  • In this paper, microstrip patch antenna with diagonal slotted type using RFID is designed. This microstrip patch antenna is designed by considering the properties of critical parameter like the size, the truncating dimension, position of feed power and the height of airspace. the designed microstrip patch antenna has the lowest return loss in 915MHz, and in case of the voltage standing wave ratio(VSWR) is less than 1.2 under return loss -16dB, it has bandwidth of about 26MHz. Also, the microstrip patch antenna has the gain of 6dBi on the center frequency of 915MHz band and 2.8dB in the rate of reduction.

  • In this paper, a new high-efficiency CMOS bridge rectifier for driving RFID tag chips is designed and analyzed. The input stage of the proposed rectifier is designed as a cascade structure connected with two NMOSs for reducing the gate capacitance by circuitry method, which is the main path of the leakage current that is increased when the operating frequency is increased. This gate capacitance reduction technique using the cascade input stage for reducing the gate leakage current is presented theoretically. The output characteristics of the proposed rectifier are derived analytically using its high frequency small-signal equivalent circuit. For the general load resistance of $50K{\Omega}$, the proposed rectifier shows better power conversion efficiencies of 28.9% for 915MHz UHF (for ISO 18000 -6) and 15.3% for 2.45GHz microwave (for ISO 18000-4) than those of 26.3% and 26.8% for 915MHz, and 13.2% and 12.6% for 2.45GHz of compared other two existing rectifiers. Therefore, the proposed rectifier may be used as a general purpose rectifier to drive tag chips for various RFID systems.

  • In this paper, active integrated antenna with left hand circular polarization(LHCP) for a transmitter of UHF RFID reader has been described. A novel rectangular ring patch as a radiator of the active antenna is proposed for easier impedance matching, smaller patch size, and LHCP characteristics. An amplification circuit is placed in the opening area of the radiator and is combined with it to work as oscillating circuit around 915 MHz. From the test results, impedance bandwidth of 29 MHz, 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth of 20 MHz, 3 dB beamwidth of 85 degree, and effective radiation power of 8.8 dBm have been obtained.

  • This paper proposes a rectifier using bootstrapping and active body biasing in $0.11{\mu}m$ RF CMOS process. The proposed rectifier employs the full-wave rectifying structure with cross coupling and increases the power conversion efficiency by reducing the threshold voltage and leakage current using bootstrapping and active bias biasing. Also, it has been designed to be applied to a wide range of applications from 13.56 MHz used in wireless power transmission to 915 MHz used in RFID. As a measured result, 80 % of power conversion efficiency is obtained when the input power is 0 dBm at $10k{\Omega}$ load resistance and 13.56 MHz. Also 40 % of power conversion efficiency is shown in 915 MHz.

  • To explore the effects of radiofrequency electromagnetic field on the fate of neuronal cells, we investigated whether exposure to 915 MHz radiofrequency identification (RFID) caused morphological changes in neuronal cells in rat hippocampal dentate gyrus (DG). A reverberation chamber was used as a whole-body RFID exposure system. Rats were assigned to two groups: sham- and RFID-exposed groups. Rats in the RFID-exposed group were exposed to RFID at 4 W/kg specific absorption rate (SAR) for 8 hours daily, 5 days per week, for 2 weeks. Morphological evaluation of DG was performed using immunohistochemistry with doublecortin (DCX) as a neuronal precursor cell marker and neuronal nuclei (NeuN) as a mature neuronal cell marker. No significant morphological changes in DCX+ or NeuN+ cells in the DG of RFID-exposed rats were observed. These results suggest that RFID exposure induces no significant change in DCX+ neuronal precursor or NeuN+ neuronal cells in DG of rats.

  • In this paper, the wide-band monopole antenna with a parasitic element on the ground plane for application in Cellular, GSM and RFID mobile terminals such as the mobile phone or Personal Digital Assistant(PDA) phone is presented. The VSWR of the designed antenna is 2:1 over the frequency range of 820 MHz to 1040 MHz(bandwidth of 23.6 %). Therefore, the designed antenna can provide wide bandwidth covering the Cellular(824 MHz~894 MHz), RFID(908.5 MHz~914 MHz) and GSM(Tx:880 MHz~915 MHz, Rx:925 MHz~960 MHz). The radiation characteristics of the fabricated antenna were also studied. According to the measured radiation patterns, the maximum gains at 859 MHz and 911.25 MHz(center frequencies of the Cellualr and RFID bands) are -0.7 dBi and 0.16 dBi, respectively. The measured maximum gains of GSM bands are -0.48 dBi(897.5 MHz, the center frequency of Tx) and 1.69 dBi(942.5 MHz, the center frequency of Rx).

  • In this paper, a new NMOS gate cross-connected current-mirror type bridge rectifier for UHF RFID applications is presented. The DC converting characteristics of the proposed rectifier are analyzed with the high frequency equivalent circuit and the gate capacitance reduction technique for reducing the gate leakage current due to the increasing of operating frequency is also proposed theoretically by circuitry method. As the results, the proposed rectifier shows nearly same DC output voltages as the existing NMOS gate cross-connected rectifier, but it shows the gate leakage current reduced to less than 1/4 and the power consumption reduced more than 30% at the load resistor, and it shows more stable DC supply voltages for the valiance of load resistance. In addition, the proposed rectifier shows high enough and well-rectified DC voltages for the frequency range of 13.56MHz HF(for ISO 18000-3), 915MHz UHF(for ISO 18000-6), and 2.45 GHz microwave(for ISO 18000-4). Therefore, the proposed rectifier can be used as a general purpose one to drive RFID transponder chips on various RFID systems which use specified frequencies.

  • In this paper, we studied a design method for a coplanar waveguide-fed compact quasi-Yagi antenna for a dual band of the UHF RFID (915 MHz) and GPS (1.575 GHz). The proposed antenna is composed of three elements of a dipole, a reflector, and a director. To reduce its size, the ends of both the dipole and reflector are bent, the director is placed near to the dipole, and a balun is incorporated in the antenna. From some simulations, the proposed antenna using an FR4 substrate with 0.8 mm thickness was designed for the operations in the UHF RFID and GPS systems, and the antenna characteristics such as reflection coefficient, gain, and radiation patterns were examined.

  • A feedforward linear power amplifier (FLPA) has been developed for UHF-band RFID reader applications. The main and error amplifiers are composed of a 2 stage so that linearity of the FLPA can be improved. The FLPA has been implemented on an FR-4 substrate (Er=4.7 and thickness=0.8 mm) with 3-dB and 10-dB hybrid couplers for input/output power divider and combiner. For 2-tone measurement (input level=-11 dBm at $f_1$=915 MHz and $f_2$=916 MHz), the FLPA exhibits a -18.52 dBm of $IMD_3$, which indicates that $IMD_3$ cancellation with feedforward loop is more than 27 dB. From 890 to 960 MHz, 1-dB gain compression output power and power gain of the FLPA are higher than 30 dBm and 40 dB, respectively.
