿용접 및 접착 혼용 용접부의 충돌특성 및 해석에 관한 연구)

  • In the present day, the needs of new steel for lightweight car-body have been increased in the automotive industry. however, the resistance spot welding is difficult to apply to the new steel because of the narrow weld current range and defects. As the solutions to these problems, adhesive bonding process is proposed. Adhesive bonding which reduce noise and vibration can be applied to joining the new steel. In this study, crash tests of b-pillar applied the resistance spot welding, structural adhesive bonding, the mixture of the structural adhesives and resistance spot welding were performed. And FEM crash model for b-pillar applied the structural adhesive bonding was developed. The results of experiment and analysis on b-pillar crash test were compared to verify the validity.

Optimum Design of A-Pillar Trim for Occupant Protection (승원 안전을 고려한 승용차 A-Pillar Trim의 최적 설계)

  • NHTSA has been conducting biomechanical studies to reduce inujuries sustained sustained during automotive collision. Furthermore, NHTSA added the regulation to the FMVSS 201, limiting the equivalent HIC(Head Injury Criterion) value under 1000. In the presont work, a methodology was developed for the optimum design of the A-pillar trim with rib-structures. The design variables for the rib-strucrures were the transverse spacing, the longitudinal spacing, and the thickness. The required sets of the design varibles were decided based on the design of experiments. The head impact simulations were carried out using the LS-DYNA3D, and the HIC(d) values were computed using the resulrs of the head impact simulation. The objective function was constructed using the response surface methed (RSM). When the obtained optimum values were not inside the region of interest, the design proceduers were repeated by changing the region of interest. Finally, an A-pillar trim with rib-structures, which resulred in HIC(d) value under 850 for 15 mph head-trim impact, was developed.

Fabrication of Superjunction Trench Gate Power MOSFETs Using BSG-Doped Deep Trench of p-Pillar

  • In this paper, we propose a superjunction trench gate MOSFET (SJ TGMOSFET) fabricated through a simple p-pillar forming process using deep trench and boron silicate glass doping process technology to reduce the process complexity. Throughout the various boron doping experiments, as well as the process simulations, we optimize the process conditions related with the p-pillar depth, lateral boron doping concentration, and diffusion temperature. Compared with a conventional TGMOSFET, the potential of the SJ TGMOSFET is more uniformly distributed and widely spread in the bulk region of the n-drift layer due to the trenched p-pillar. The measured breakdown voltage of the SJ TGMOSFET is at least 28% more than that of a conventional device.

Assessment of minimum pillar width and reinforcement of parallel tunnel using numerical analysis and field monitoring (수치해석과 현장계측을 통한 병렬터널의 최소 필라폭과 보강에 대한 평가)

  • Nationally, tunnel and underground constructions are necessary for the environmental sustainability and the efficient use of land space. For the importance of eco-friendly circumstances, 2-arch or large road tunnel has been designed so far. However, such a 2-arch or large tunnel has problems in terms of cost, constructability, construction period, and maintenance. Therefore, in this study, tunnel behavior and stability of rock pillar according to the pillar width and cover depth for parallel tunnels are investigated by performing FE analysis and using empirical formula. According to the results, Rock pillar is reinforced for distributed vertical load by Tie-Bolt due to unpredicted ground deformation, and the reinforced rock pillar's behaviour from the FE analysis shows a quite good agreement with field measurement. According to ground conditions, if the pillar width of the parallel tunnels is reduced, it can be more efficient in use of the tunnel space compared to previous tunnels.

  • This paper aims to check the multi-pillar pension system in Korea. That is why, We analyzed the insured status of people in terms of multi-pillar pension system including National Pension Service, Private Pension, Retirement Pension over time. The main findings are as follows; firstly, the 'multi-pillar type'(27.7%), the 'public pension type'(12.8%) and the 'insecure type'(59.6%) have been formed. Secondly, any socio-demographic factors like labor market status, gender, age et cetera could not guarantee the pension right for multi-pillar system. As a result, we emphasize that including the 'insecure type' into public pension schemes is a prerequisite for establishing the multi-pillar pension system.

  • In this study, in order to suggest the design method for supports in the room-and-pillar underground structure, the case study was carried out. In the case study, shape of rock pillar and room was mainly considered. From the analysis, a displacement at the roof, the maximum principle stress and plastic state were examined. To optimize variables in the case study, cases from the Seoul metro station were analyzed, then a target depth of the underground structure and ground conditions were determined. And the height of rock pillar and room were chosen from the assumed purpose of underground space, i.e. living/office and warehouse. Total cases of analysis was 180 cases including 3 types of ground condition, 5 types of rock pillar and 6 types of roof span. It is expected that results from analysis can be used to determine the installation of support in room-and-pillar underground structure with stability, utilization efficiency of underground space and applicability of vehicles.

  • Recently, as the demand for high-performance computers and mobile products increases, semiconductor packages are becoming high-integration and high-density. Therefore, in order to transmit a large amount of data at once, micro bumps such as flip-chip and Cu pillar that can reduce bump size and pitch and increase I/O density are used. However, when the size of the bumps is smaller than 70 ㎛, the brittleness increases and electrical properties decrease due to the rapid increase of the IMC volume fraction in the solder joint, which deteriorates the reliability of the solder joint. Therefore, in order to improve these issues, a layer that serves to prevent diffusion is inserted between the UBM (Under Bump Metallization) or pillar and the solder cap. In this review paper, various studies to improve bonding properties by suppressing excessive IMC growth of micro-bumps through additional layer insertion were compared and analyzed.

  • This paper considers a six sigma project for improving productivity of the brace complement center pillar. The project follows a disciplined process of fife phases: define, measure, analyze, improve, and control. A process map is used to identify process input and output variables. Eleven key process input variables are selected by using X&Y matrix and FMEA, and finally eight vital few input variables are selected from analyze phase. The optimum process conditions of the vital few input variables are jointly obtained by maximizing productivity of the brace complement center pillar using DOE and alternative selection method.

  • In this paper, an apparatus for unbinding the rope is studied to solve continuous work of the auto cleaning apparatus of a pillar. During operation of the auto cleaning apparatus of a pillar, in order to not swing the apparatus is down by it's weight according as electric motor velocity. We focus on the design and the implementation to upgrade the auto cleaning apparatus of a pillar that had been implemented.

Structural Analysis and Design of B-pillar Reinforcement using Composite Materials (복합소재를 활용한 B필러 강화재의 구조해석 및 설계)

  • This paper aims to reduce weight by replacing the reinforcements of the B-pillar used in vehicles with CFRP(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics) and GFRP(Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastics) from the existing steel materials. For this, it is necessary to secure structural stability that can replace the existing B-pillar while reducing the weight. Existing B-pillar are composed of steel reinforcements of various shapes, including a steel outer. Among these steel reinforcements, two steel reinforcements are to be replaced with composite materials. Each steel reinforcement is manufactured separately and bonded to the B-pillar outer by welding. However, the composite reinforcements presented in this paper are manufactured at once through compression and injection processes using patch-type CFRP and rib-structured GFRP. CFRP is attached to the high-strength part of the B-pillar to resist side loads, and the GFRP ribs are designed to resist torsion and side loads through a topology optimization technique. Through structural analysis, the designed composite B-pillar was compared with the existing B-pillar, and the weight reduction ratio was calculated.
