  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the current state of foodservice and clinical nutrition management in a hospital-based nutrition department. Nutritional guidelines and survey reports of hospital evaluation programs from 2004 to 2009 were analyzed. In total, 275 hospitals in the first period and 288 hospitals in the second period were evaluated. The division of knife and chopping board use decreased from 97.2% in 2005 to 89.7% in 2008, the maintenance of a proper freezer temperature (below $-18^{\circ}C$) increased from 82.1% in 2004 to 97.7% in 2007 (88.9% to 97.4% from large hospitals and 69.8% to 86.5% from small/medium hospitals in 2005 and 2008, respectively). In tube-feeding management, the performance rate of material cold storage and the offer rate of tube-feeding were 65.9% and 94.2% in 2007, respectively. The cold storage of material, proper use within 24 hours after opening or production, and the use of an appropriate label were 47.3%, 71.2% and 67.2% in 2009, respectively. The rate of a management system for undernourished patients was 86.0% in 2007 (56.4% for large hospitals, 18.9% for small/medium hospitals) and 14.3% in 2009. In standards of nutrition support management, the performance rates of constructing a nutrition support team, the nutrition support team activity, and organizing multidisciplinary team were 66.7%, 43.6%, and 64.1% respectively, in 2004. For large hospitals, those rates were 61.1%, 36.1%, and 58.3%, in 2005, 93.0%, 62.8%, and 91.9% in 2007, and 69.2%, 43.6%, and 69.2% in 2008, respectively. The results of this study suggest standards on sanitary foodservice preparation, production, and tube-feeding production need to correspond with HACCP regulations for small/meidium hospitals in standards of a healthcare accreditation system. It will be necessary to understand the operating conditions of nutrition departments in convalescent hospitals, psychiatric hospitals, and geriatrics hospitals. As the application of accreditation is required from 2013, standards will need to be improved and continuously updated for healthcare accreditation.

  • To investigate the effect of cooking methods on protein quality of domestic fresh monkfish meat (FMM) and imported frozen monkfish meat (IMM), in vitro protein qualities were determined by amino acid anlysis, trypsin indigestible substrate (TIS) formation, and protein digestibility using the four-enzyme method. Crude protein contents of the boiled FMM and IMM were $90\%$ of the dry base, which were higher than fresh FMM $(82\%)$ and IMM $(84\%)$. Profiles of total amino acid in FMM and IMM were not changed by cooking methods. Total free amino acid contents decreased to $ 29.0-33.6\%$ for boiled $(l00^{\circ}C,\;10 min)\;and\;24\%$ for steamed $(100^{\circ}C,\;10\;min)$ samples. In vitro protein digestibilities of boiled and steamed FMM incnased $86.6-86.8\%$, compared to raw IMM $(82.9\%)$, boiled and steamed IMM $85.1-85.5\%$ and raw IMM $(83.6\%)$. TIS of FMM (23.6 mg/g solid) and IMM (15.9 mg/g solid) showed no significant (p<0.05) difference in cooking methods. The C-PERs (computed protein efficiency ratio) of boiled FMM (2.63) and IMM (2.50) were significantly higher (<0.05) than raw (1.97) and steamed FMM(1.97) and IMM(1.94). These results demonstrate that boiling of FMM and IMM improves protein digestibility and C-PER when compared to steamed FMM and IMM. Therefore, boiling could be an excellent means to maintain high-protein quality of monkfish meat. Also, the cooking method may be applicable to the preparation of monkfish stew without any loss of free amino acids.

  • An investigation on the synthesis of aluminum tartrate, one of the aluminum organic compounds, has been performed using aluminum chloride solution as a raw material. For this aim, the effect of the ratio of ethanol/Al solution and pH on the synthesis of aluminum tartrate has been examined and aluminum tartrate synthesized has also been characterized in terms of the chemical composition, X-ray diffraction pattern, particle size distribution, and SEM analysis. As a result, the synthesis more than 97% could be obtained under the conditions of pH more than 3.0 at the ratio of ethanol/Al solution of 3.0. From the chemical analysis of aluminum tartrate synthesized in this work, the content of $NH_4$, Al and C was found to be 9.10, 4.83 and 25.8%, respectively. In addition, aluminum tartrate synthesized from the aluminum chloride solution was found to be $(NH_4)_3Al(C_4H_4O_6)_3$.

  • Background: Tobacco consumption is one of the leading causes of oral submucous fibrosis, oral cancer and even premature death. The present study was designed to compare the biochemical parameters and non-enzymatic antioxidant status and the lipid peroxidation products in pan masala tobacco users as compared with age-matched non-user controls. Methods: Pan masala and tobacco users of age $33.2{\pm}9.94$ years and age-matched controls ($31.2{\pm}4.73$ years) were enrolled for the study. Plasma levels of vitamin E, vitamin C, albumin, bilirubin, uric acid, glucose, urea, creatinine, aspartate amino transferase (AST), alanine amino transferase (ALT) were measured by standard methods. Serum malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were estimated as a measure of lipid peroxidation. Results: In the pan masala tobacco users, as compared to the controls, the level of vitamin C ($68.5{\pm}5.9$ vs $97.9{\pm}9.03{\mu}mol/L$, $p{\leq}0.05$) vitamin E ($18.4{\pm}5.3$ vs $97.9{\pm}9.03{\mu}mol/L$, $p{\leq}0.001$), albumin ($37.5{\pm}7.01$ vs $44.3{\pm}9.99g/L$, $p{\leq}0.001$), and malondialdehyde ($10.8{\pm}1.29$ vs $1.72{\pm}1.15nmol/ml$, $p{\leq}0.001$) were found to be significantly altered. Malondialdehyde was significantly correlated with vitamin E (r=1.00, p<0.001) and vitamin C (r=1.00, p<0.001) in pan masala tobacco users. Serum levels of AST ($31.0{\pm}16.77$ IU) and ALT ($36.7{\pm}31.3$ IU) in the pan masala tobacco users were significantly raised as compared to the controls (AST, $25.2{\pm}9.51$ IU, p=0.038; ALT, $26.2{\pm}17.9$ IU, p=0.038). Conclusion: These findings suggest that pan masala tobacco users are in a state of oxidative stress promoting cellular damage. Non-enzymatic antioxidants are depleted in pan masala tobacco users with subsequent alteration in the biochemical parameters. Supplementation of antioxidants may prevent oxidative damage in pan masala tobacco users.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study is to verify the accuracy of dose delivery according to the patient's breathing cycle in Gated Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy Materials and Methods : TrueBeam STxTM(Varian Medical System, Palo Alto, CA) was used in this experiment. The Computed tomography(CT) images that were acquired with RANDO Phantom(Alderson Research Laboratories Inc. Stamford. CT, USA), using Computerized treatment planning system(Eclipse 10.0, Varian, USA), were used to create VMAT plans using 10MV FFF with 1500 cGy/fx (case 1, 2, 3) and 220 cGy/fx(case 4, 5, 6) of doserate of 1200 MU/min. The regular respiratory period of 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5 sec and the patients respiratory period of 2.2 and 3.5 sec were reproduced with the $QUASAR^{TM}$ Respiratory Motion Phantom(Modus Medical Devices Inc), and it was set up to deliver radiation at the phase mode between the ranges of 30 to 70%. The results were measured at respective respiratory conditions by a 2-Dimensional ion chamber array detector(I'mRT Matrixx, IBA Dosimetry, Germany) and a MultiCube Phantom(IBA Dosimetry, Germany), and the Gamma pass rate(3 mm, 3%) were compared by the IMRT analysis program(OmniPro I'mRT system software Version 1.7b, IBA Dosimetry, Germany) Results : The gamma pass rates of Case 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 were the results of 100.0, 97.6, 98.1, 96.3, 93.0, 94.8% at a regular respiratory period of 1.5 sec and 98.8, 99.5, 97.5, 99.5, 98.3, 99.6% at 2.5 sec, 99.6, 96.6, 97.5, 99.2, 97.8, 99.1% at 3.5 sec and 99.4, 96.3, 97.2, 99.0, 98.0, 99.3% at 4.5 sec, respectively. When a patient's respiration was reproduced, 97.7, 95.4, 96.2, 98.9, 96.2, 98.4% at average respiratory period of 2.2 sec, and 97.3, 97.5, 96.8, 100.0, 99.3, 99.8% at 3.5 sec, respectively. Conclusion : The experiment showed clinically reliable results of a Gamma pass rate of 95% or more when 2.5 sec or more of a regular breathing period and the patient's breathing were reproduced. While it showed the results of 93.0% and 94.8% at a regular breathing period of 1.5 sec of Case 5 and 6, it could be confirmed that the accurate dose delivery could be possible on the most respiratory conditions because based on the results of 100 patients's respiratory period analysis as no one sustained a respiration of 1.5 sec. But, pretreatment dose verification should be precede because we can't exclude the possibility of error occurrence due to extremely short respiratory period, also a training at the simulation and careful monitoring are necessary for a patient to maintain stable breathing. Consequently, more reliable and accurate treatments can be administered.

  • An embedded system is implemented in this work by removing PCMCIA dedicate controller chip from ARM processor based embedded Linux system. In this paper, we propose PCMCIA interface architecture by using Ad hoc methods for wireless network. The proposed system is developed based on S3C2410A processor and it is interfaced with PCMCIA socket by using combinational digital logic circuits. It is interesting to observe that Ad hoc interface provides $97.9%{\sim}102.49%$ performance when compared with dedicate controller systems. The results indicate that the proposed method simplifies the system without loss of performance.

  • The study aimed to develop a cryopreservation method for long-term storage using mature somatic embryo of Japanese larch. In this study, desiccation treatments significantly affected re-induction rates of embryogenic tissue (ET) from dried somatic embryos. In the effect of different dehydration temperature and duration on the re-initiation ET. the highest frequency was shown when somatic embryos were dehydrated at $25^{\circ}C$ for 2 (45.5%) or 1 day (43.3%), respectively. In addition, low temperatures [$4^{\circ}C$, 2 days (44.2%) or 3 days (43.5%)] were marked higher ET initiation. After that, the initiation value was declined with dehydration duration. For comparison of different relative humidity on re-induction frequency of ET, the best re-induction (43.5%) was obtained from somatic embryos pre-dried at $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ (RH 79%). Both $Na_2HPO_4$ (RH 97%) and $Na_2CO_3$ (RH 88%) treatments were showed the similar rate, 34.6, 34.2%, respectively. However the lowest rate (19.6%) was observed in distilled water (RH 100%). In comparison of the various storage temperatures and duration of the dried somatic embryos, the highest frequency (66.9%) of re-initiation was obtained when somatic embryos were cryopreserved for one day. However, the frequency was gradually decreased as the time length of storage increased regardless of types of storage. None of ET re-initiated when stored at $4^{\circ}C$ for 1, 2 and 84 days.

  • Compared with conventional adsorption-based coloration, the photoreactions of dyes such as photo-copolymerization and photo-crosslinking under UV irradiation can be employed for the coloration of textiles, which can be carried out without salt addition at room temperature. C.I. Reactive Black 5, a homo-bifunctional reactive dye containing two sulfatoethylsulfone groups, is used as a photo-reactive dye for wool fibers. Upon UV irradiation, the photo-reactive dye was grafted onto wool fabrics without photoinitiators. Since the disulfide bonds in the cystine residues of wool can be easily photodecomposed to active thiyl radicals which initiate the polymerization, the dye can be polymerized to an oligomeric dye of a degree of polymerization of 12 or more. The grafted fabrics reached a grafting yield of 2.3% o.w.f. and a color yield (K/S) of 18.2 by the photografting of an aqueous dye concentration of 9% using a UV energy of 25J/$cm^2$. Furthermore, the photochemically dyed wool fabric showed higher colorfastness properties to light, laundering and rubbing comparable to conventional reactive dyeing.

  • $Ce_{0.8}Gd_{0.2}O_{1.9}$(GDC20) powder was synthesized by milling of $CeO_2$ slurry and Gd oxalate precipitation. The mixture of $CeO_2$ powder and Gd precipitates calcined at $600^{\circ}C$ for 2 h showed the particle size distribution similar to that of $CeO_2$ powder, which had been milled during the synthesis process. Attrition milling of the calcined powder with an average particle size of $0.36\;{\mu}m$ for 2 h resulted in a decrease in the particle size to $0.24\;{\mu}m$. Although the milled powder consisted of small particles(<$1\;{\mu}m$), a small amount of fine platy $Gd_2O_3$ particles, which had been survived in the milling process, was observed. Sintering of the powder compacts for 4 h showed relative densities of 80.7% at $1300^{\circ}C$ and 97% at $1400^{\circ}C$, respectively. Densification was found to almost complete at $1500^{\circ}C$, resulting in a dense and homogeneous microstructure with a relative density of 99.5%.

  • For gold balsam, the suitable sulfur balsam which is made of lavender oil and sulfur is found to be the distillate with the content of 15~19% sulfur. The sulfur balsam is distillated under 20mmHg vaccum at 84~105$^{\circ}C$. The composition of the compound which is produced by reaction between sulfur balsam and gold chloride is recognized as C10H18SAuCl3. This varys to C10H18SAuCl in water. The reaction constants K from C10H18SAuCl3 to C10H18SAuCl at 30, 40, 5$0^{\circ}C$ are as followsr. K1=7.97~9.28$\times$10-2 K2=2.81~3.79$\times$10-1 K3=4.74~6.74$\times$10-1 The plots of T versus log K are linear, which shows pseudo-first order reaction. The lower temperature is, the more stable C10H18SAuCl3 is. The gold balsam with excess sulfur balsam is increased in stability.
