Background: Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common cancer diagnosed in children and represents approximately 25% of cancer diagnoses among those younger than 15 years of age. Materials and Methods: This study investigated alterations in the displacement loop (d-loop) region of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) as a risk factor and diagnostic biomarker for early detection and diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Using mtDNA from 23 subjects diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the first 450 bp of the d-loop region were amplified and successfully sequenced. Results: This revealed 132 mutations at 25 positions in this region, with a mean of 6 alterations per subject. The d-loop alterations in mtDNA in subjects were all identified as single nucleotide polymorphisms in a homoplasmic distribution pattern. Mutant alleles were observed in all subjects with individual frequency rates of up to 95%. Thirteen mutant alleles in the d-loop region of mtDNA occurred with a high frequency. Novel alleles and locations were also identified in the d-loop of mtDNA as follows: 89 G insertions (40%), 95 G insertions (13%), 182 C/T substitutions (5%), 308 C insertions (19%), and 311 C insertions (80%). The findings of this study need to be replicated to be confirmed. Conclusions: Further investigation of the relationship between mutations in mitochondrial d-loop genes and incidence of acute lymphoblastic leukemia is recommended.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the developed dose verification program for in vivo dosimetry based on transit dose in radiotherapy. Five intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) plans of lung cancer patients were used in the irradiation of a homogeneous solid water phantom and anthropomorphic phantom. Transit dose distribution was measured using electronic portal imaging device (EPID) and used for the calculation of in vivo dose in patient. The average passing rate compared with treatment planning system based on a gamma index with a 3% dose and a 3 mm distance-to-dose agreement tolerance limit was 95% for the in vivo dose with the homogeneous phantom, but was reduced to 81.8% for the in vivo dose with the anthropomorphic phantom. This feasibility study suggested that transit dose-based in vivo dosimetry can provide information about the actual dose delivery to patients in the treatment room.
This paper has analyzed the structure, applicable regulations and the resistance characteristics of insulation ring type of CSST (Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing for Gas). With the flammability test conducted in accordance with KS C IEC 60811-1-1, the evaluation of insulation resistance, temperature characteristics, and reliability has been conducted. An insulation ring type CSST consists of protective coating, tube, nut, insulation ring, packing, socket, and ball valve. Connecting an insulation ring type CSST to gas tubings for gas appliance is not permitted, moreover, the product shall be installed inside a sleeve pipe in case of buried installation such as the ceiling. Damages on protective coating and tube were detected when fire was applied to the test sample with a portable torch for 60 seconds. The insulation resistance of a normal product was $49.59M{\Omega}$, while that of the product completed the flammability test reduced to $9.21M{\Omega}$. The mean insulation resistance within the confidence Interval of 95% using the mini tap program 17 was $49.59M{\Omega}$ and the mean insulation resistance within the confidence interval reduced to $9.21M{\Omega}$. In the normal distribution analysis of 95% confidence interval, the value-P of the normal product was stable at 0.075 and AD(Anderson-Darling) statistic value was turned out to be 0.063, which is very normal, and the standard deviation was analyzed as 0.2586. The value P of the product completed the flammability test resulted in 0.005, the AD was 1.355 and the standard deviation reduced to 0.07908.
$NiAl_2O_4$ nanoparticle was synthesized by a reverse micelle processing for inorganic pigment. $Ni(NO_3)_2{\cdot}6H_2O$ and $Al(NO_3)_3{\cdot}9H_2O$ were used for the precursor in order to synthesize $NiAl_2O_4$ nanoparticles. The aqueous solution, which consisted of a mixing molar ratio of Ni/Al, was 1:2 and heat treated at $800{\sim}1100^{\circ}C$ for 2h. The average size and distribution of synthesized $NiAl_2O_4$ powders are in the range of 10-20 nm and narrow, respectively. The average size of the synthesized $NiAl_2O_4$ powders increased with an increasing water-to-surfactant molar ratio and heating temperature. The crystallinity of synthesized $NiAl_2O_4$ powder increased with an increasing heating temperature. The synthesized $NiAl_2O_4$ powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis(XRD), a field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM), and a color spectrophotometer. The properties of synthesized powders were affected as a function such as a molar ratio and heating temperature. Results indicate that synthesis using a reverse miclle processing is a favorable process to obtain $NiAl_2O_4$ spinels at low temperatures. The procedure performed suggests that this new synthesis route for producing these oxides has the advantage of being fast and simple. Colorimetric coordinates indicate that the pigments obtained exhibit blue colors.

Indoor air quality underground facilities are not equipped for the removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and they are usually treated by diffusion methods such as ventilation. In this study, an adsorption filter was prepared using various coating methods such as carbon nano fiber (CNF) and dip coating. As a result, the adsorption performance was improved by 2 to 20 times or more compared to that of using the metal foam support. This is maybe due to the enhancement of pore distribution which was confirmed by SEM. In addition, the adsorption performance was 13.95 mg/g by adding lignin, and also an average adsorption performance of 13.25 mg/g was maintained after washing indicating that a highly durable adsorption filter material was prepared. It can be suggested that the developed adsorption filter material can be a potential solution that can fundamentally control VOCs, not via the concentration reduction of mechanical ventilation in underground facilities.
Lead, iron, and zinc concentrations in whole blood were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry, using a simple one-step dilution procedure, which were measured in 3 groups, 98 officers unexposed to dust or to metal, 58 coal miners without pneumoconiosis, and 113 coal workers' pneumoconiosis (CWP) patients. The results were as follows : 1. The precisions (C. V.%) of lead, iron, and zinc in blood were $12.65{\pm}6.95%,\;1.47{\pm}1.25%\;and\;6.35{\pm}3.34%$, respectively. 2. Lead and zinc in blood showed the log-normal distribution unlike iron in blood which showed normal distribution. 3. Lead, iron, and zinc concentrations in blood of 3 groups were follows : There was significant difference of concentration for zinc in blood by groups statistically. 4. The difference of lead, iron, and zinc concentrations in blood was not significant (p>0.05) by profusion on chest radiographs.
Background: Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) is involved in amino acid synthesis and DNA function. Two common polymorphisms are reported, C677T and A1298C, that are implicated in a number of human diseases, including cancer. Objective: The association between MTHFR C677T and A1298C genotype and haplotype frequencies in risk for lung cancer (LC) was investigated in the Jordanian population. Materials and Methods: A total of 98 LC cases were studied for MTHFR C677T and A1298C polymorphisms, compared to 89 controls taken from the general population, employing the PCR-RFLP technique. Results: The frequency of the genotypes of MTHFR C677T among Jordanians was: CC, 59.6%, CT, 33%; and TT, 7.4% among LC cases and 49.4%, 40.2% and 10.3% among controls. No significant association was detected between genetic polymorphism at this site and LC. At MTHFR A12987C, the genotype distribution was AA, 29.5%; AC, 45.3%, and CC 25.3% among LC cases and 36.8%, 50.6% and 12.6% among controls. Carriers of the CC genotype were more likely to have LC (OR=2.5; 95%CI: 1.04-6; p=0.039) as compared to AA carriers. Smokers and males with the CC genotype were 9.9 and 6.7 times more likely to have LC, respectively ($OR_{smokers}=9.9$; 95%CI: 1.2-84.5, p=0.018; $OR_{men}=6.6$; 95%CI: 1.7-26.2, p=0.005). Haplotype analysis of MTHFR polymorphism at the two loci showed differential distribution of the CC haplotype (677C-1298C) between cases and controls. The CC haplotype was associated with an increased risk for lung cancer (OR=1.6; 95% CI: 1.03-2.4, p=0.037). Conclusions: The genetic polymorphism of MTHFR at 1298 and the CC haplotype (risk is apparently lower with the C allele at position 677) may modulate the risk for LC development among the Jordanian population. Risk associated with the 1298C allele is increased in smokers and in males. The results indicate that a critical gene involved in folate metabolism plays a modifying role in lung cancer risk, at least in the Jordanian population.
In this paper, we propose a new method for improving the accuracy of localizing a robot to find the position of a robot in indoor environment. The proposed method uses visible light for indoor localization with a reference receiver to estimate optical power of individual LED in order to reduce localization errors which are caused by aging of LED components and different optical power for each individual LED, etc. We evaluate the performance of the proposed method by comparing it with the performance of traditional model. In several simulations, probability density functions and cumulative distribution functions of localization errors are also obtained. Results indicate that the proposed method is able to reduce localization errors from 7.3 cm to 1.6 cm with a precision of 95%.
Although the specific resistance to filtration is the most frequently employed means for characterizing dewaterability of a sludge, it presently is not possible to design nor to prediet performance of dewatering facilities using traditional linearized parabolic filtration equation, that is, the specific resistance model because of theoretical and practical inadequacies of the concept. Limitations of the specific resistance model reflect the need to examine fundamental sludge properties and filtration behaviors affecting dewaterability. From this study, two major limitations of the specific resistance model were noted. First, specific resistance values are very dependent on the sludge concentration because of the variations of particle size distribution and cake clogging to occur when surface area mean diameter is less than $25{\mu}m$ for activated sludge, $18{\mu}m$ for water treatment plant sludge. Second, nonparabolic filtration behavior can result from cake clogging, caused by the migration of fine particles into the cake pores, accelated by skin effect with highly compressible sludges.

The solar energy collection of a passive solar system depends on the finish of collecting surfaces. In this study, the test models of T.W system with different wall surface finishes were constructed, and the temperature distribution through the models was monitored. At the same time, a computer program based on F.D.M was developed in order to simulate various surface finishes. The difference of indoor temperature between the model with white color finish ($\alpha$=0.25) and the one with black color finish ($\alpha$=0.95) was about 1$0^{\circ}C$. For the wall with selective coating, the indoor temperature was 4-5$^{\circ}C$ higher than that of red brick wall, and 3-4$^{\circ}C$ higher than that of wall with black paint.
