  • Recently, the research of PM (Preventive Maintenance) method on the RCM(Reliability-Centered Maintenance) of the system equipment is being actively advanced for a few years. The state of the power equipment is maintained like the states of the between 'as good as new ones' and 'as bad as old ones' by imperfect Maintenance that implies the life decrease of the equipment by frequent breakdown, the error of maintenance process, and so on. So, the Maintenance method considering the real case has to reflect Imperfect maintenance than perfect maintenance. This paper suggests the Preventive Maintenance method by using Quasi - Renewal Theory for the gas turbine equipment as deliberating the imperfect maintenance for the real cases.

  • Today, as railways increase their capacity and speeds, it is more important than ever to be completely aware of the state of vehicles fleet's condition to ensure the highest quality and safety standards, as well as being able to maintain the costs as low as possible. Operation of a modern, dynamic and efficient railway demands a real time, accurate and reliable evaluation of the infrastructure assets, including signal networks and diagnostic systems able to acquire functional parameters. In the conventional system, measurement data are reliably collected using coaxial wires for communication between sensors and the repository. As sensors grow in size, the cost of the monitoring system can grow. Recently, auto-powered wireless sensor has been considered as an alternative tool for economical and accurate realization of structural health monitoring system, being provided by the following essential features: on-board micro-processor, sensing capability, wireless communication, auto-powered battery, and low cost. In this work, an original harvester device is designed to supply wireless sensor system battery using train bogie energy. Piezoelectric materials have in here considered due to their established ability to directly convert applied strain energy into usable electric energy and their relatively simple modelling into an integrated system. The mechanical and electrical properties of the system are studied according to the project specifications. The numerical formulation is implemented with in-house code using commercial software tool and then experimentally validated through a proof of concept setup using an excitation signal by a real application scenario.

  • This paper presents a state-of-the-art on the behaviour of steel joints under fire loading and some recent developments in this field, currently being carried out by the authors. Firstly, a review of the experimental research work on steel joints is presented, subdivided into isolated member tests, sub-structure tests and tests on complete building structures. Special emphasis is placed on the seventh Cardington test, carried out by the authors within a collaborative research project led by the Czech Technical University in Prague. Secondly, a brief review of various temperature distributions within a joint is presented, followed by a discussion of the behaviour of isolated joints at elevated temperature, focussing on failure modes and analytical procedures for predicting the moment-rotation behaviour of joints at elevated temperature. Finally, a description of the coupled behaviour of joints as part of complete structures is presented, describing previous work and investigations on real fire (including heating and cooling phases) currently being carried out by the authors.

  • A Telepresence service is an advanced video conferencing service at aimed providing remote users with the feeling of being present together at a particular location for a face-to-face group meeting. The effectiveness in this type of meeting can be further increased by automatically recognizing the audiovisual behaviors of the video conferencing users, accurately inferring their level of engagement from the recognized reactions, and providing proper feedback on their engagement state. In this paper, we review the recent developments of such engagement analysis techniques being utilized in various applications, such as human-robot interaction, content evaluation, telematics, and online collaboration services. In addition, we introduce a real-time engagement analysis framework employed in our telepresence service platform for an increased participation in online group collaboration settings.

  • Networks in Mobile ad hoc contain distribution and do not have a predefined structure which practically means that network modes can play the role of being clients or servers. The routing protocols used in mobile Ad-hoc networks (MANETs) are characterized by limited bandwidth, mobility, limited power supply, and routing protocols. Hybrid routing protocols solve the delay problem of reactive routing protocols and the routing overhead of proactive routing protocols. The Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm is used to solve other real-life problems such as the travelling salesman problem, capacity planning, and the vehicle routing challenge. Bio-inspired methods have probed lethal in helping to solve the problem domains in these networks. Hybrid routing protocols combine the distance vector routing protocol (DVRP) and the link-state routing protocol (LSRP) to solve the routing problem.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the new method for selection of a close to optimal scalar control of linear time-periodic system. The case of scalar control is considered, the gain matrix being assumed to be at worst periodic with the system period T. The form of gain matrix may have various kinds but must have same period, for example, one of each element being represented by Fourier series. As the optimal gain matrix I consider the matrix ensuring the minimum value of the larger real part of the Poincare exponents of the system. Finally we present a pole placement algorithm to make the given system be stable. It is possible to determine the stability of the given periodic system without get the analytic solution. The application of the method does not require the construction of the Floquet solution. At present state of determination of the gain matrix for this case will be done only by systematic numerical search procedures.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to determine an optimal production time for economic production quantity model with preventive maintenance and random defective rate as the function of a machinery deteriorates. Methods: If a machinery shifts from "in-control" state to "out-of-control" state, a proportion of defective items being produced increases. It is assumed that time to state shift is a random variable and follows an arbitrary distribution. The elapsed time until process shift decreases stochastically as a production cycle repeats and quasi-renewal process is used to implement for production facilities to deteriorate. Results: When the exponential parameter for exponential distribution increases, the optimal production time increases. When Weibull distribution is considered, the optimal production time is closely affected by the shape parameter of Weibull distribution. Conclusion: A mathematical model is suggested to find optimal production time and optimal number of production cycles and numerical examples are implemented to validate the patterns for changes of optimal times under different parameters assumptions. The real application is implemented using the proposed approach.

  • With the increasing demand for real time applications in the Wireless Senor Network (WSN), real time critical events anticipate an efficient quality-of-service (QoS) based routing for data delivery from the network infrastructure. Designing such QoS based routing protocol to meet the reliability and delay guarantee of critical events while preserving the energy efficiency is a challenging task. Considerable research has been focused on developing robust energy efficient QoS based routing protocols. In this paper, we present the state of the research by summarizing the work on QoS based routing protocols that has already been published and by highlighting the QoS issues that are being addressed. The performance comparison of QoS based routing protocols such as SAR, MMSPEED, MCMP, MCBR, and EQSR has also been analyzed using ns-2 for various parameters.

  • Critical nozzle has been frequently employed to measure the flow rate of various gases, but hydrogen gas, especially being at high-pressure condition, was not nearly dealt with the critical nozzle due to treatment danger. According to a few experimental data obtained recently, it was reported that the discharge coefficient of hydrogen gas through the critical nozzle exceeds unity in a specific range of Reynolds number. No detailed explanation on such an unreasonable value was made, but it was vaguely inferred as real gas effects. For the purpose of practical use of high-pressure hydrogen gas, systematic research is required to clarify the critical nozzle flow of high-pressure hydrogen gas. In the present study, a computational fluid dynamics(CFD) method has been applied to predict the critical nozzle flow of high-pressure hydrogen gas. Redlich-Kwong equation of state that take account for the forces and volume of molecules of hydrogen gas were incorporated into the axisymmetric, compressible Navier-Stokes equations. A fully implicit finite volume scheme was used to numerically solve the governing equations. The computational results were validated with some experimental data available. The results show that the coefficient of discharge coefficient is mainly influenced by the compressibility factor and the specific heat ratio, which appear more remarkable as the inlet total pressure of hydrogen gas increases.

  • Two methods which estimate manoeuvring derivatives in the model of hydrodynamic force and moment acting on a manoeuvring ship using sea trial data were compared. One is the widely used parameter estimation method by using the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF), which estimates state variables of linearized state space model at every instant after dealing with the coefficients as the augmented state variables. The other one is the Estimation-Before-Modeling (EBM) technique, so called the two-step method. In the first step, hydrodynamic force of which dynamic model is assumed the third-order Gauss-Markov process is estimated along with motion variables by the EKF and the modified Bryson-Frazier smoother. Then, in the next step, manoeuvring derivatives are identified through the regression analysis. If the exact structure of hydrodynamic force could be known, which was an ideal case, the EKF method would be regarded as being more superior compared to the EBM technique. However the EBM technique was more robust than the EKF method from a realistic point of view where the assumed model structure was slightly different from the real one.
