Purpose : This study aims to provide basic data for effective nursing interventions and improvement of nurses' work by exploring their work experiences in single-room-structured intensive care units (ICU) through focus group interviews. Methods : Data were collected through two focus group discussions conducted from March to November 2020 with 13 ICU nurses. Interviews were audio-recorded and analyzed thematically by investigators. Results : Through content analysis, 15 sub-categories and 6 categories were formed. Two themes, "positive experiences patients care in an independent space" and "difficulties in nursing work according to space separation of patients" emerged. There are positive aspects of single-room-structured ICUs, but it was found that practicing nurses had difficulties and required specialized nursing competencies. Therefore, efforts to reduce the burden of nurses in single-room-structured ICUs are necessary. Conclusion : The limitation of this study is that it was conducted in a single hospital because single-room-structured intensive care units are uncommon in Korea. However, this study is of great significance as a basis for establishing guidelines on the efforts required from nurses, hospitals, and governments single-room-structured ICUs in the future.
Recently, multi-room type heat pump system has aroused much attention, because it can achieve much reduction of installation cost and space as well as energy saving in companion with the single room type heat pump system. In the present study, performance characteristics of a 3 room type inverter driven heat pump system, which is widely spread in Japanese market, are measured.. In the single room operation, performances of a heat pump system such s the difference of compressor outlet and inlet pressures and the mass flowrate may increase with the increase of cooling capacity so that COP of the system decrease with the increase of cooling capacity. However, in the 2 room operation, mass flowrate and COP of the total system increase markedly as compared with the single room operation.
Background: It is widely acknowledged that single bedrooms have many potential advantages compared to multiple bedrooms. However, Korea has a reimbursement system that patients have to pay the additional fee if they will use single bedroom or pay-bed (1-3 bedroom). There is little research on patients' bed selection and relationship between patient satisfaction and bed type in the Korean setting. Methods: Using the 2017 Korea Health Panel (KHP) Survey data, we modified bed type by two dichotomous variables: single bedroom vs. multiple bedroom (2+ bedrooms) and pay-bed (1-3 bedroom) vs. reimbursed bed (4+ bedroom). Multivariate logistic regression is performed to determine the factors affecting the patient's choice of room types. Multivariate regression analysis was conducted to examine how hospital room types are affecting patient satisfaction. Results: Single room and pay-bed (1-3 bedroom) use was influenced by patient age (19- years old), male, a person at work, hospitalizing in a clinic, and birth. After controlling variables of the behavioral model of medical utilization, the association between patient satisfaction and use of single bedroom & pay-bed (1-3 bedroom). Cause of hospitalization, major treatment, and recognition of unnecessary care are statistically significant variables on patient satisfaction. Conclusion: Although the single room is about the standard for newly built hospitals in western countries, it remains unclear that single room or pay-bed (1-3 bedroom) has positive effects on patient's outcomes and satisfaction. In this empirical study, the difference in patient satisfaction by bedroom type was not noticeable. In terms of bed management by hospital staff, securing patient credibility in hospital care is an important task. Patients' perception of whether medical staffs have encouraged unnecessary treatment or tests has a significant impact on patient's satisfaction.
The purpose of the study is to propose the basic data for an aged residential building suitable for Korean environment and it is based on the outcomes of investigation on The Aged Care Residential Service in Australia including the scale and arrangement of private zone and specific characteristics of each compartment. The brief outcomes of the research are follows as. - The Aged Care Residential Services have been functionally running divided into Nursing home, Hostel and Retirement Village by the classification standard of the residential classification scale. - Single bed rooms have 75% of total residential area and the square of single bed room is about $20\textrm{m}^2$and that of two-bed room is about $31\textrm{m}^2$. - There are two types of ensuite such as one single-bed room and one ensuite and bed room for two or three persons and ensuite type. The square of ensuite varies as single is 50∼60%, single for public is 25∼30%, and double for public is 15∼20%. - Assisted bathrooms are generally located in the middle of building and it is suggested to be occupied about $1.25\textrm{m}^2$ per person. Sitting rooms are two types such as room type whose square has about $12\textrm{m}^2$ and a lounge type has $16\textrm{m}^2$.
Recently, the space organization of Korean-Chinese houses is different from that of other territories. The vast land of China, coming from different hometown in Korean peninsula, and the different hometown in Korean peninsula, and the different procedure of settlement seem to make the different space organization of Chinese-Korean single family housing at the urban area in Liaoning Province. The characteristics of the Korean-Chinese space organization of single family housing at the urban area in Liaoning Province are as follows;i)Three types of space organization are central kitchen type, central corridors types, and central living room type. ii)The central kitchen type is mainly in old urban housing, after 1980's, the central corridor type appears in single family housing, and central living room type appears 1990's.iii) It seems that the main reason to change the space organization are fuel, system of heating, influence of Korea housing. Especially, Korean-Chinese like central living room type that is suitable for sit down living style. This central living room type supposes to be used as popular space organization in urban housing.
This study tries to provide fundamental policy information for one-room housing by analyzing current living conditions of one-room housing near a university. For this purpose, this study conducts on-site survey as well as residents' survey. The main findings are follows. First, some one-room houses have been converted from single-family houses. Pilotis are often used as parking lots in newly built one-room houses. There are illegal equipments and illegal parkings around one-room village. Second, residents satisfy with proximity to workplace. However, they show strong dissatisfaction with physical environment such as noise, air flow, waste disposals. In particular, they feel very uncomfortable with gloomy lights and fear about potential crime. Third, residents like their independent lives, but complain about narrow living space and unprotected privacy. In addition, many of them feel lonely due to lack of public space in which residents can communicate.
This study was conducted to examine housing preferences among single-person households and to propose guidelines for housing design choices for single people. One hundred and sixty responses to the questionnaire developed by this researcher were analyzed utilizing frequencies, percentages, and t-tests. There were significant differences between single households and non-single households in various aspects of housing preferences. Differences were found in the desired type and size of housing, needed amount of space, and the importance of space itself. Single persons wanted to live in a small apartment, about 83.45$m^2$ (25.29 pyung) size. They consider the bathroom and the master bedroom more important than the living room and kitchen. They prefer to have specifically function-oriented rooms such as shower, home office, computer room, exercise room, or leisure space. Single persons consider information-technological facilities within an apartment very important. They would like to adopt automatic and electronic technology in the house, such as optical communication network, automatic air-cleaning system, and internet TV. Housing preferences differ significantly according to socio-demographic variables such as gender and age. I propose in this study a small-sized, information-, high-tech- and leisure-oriented design that corresponds with the actual housing preferences of the single-person households.
Transformation of complexity and diverse life style of contemporary men have call for increase in demand of single's and couple's living space of one-room apartment. Feasibility for intensive use of one-room apartment, regardless of it's openness and flexible character, multiple function in a single concentrated room without privacy and lack of confrontation of the changes in diverse living pattern enhance uniformity which reflects as an essential problem. Therefore, this study is to present a direction of one-room apartment interior space planning to differentiate from the existing system of uniformity and it's problems. Within the concept of flexibility, establishment of the flexibility factors for the application of hinged system with a movable furniture to compose a flexible space. In conclusion, the applications of hinged system concept of sliding, folding, over-hangings, are applied in existing one-room apartment plan to enhance flexible space planning which to drive in motivation and adaptation of the dweller's life cycle.
The terms of the one-room dwelling began to attract attention according to increasing of 1-2 person households in the 1990s. The purpose of this study is to analyze the meaning of the terms about one-room dwelling written in the Korean dictionaries and the dictionaries of architecture terms. For this purpose, the first study was divided into three periods. The second study investigated publishing of the Korean dictionaries and the dictionaries of architecture terms and analyzed meaning of the one-room dwelling written in the Korean dictionaries and the dictionaries of architecture terms. The result are summarized as follows. 1) 'Bang' and 'Sil', the smallest residence unit, have sense of the living space. 2) The terms written in dictionaries were five terms. It is Dankanbang, Dankan house, Ilsil house, One-room house, Ilsil dwelling. 3) Dankanbang and Dankan house meant a detached house and only a single room. 4) Ilsil house, One-room and Ilsil dwelling meant a multi-unit dwelling. Dwelling type combined unit space in a single room. 5) One-room and Ilsil dwelling focused on convenience and multipurpose. The result of this study is expected to provide useful information for small sized housing study.

This paper presents the experimental and numerical investigation results of the response of low-temperature steel (LT-FH32 grade steel) beams under repeated impacts at room temperature and a single impact at a sub-zero temperature. After conducting tensile tests at room and sub-zero, repeated impact tests were conducted on two clamped single-beam models at room temperature, and single-impact tests of two other clamped single-beam models were conducted at $-50^{\circ}C$. The single and repeated impact tests were conducted by releasing a knife-edge striker using a drop testing machine. The permanent deflection of the model measured after each impact gradually increased with increasing number of impacts. Under the reduced temperature, the permanent deflection of the models slightly decreased. The numerical analyses were also performed to predict the damage response of the tested single-beam models. A comparison of the numerical prediction with those of experiments showed quite reasonable agreement.
