  • Because of a high degree of unsaturation of perilla seed oil vitamin E deficiency can be produced in chicks by using this particular oil diet. It is therefore convenient to use this oil for elucidating more detailed function (s) of vitamin E. The present study was undertaken to investigate the nutritional and pathological aspects both of high PUFA and of low vitamin E in the diet eventually to elucidate the function(s) of vitamin E. The present study examines the relationships between PUFA, vitamin E and Se in the experimental diets by measuring vitamin E levels both in serum and in liver and activities of SGPT and SGOT and by examining electron micrographs of the chick hepatocytes. Vitamin E concentrations in serum and liver responded to dietary treatments. Serum levels of vitamin E were more affected than those in liver, the values of groups IV(15% fat,- Vit.E) and V(15% fat,-Vit E,-Se) were significantly lower than those of groups I (5% fat) and 111 (15% fat) with P/S ratio of 1. The activities of SGOT and SGPT were found not to be different significantly among different diet groups. Electron microscopic observations of the chick hepatocyte revealed degeneration of mitochondria and appearance of vesicles in the cytoplasm of groups fed diets high in PUFA and deficient in vitamin E alone or deficient in both vitamin E and Se. In the same group pyknotic nuclei and deterioration of the sinusoidal border, showing diminution in microvilli were also observed. More detailed studies concerning biochemical aspects should be carried out by using radioisotopes both in the in vitro and in vivo systems and morphological study should have a focus on the changes in nucleus which seems already suggestive in the present observation.

  • In eukaryotes, eRF3 participates in translation termination and belongs to the superfamily of GTPases. In this work, the dissociation constants for nucleosides bound to Euplotes octocarinatus eRF3 in the presence and absence of eRF1a were determined using fluorescence spectra methods. Furthermore, a GTP hydrolyzing assay of eRF3 was carried out using an HPLC method, and the kinetic parameters for GTP hydrolysis by eRF3 were determined. Consistent with data from humans, the results showed that eRF1a promoted the binding of GTP to eRF3 and the GTP hydrolyzing activity of eRF3. However, in contrast to the lack of GTP binding in the absence of eRF1 in human eRF3, the E. octocarinatus eRF3 was able to bind GTP by itself. The nucleotide binding affinity of the E. octocarinatus eRF3 also differed from the human data. A structure model and amino acid sequence alignment of potential G domains indicated that these differences may be due to valine 317 and glutamate 452 displacing the conserved glycine and lysine involved in GTP binding.

  • This study compared the dose calculated using the electron Monte Carlo (eMC) dose calculation algorithm employing the old version (eMC V13.7) of the Varian Eclipse treatment-planning system (TPS) and its newer version (eMC V16.1). The eMC V16.1 was configured using the same beam data as the eMC V13.7. Beam data measured using the VitalBeam linear accelerator were implemented. A box-shaped water phantom (30×30×30 cm3) was generated in the TPS. Consequently, the TPS with eMC V13.7 and eMC V16.1 calculated the dose to the water phantom delivered by electron beams of various energies with a field size of 10×10 cm2. The calculations were repeated while changing the dose-smoothing levels and normalization method. Subsequently, the percentage depth dose and lateral profile of the dose distributions acquired by eMC V13.7 and eMC V16.1 were analyzed. In addition, the dose-volume histogram (DVH) differences between the two versions for the heterogeneous phantom with bone and lung inserted were compared. The doses calculated using eMC V16.1 were similar to those calculated using eMC V13.7 for the homogenous phantoms. However, a DVH difference was observed in the heterogeneous phantom, particularly in the bone material. The dose distribution calculated using eMC V16.1 was comparable to that of eMC V13.7 in the case of homogenous phantoms. The version changes resulted in a different DVH for the heterogeneous phantoms. However, further investigations to assess the DVH differences in patients and experimental validations for eMC V16.1, particularly for heterogeneous geometry, are required.

  • Pollen morphological studies using light and scanning electron microscopy were conducted to determined the sub-sectional boundary and species relationship of 12 species of subsect. Meleuphorbia and related taxa. Based on the sculpturing patterns of pollen grains and UPGMA tree from numerical analyses using 8 quantitative pollen characters 12 species were divided into two types: type I, having microperforate pollen grains in E. epicyparissias, E. inermis, E. pillansii, E. obesa, E. bubalina, E. meloformis, E. nesemanii, and E. jansenvillensis, and type II, having fossulate sculpturing pattern in E. longituberculosa, E. monteiri, E. caput-medusae and E. grantii. The resulting pollen data suggest that the subsect. Meleuphorbia should not be a natural group, but closely related to the species from subsect. Anthacantha and sect. Treisia and sect. Medusea. Thus, the pollen morphological data recommended to combine above taxa as a single taxonomic group.

  • The purpose of the study is to analyze the factors which cause the deviations of e-piracy. For this, empirical data were collected by conducing a field survey with a total of 531 collegians, and a Structural Equation Model was used for the purpose of analyzing the data acquired by that. A Structural Equation Model was designed and constructed by such factors as Anonymous Environment, Norm-Consciousness, and Recognition on Penalty, which are considered as the direct variables. In addition, the factor of Anonymous Environment was set as a variable for the factors of both Norm-Consciouness and Recoginition on Penalty. These are the results of the analysis; it is found that Anonymous Environment is the direct cause of e-piracy, but the other two factors are not statistically significant. And it is also found that Anonymous Environment gives a direct influence on the other factors of Norm-Consciousness and Recognition on Penalty and it also gives indirect influence on the factor of Recognition on Penalty by means of the factor of Norm-Consciousness. Therefore, in order to prevent e-piracy, it is required to provide the proper opportunity to be trained to observe norms under the environment of anonymity. For this, diverse and effectual teaching methods for information ethic education should be sought.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of left ventricular diastolic function on exercise capacity in hypertensive patients with obesity compared to the obese group. Adults who visited a general hospital in Gyeonggi-do from 2016 to 2019(man: 308, women: 192) were divided into 4 groups according to hypertension and obesity. In the hypertensive obesity group(IV), the A wave and E/E' wave were significantly higher than the normotensive obesity group(II), and the E' wave was significantly lower(respectively p<0.001). The group IV had significantly lower METS(metabolic equivalents) and exercise duration than the group II(respectively p<0.001). In group IV, E/A ratio was positively correlated with METS(p=0.025) and exercise duration(p=0.026). In contrast, E/E' wave in these groups showed a negative correlation with the exercise duration(p=0.046).

  • The e-Marketplace is growing rapidly and providing a more complex relationship between providers and consumers. In recent years, e-Marketplace integration or cooperation issues have become an important issue in e-Business. The e-Catalog is a key factor in e-Business, which means an e-Catalog System needs to contain more large data and requires a more efficient retrieval system. This paper focuses on designing an efficient retrieval system for very large e-Catalogs of large e-Marketplaces. For this reason, a new similarity measure for e-Catalog retrieval based on semantic relationships was proposed. Our achievement is this: first, a new e-Catalog data model based on semantic relationships was designed. Second, the model was extended by considering lexical features (Especially, focus on Korean). Third, the factors affecting similarity with the model was defined. Fourth, from the factors, we finally defined a new similarity measure, realized the system and verified it through experimentation.

  • Purpose - There is a paucity of literature dealing with exporters' compliance issues in e-commerce exports. This study aims to fill this gap in the literature by exploring customs initiatives to facilitate the e-commerce exports of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the changed compliance environment. The central question of this study was divided into five subquestions: first regarding the pros and cons of trade facilitation measures for Korean e-commerce export clearance; second and third questions about risk and compliance management for facilitation fourth about instruments, the changes in Korean SME compliance burden in e-commerce exports, and ways to improve trade facilitation for e-commerce exports. Design/methodology - This study adopts a qualitative approach using a case study method to understand the SME experience in Korean e-commerce export compliance procedures. A qualitative method was selected to answer research questions requiring an in-depth understanding of the regulatory procedures of customs administration and exporters' compliance burden. Because this study addresses the changing compliance environment for which statistical data is insufficient, a quantitative method is considered inappropriate. Based on the approach, data were collected using multiple sources, including an extensive literature review, interviews, and field observations. Thematic pattern matching was applied to interpret the data. Findings - This study examined ways to support SMEs in the changed e-commerce export compliance environment. Facilitation measures for e-commerce exports have contributed to SME access to global markets, simplifying export clearance procedures, and saving exporters' compliance costs. However, such instruments are limited in promoting SME compliance capabilities to cope with intensified competition and strengthened controls over foreign exporters in cross-border e-commerce. Therefore, this study highlights the importance of reshaping facilitation measures for e-commerce exports based on risk and compliance management theories to a system encouraging exporters' voluntary compliance. Originality/value - This study's academic significance derives from verifying the relationship between trade facilitation instruments and risk and compliance management procedures using an actual case in Korea. It is also of practical importance in navigating the directions for improving facilitation measures for e-commerce exports in a changed compliance environment.
