  • The purpose of this study was to examine what kind of changes adolescents experienced in the process of returning from the school dropout. For this purpose, 'Qualitative Meta-Analysis' was conducted for seven papers of this area, which was published in Korean journals as a method. 'Qualitative Meta-Analysis' is a method of presenting new interpretations by synthesizing qualitative studies on the same topic. In this study, the qualitative research on the process of returning from the school dropout was selected. The final articles selected for the analysis were seven articles published in domestic journals. The results obtained by comparing and analyzing the selected individual papers were as follows. For adolescents, a series of the process of returning from school dropout was 'self-growth through introspection and support.' In this process, there were five stages of change: abandonment, drifting, self-awareness, decisive action, and struggles. Relevant factors that led to this change were self-perception, the awareness of a reality, resources and support. Based on these results, the characteristics of each step were explained and discussed. Finally, the implications and limitations of the study were clarified and the follow-up study was proposed for more detailed examination.

  • In the previous e-government studies, there was no study in which the ambitious problem of assessing the expected performance of an e-government software when it is adopted in other country. This study was motivated to propose a new method to resolve this research question. With using the KIPONet (Korean Intellectual Property Office Net) as a target e-government software, which has been successfully implemented and operated by the Republic of Korea government since Jan 1999 for the purpose of managing the intellectual property rights (IPRs), we propose a Hybrid Qualitative Reasoning (HQR) approach to predicting the expected performance of the KIPONet. The main recipes of the HQR are that the HQR considers causal relationships existing among both qualitative and quantitative variables of the KIPONet, and that uncertainties embedded in some variables are handled by using Monte Carlo mechanism. The application of the proposed HQR to predicting the expected performance of the KIPONet results in statistically significant outcomes with 95% confidence level.

Selected reports were analyzed by Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research (COREQ), a reporting guideline for qualitative research. Results In the 1st domain, descriptions of personal characteristics, interviewer's bias or assumption were insufficient. In the 2nd domain, descriptions such as presence of non-participants, research questions for the interview guidelines, data saturation and transcript return to participants were insufficient. In the 3rd domain, descriptions of items related to number of data coder, participants evaluating the finding, and clarity of minor themes were insufficient. Conclusions Qualitative studies in Korean Medicine have increased. COREQ should be considered by investigators who report qualitative research, in order to improve the quality of research.

  • In theory, mixed methods that incorporate both quantitative and qualitative approaches can maximize strengths of each method while minimize the short comings of each. Mixed methods research is a feature of educational research nowadays, and the number of studies applied mixed methods research has been gradually increasing. This study investigates how mixed methods research was applied in the field of mathematic education, especially focusing on how qualitative and quantitative methods are combined to best address their research questions. With this in mind, this study carefully selects and analyzes 4 research articles that used mixed methods and were published by Journal of Elementary Mathematics Education in Korea in 2015. This study provides detailed result of qualitative analysis on mixed methods research while other a few previous analysis on mixed methods research were tend to focusing on quantitative analysis, producing numeric quantitative information. The result of this study provides practical and in-depth analysis on how to improve validity and possibility of mixed methods research, addressing alternative ways to combine two different research methods and key elements to take into account.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to analyze the trade structure and competitiveness of China's information technology (IT) industry in comparison to that of Korea and the United States, particularly in terms of quality. Design/methodology/approach - Indices such as trade specialization index (TSI), Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), and Market Comparative Advantage (MCA) are used. Further, an Intra-industry Trade (IIT) index is used to analyze qualitative changes in horizontal intra-industry trade and intra-industry trade of high- and low-quality goods. Findings - China's IT industry has a comparative competitive advantage over that of Korea and the United States, and mainly exports goods of inferior quality and imports goods of superior quality. Further, China's horizontal intra-industry trade has been decreasing, while its vertical intra-industry trade has been increasing and vertical trade of inferior quality goods outweighs that of superior quality goods. This shows that China is rapidly catching up with Korea and the United States, even though its qualitative competitiveness has not significantly improved. Research limitations/implication - This study has academic and political implications, as it analyzes changes in China's IT trade competitiveness. However, it is somewhat limited as factors determining qualitative aspects has not been considered. Originality/value - Most studies aggregate analyses of export competitiveness using methodologies such as TSI, RCA, and market share. However, the focus of these methods is price competitiveness. Hence, an examination of the objective and qualitative trade competitiveness of China's IT industry is necessary. this study the trade structure and quantitative competitiveness of the industry by analyzing intra-industry trade focusing on the quality of competitiveness. Therefore, the changes in China's IT industry in the USA and Korea and in foreign trade competitiveness and quality competitiveness are clarified. The results show that the academic and policy implications of these changes in the IT industry will be a useful resource. This is the first study in Korea to attempt such an analysis. This is the first study in Korea to attempt such an analysis.

  • This study aims to provide philosophical frameworks and approaches, and practical guidelines to interview research. While there are some studies which focus on the practical guidelines, there is a lack of studies which address the philosophical and conceptual issues integral to qualitative interview research. By discussing three different but related philosophical aspects of qualitative interviewing--phenomenology, hermeneutics, and dialectics--consistency among research purpose, research method, research methodology is pursued. Based on this discussion, four stages of interviewing--designing, conducting, analyzing, and writing of qualitative interview research--are presented.

  • In knowledge-based economy, a nation's knowledge resources are critical factors for its competitiveness with other nations. This study analyze the quantitative and qualitative share of ISI publication of Korea as the level of knowledge resource by using the SCI database. This paper uses RCI(Relative Citation Impact) index for the qualitative analysis. The result shows that Korea's qualitative share of ISI publication measured by citation is relatively small than the quantitative share meaured by number of papers. In research field, natural sciences and medical sciences are relatively weak than engineering and agriculture.

On this point, this study aims to examine employee's work-related stress and its relationship with work ability. Research design, data and methodology: This study focused on obtaining mostly peer-reviewed works to suggest research findings, assuming that qualitative literature approach allows researchers to explore in-depth information concerning complex issues in a standard life setting. Numerous prior researchers applied their research design in content analysis, especially where various concepts are present for analysis. Results: Based on numerous qualitative textual resources, this study found that human resource practitioners should plan stress management strategies for their employees to apply five kinds of solutions that the current study suggests because it is vital to ensure their wellbeing towards sustaining their performance. Conclusions: All in all, based on the findings, this study concludes that employee's work stress negatively impacts their work ability with affecting their mental health. As a result, there is little doubt that practitioners should regularly monitor the working environment for stress-related factors besides creating a healthy working environment for all employees.
