  • This study was performed to investigate the effect of various propeller tunnel shapes on the propulsion performance of a fishing boat. The propeller tunnel reduces the problem resulting from the open propeller accidentally catching the waste net and cable on the sea, as well as increasing the cruising speed. For 3 different tunnel geometries, the model test is conducted in the circular water channel, and the potential based panel method was applied to analyze the hydrodynamic characteristics of propeller. Also, both results are compared with each other to represent the difference between results of the model scale test and the potential theory. It is expected that these results could be referenced in the design of the propeller tunnel in consideration of the hydrodynamic interaction between the propeller and the tunnel.

  • A model net experiment of the gape net for anchovy in Jindo, Jeollanam-do was carried out to investigate the net shape and hydrodynamic resistance using circulating water channel. The model net was made 1/33 down scale by Tauti's similarity method and the range of experimental current speed was from 0.5 knot to 3.5 knot (increasing 0.5 knot interval). The net mouth height in 0.5 knot of the minimum experiment current speed was shown 26.0 cm (full-scale conversion value 8.58 m). The net mouth height and mouth area in 1.5 knot of the same current speed with a gape net fishing ground were shown 20.0 cm (full-scale conversion value : 6.60 m) and about $507.9cm^2$ (full-scale conversion value : $55.31m^2$). The net mouth height and area were decreased with increase the experimental current speed. The hydrodynamic resistance of the model net in 1.5 knot current speed was shown 1.11 kgf and the value of full-scale conversion by Tauti's method was shown 3.996 ton.

  • Ballasted gravel will be damaged or worn by the repetitive train load. And these damages of ballast gravel could be increased by increasing vehicle speed. Therefore, various techniques for reducing the ballast pressure have been proposed, such as the attached pad type of sleeper bottom for ballasted track. In this study, spring stiffness test method were proposed to evaluate the performance of under sleeper pad for ballasted track. Standard ballast plate(SBP) was developed to simulate the ballast gravel and compared with the foreign test results. Experimental results showed a trend similar to the previous studies according to various loading plate type. specimen type(Type A, Type B) differences in spring stiffness according to hardness were not significant. Also, the FSP (Flat steel plate) - shaped jig is about 80% of the spring stiffness was greater than SBP. Therefore, to evaluate the actual spring stiffness of under sleeper pad for ballasted track, it was important to adopted the appropriate spring stiffness test method using the SBP to simulate actual field conditions.

  • In order to investigate the characteristics of the shear strength of the unsaturated cohesive soils which has mean characters of sand and clay widely used for banking, I selected soil samples from An-sung district and, against it, performed direct shear test and unconfined compression test changing grain size, compaction energy and moisture content and also performed triaxial compression test under optimum moisture content. The results are as follows; 1.As the passing percent of the No. 200 sieve increased from 23.6% to 56.1%, cohesion increased from 0. 202kg/cm2 to 0. 398kg/cm2 under the direct shear test and from 0.38 kg/cm2 to 1. 05kg/cm2 under the tria4al compression test, internal friction angle decreased from 44. 78$^{\circ}$ to 34. 34$^{\circ}$ under the direct shear test and from 31. 88$^{\circ}$ to 13. 31$^{\circ}$ under the triaxial compression test. 2.Cohesion showed it's maximum value around OMC and internal friction angle showed a tendency to increase according to the decrease of water content but it's increasing ratio was relatively slow. 3.Decreasing ratio of cohesion and internal friction angle was relatively sensitive according to the decrease of compaction energy. 4.The smaller of the vertical stress and the coarser of the grain size of samples, changing of the volume showed a tendency to increase and as the increase of water content, the shear displacement (dh) at failure shear stress ($\tau$f) showed maximum and the $\tau$f-dh curve was gentle. 5.To synthesize the results of the direct shear test and the triaxial compression test, cohesion showed higher under the triaxial compression test and internal friction angle showed a tendeney to appear higher under the direct shear test. It seems that we can get correspondent results by removing the side friction of mold with soils and adjusting the vertical stress and shearing speed under the direct shear test.

  • As the wafer geometric requirements continuously complicated and minutes in tens of nanometers, the expectation of real-time add-on sensors for in-situ plasma process monitoring is rapidly increasing. Various industry applications, utilizing plasma impedance monitor (PIM) and optical emission spectroscopy (OES), on etch end point detection, etch chemistry investigation, health monitoring, fault detection and classification, and advanced process control are good examples. However, process monitoring in semiconductor manufacturing industry requires non-invasiveness. The hypothesis behind the optical monitoring of plasma induced ion current is for the monitoring of plasma induced charging damage in non-invasive optical way. In plasma dielectric via etching, the bombardment of reactive ions on exposed conductor patterns may induce electrical current. Induced electrical charge can further flow down to device level, and accumulated charges in the consecutive plasma processes during back-end metallization can create plasma induced charging damage to shift the threshold voltage of device. As a preliminary research for the hypothesis, we performed two phases experiment to measure the plasma induced current in etch environmental condition. We fabricated electrical test circuits to convert induced current to flickering frequency of LED output, and the flickering frequency was measured by high speed optical plasma monitoring system (OPMS) in 10 kHz. Current-frequency calibration was done in offline by applying stepwise current increase while LED flickering was measured. Once the performance of the test circuits was evaluated, a metal pad for collecting ion bombardment during plasma etch condition was placed inside etch chamber, and the LED output frequency was measured in real-time. It was successful to acquire high speed optical emission data acquisition in 10 kHz. Offline measurement with the test circuitry was satisfactory, and we are continuously investigating the potential of real-time in-situ plasma induce current measurement via OPMS.

  • A light guide panel is an element of the LCD backlight module that is often used for the display of compact electronic devices. In this study, a laser marking system is proposed to fabricate light guide panel, which can be replaced of other manufacturing methods such as silk printing, stamping, and v-cutting methods. The objectives of this research are the establishment of laser marking system, evaluation of laser marking parameters, understanding marking process, application to PMMA, reliability test and quality inspection. A 50W $CO_2$ laser (CW) was used to perform different experiments in which, the influence of some processing parameters (average power, scanning speed) on the geometry and quality of groove pattern was studied. The width of the etched grooves increases with increasing a laser power and decreasing a scan speed. In order to analyze surface characteristics and optical properties (luminance, uniformity), SEM photography and BM7 (luminance measuring system) were used. As a result, the optimal conditions of the process parameters were determined.

  • Dual Phase (DP) steel which has a soft ferrite phase and a hard martensite phase reveals both high strength and high ductility and has received increased attention for use in automotive applications. To conduct structural analysis to verify vehicle safety, highly credible experimental results are required. In this study, tensile tests were performed in a strain rate range from $10^{-4}/s$ to 300/s for Sink Roll-Less (SRL) hot-dip metal coated sheets. Collision properties were estimated through simulation by LS-DYNA using the stress-strain curve obtained from the tensile test. The simulation results were compared with the actual crash test results to confirm the credibility of the simulation. In addition, a tensile test and a crash test with 2% prestrain and a baking (PB) specimen were evaluated identically because automotive steel is used after forming and painting. The mechanical behaviors were improved with an increasing strain rate regardless of the PB treatment. Thus, plastic deformation with an appropriate strain rate is expected to result in better formability and crash characteristics than plastic deformation with a static strain rate. The ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and absorbed energy up to 10% strain were improved even though the total elongation decreased after PB treatment, The results of the experimental crash test and computer simulation were slightly different but generally, a similar propensity was seen.

  • Many automotive components for power generation such as motors and alternators have been widely using ferrite magnets. To ensure a high level of efficiency could be achieved in an alternator, the assembled magnets must be in good enough durability. Recently, some hairline cracks have been found on the magnet produced by manufacturers in Korea. Thus, there is an increasing concern that some of the magnets produced could cause further problems after being assembled in the alternator. Based on the standard alternator test (RS0008 : 2006), this paper has developed an accelerated failure-free test for magnets in alternator to demonstrate that assembled magnets will meet durability objective specified by the manufacturer. This guarantees the target life of the magnet with 90 percent reliability and 90 percent confidence level (R90C90). Temperature and rotation speed were selected as accelerated stress factors.

  • One centrifugal compressor is applied for refrigeration and its working substance is R134a. The operating points obtained by using similar conversion at different rotation speeds are compared with the numerical results. They keep consistent with each other while the rotation speeds are lower, but the error between them will become large with the increasing of the rotation speed. Then the operating points are obtained when the working substance is air by using two similar conversion methods separately. Based on the comparison, it can be obtained that the result of keeping the specific volume ratio of inlet and outlet is more accurate than the result of maintaining Ma number. Then the test result is compared with the similarity result and the numerical result when the working substance is air. It is obtained that the similarity result is more consistent with the test result better than the numerical result and the trend of efficiency and pressure ratio change with the flow rate is consistent with the test result. In the process of similar conversion, the efficiency ${\eta}$ is no useful for similitude design and it has less influence on the conversion result.

  • For a rectangular-highrise building with aspect ratio about six, the resonant wind speed of wind-induced vibration or galloping start wing speed can be within the design wind speed. The wind-induced vibration and galloping of highrise building with aspect ratio $H/\sqrt{DB}=6$, side ratio D/B=1 to 2 at intervals of 1/4 D/B were investigated in smooth flow. For the reducing effect of wind-induced vibration of highrise building, rectangular-highrise building with corners cutting about side ratio D/B=2 were investigated. Experimental results show that in the smooth flow non corners-cutting cases have tendency of increasing wind-induced vibration and galloping vibration then corner-cutting section. Therefore, the wind-induced vibrations on rectangular-highrise buildings were reduced effectively by using corner cut method.
