Influence of Extinction Ratio on Optimal Parameters of OPC for Improving BER of WDM Signals (WDM 신호의 BER 개선을 위한 OPC의 최적 파라미터에 대한 소광비의 영향)

  • In this paper, we numerically induced the optimal values of optical phase conjugator (OPC) position and dispersion coefficients of fiber sections, which can improve the bit error rate (BER) and design the adaptive WDM transmission system, as a function of the extinction ratio (ER) of 10 dB and 20 dB in $16{\times}40$ Gb/s WDM transmission system. It is confirmed that these optimal parameter values for effectively compensating overall WDM channels are dependence on the extinction ratio of signals as well as modulation format, transmitted channel numbers, which were investigated in previous researches. It is also confirmed that ER of 20 dB has the advantage of designing flexible WDM systems using optimal parameters than ER of 10 dB.

  • The effect of helical intake port geometry on in-cylinder swirl flow characteristics was studied. Two helical intake ports were selected to change swirl ratio, mean flow coefficient with the variation of valve lifts, valve eccentricity ratios and axial distance. The measurements were made by using an impulse swirl meter. The port B modified to increase the swirl ratio( $R_{s}$) had the tendency of the increased non-dimensional rig swirl ( $N_{r}$) distribution in comparison with that of the port A. And the $N_{r}$ distribution was remarkably improved at low valve lifts. The modification of the geometry to increase the swirl ratio ( $R_{s}$) in helical intake port resulted in the decrease of the mean flow coefficient ( $C_{f(mean)}$) regardless of valve eccentricity ratio ( $N_{y}$). And also non-dimensional rig swirl ( $N_{r}$) in the high valve lift affected the calculation of swirl ratio considerably.onsiderably.

Circular-Polarized Dipole Antenna with Reflector (반사판 부착 원편파 다이폴 안테나)

  • In this paper, circular-polarized dipole antenna with a novel structure is designed, simulated and fabricated for PCS or IMT-2000 base station at an arbitrary test frequency(1.575 GHz). Its radiation pattern is analyzed by means of physical optics(PO). The designed antenna is made up of a horizontal and a vertical dipole elements at a height of λ/4 above an reflector. One of λ/4 length vertical dipole element is located at a height of λ/8 above an reflector. In this case, circularly polarized radiation pattern is obtained by making impedance difference due to adjusting the length of each element. The characteristic of antenna measured from this study is that return loss is 18.4 dB, -10 dB bandwidth is 360 MHz(22.8%), 2 dB axial ratio bandwidth is 30 MHz, -3 dB beamwidth is 76$^{\circ}$, 2 dB axial ratio beamwidth is 58$^{\circ}$, axial ratio is 1.7 dB at 1.575 GHz. Radiation pattern is in well agreement with the result of PO.

Wide Bandwidth Circularly Polarized Aperture Coupled Microstrip Antenna using Cross-slot (십자 슬롯을 이용한 광대역 원형편파 적층 개구결합 마이크로스트립 안테나)

  • A novel single feed wide band CP stacked microstrip antenna using crossed slots has been designed, fabricated and measured. For the single rediating element the designed 10dB return loss bandwidth is 34.5%99.45~13.54 GHz), 3dB axial ratio bandwidth is 18.7%(11.17~13.39GHz), and 6 dB gain bandwidth is 29%(10.21~13.64GHz). For the 2$\times$2 array designed using a sequential rotation method, the 10dB return loss bandwidth is 35.9%(9.69~13.94GHz), 3dB axial ratio bandwidth is 34.6GHz (9.93~14.03GHz), and 6dB gain bandwidth is 27.4%(10.35~13.6GHz). For the fabricated 8$\times$8 array antenna, the 10dB return loss bandwidth is 27.3%(10.17~13.41GHz), 3dB axial ratio bandwidth is 27.9GHz(10.1~13.4GHz), and the radiation pattern is good agreement with theory. This antenna can be used for broadband applications for communications or broadcasting in Ku band.

  • A inductive voltage divider(IVD) is widely used as a ratio arm of precise impedance measurement bridges at low frequencies of audio frequency range and a well fabricated IVD has ratio error of $10^{-7}$ order without any calibration. Recently, the order of $10^{-8}$ of the best measurement uncertainty is needed for calibration and maintenance of impedance standards as national standards. In order to achieve that uncertainty, the IVD which is used for a ratio arm of precise impedance measurement bridge should be calibrated within the uncertain of order of $10^{-8}$ For this purpose, a ratio calibration bridge for IVDs has been developed. The measurement uncertainties of both inphase and quadrature of the bridge are analyzed less then $3{\times}10^{-8}$ respectively at 1 kHz and 25 V.

  • A high motive pressure thermal vapor compressor(TVC) for a commercial multi-effect desalination(MED) plant is designed to have a high entraining performance and its robustness is also considered in the respect of operating stability at the abrupt change of the operating pressures like the motive and suction steam pressure which can be easily fluctuated by the external disturbance. The TVC having a good entraining performance of more than entrainment ratio 6.0 is designed through the iterative CFD analysis for the various primary nozzle diameter, mixing tube diameter and mixing tube length. And then for a couple of TVC having a similar entrainment ratio, the changes of the entrainment ratio are checked along the motive and suction pressure change. The system stability is diagnosed through the analyzing the changing pattern of the entrainment ratio.

Performance Evaluation and Protection Ratio Setting of Satellite DMB System (위성 DMB 시스템 성능 분석 및 보호비 설정)

  • In this paper we analyze the satellite DMB system E using CDM/QPSK transmission system in 2,630~2,655 MHz(25 MHz) bandwidth by computer simulation. Based on this result, we propose the protection ratio analysis and values to guarantee the Performance of the satellite DMB system E from the interference of CATV using the same spectrum. As a result, we confirmed that the protection ratio between DMB and wireless CATV should be guaranteed -16.3 dB in AWGN channel and -11.3 dB in Rician Fading(Channel model A) channel. These research results can be important fundamental material for the commercialization of satellite DMB system.

Analysis of Optimal Mixture Ratio for Extrudate of the Soymilk Residue and Corn Grits by Mixture Design (혼합물 실험 계획법에 의한 두유박과 옥분 압출성형물의 최적 혼합비 분석)

  • Experimental designs were applied to optimize the mixture ratio for the extrudate made by soymilk residue and corn grits. Nine candidate points were examined for their significance on extrudate using the modified distance design. Bending force, expansion ratio, bulk density, water solubility index (WSI), water absorption index (WAI) and color $(L^*,\;a^*,\;b^*)$ were the significant factors improving the extruded cereal production, and these values were applied to the mathematical models. Results showed that bending force, expansion ratio WSI, WAI and color $(L^*,\;b^*)$ increased with increasing the corn grits, whereas bulk density tended to decrease. The statistical study showed that the fitted models were adequate to describe the contour plot and all responses. Optimum mixture ratio allowing to maximize the two responses (expansion ratio and $b^*$) and minimize the response (WAI) were examined with a numerical optimization methods. The numerical optimization method was obtained as 53.18% : 46.19% (corn grits : soymilk residue).

Heat transfer characteristics by an oscillating flow in a tube with a regenerator (재생기가 포함된 원관내 왕복유동에 의한 열전달 특성)

  • Fluid flow and heat transfer have been numerically investigated for an oscillating flow in a tube with a regenerator. The regenerator is placed between hot and cold spaces which are heated and cooled at uniform temperature. An oscillating flow is generated by the piston motion at both ends of a tube. The time dependent, two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations and energy equation are solved by using the finite-volume and moving grid method. The regenerator is adopted as Brinkmann-Forchheimer extended Darcy model. Numerical results are obtained for the flow and temperature fields, and described the effects of the oscillating frequency and amplitude ratio by the piston motion as well as the aspect ratio. The numerical results obtained indicate that the heat transfer between the tube wall and oscillating flow is increased as the oscillating frequency, amplitude ratio and the aspect ratio are increased.

Analysis of the Female 500m Sprint Starting Motion in Short Track Speed Skating (여자 500m 쇼트트랙 스피드 스케이팅의 스타트 기술분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify female 500m sprint start motion by the center of gravity position in short track speed skating. The center of gravity position ratio was divided into three type(type A front : 80%-back : 20%, type B front : 70%-back 30%, type C front: 50%-back : 50%). Three video cameras were used for 3D motion analysis with DLT method and the results were as follows: The elapsed time in starting motion was appeared that type B was the shortest and type A was the longest. It was appear that the stroke length of type A was longer than that type B and C during starting phase. This result was similar to displacement of center of gravity. It was appeared that skill type of center of gravity position ratio type B' ankle and knee joint angle were lower than that of type A and C. Observing these results it was conclusion that skill type B of center of gravity position ratio was more faster than that of type A and C. But it is important that these skill type needed to verifying more subjects.
