A Study of Serum Lipid Levels, Blood Sugar, Blood Pressure of Vegetarians and Non-Vegetarians (IV) - Based on age, abnormal serum lipid level, blood pressure, blood sugar - (채식인과 비채식인의 혈중 지질수준, 혈당, 혈압에 관한 연구(IV)-연령대별 비정상자수를 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the relation between vegetarian diet and the risk factors of cardiovascular disease. Results were summarized as follows: Levels of total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, atherogenic index (AI), diastolic blood pressure, blood sugar and HDL-cholesterol were significantly higher (p<0.01) in non-vegetarians than those of vegetarians, but ratio of HDL cholesterol/total-cholesterol was lower in non-vegetarians. The number of subjects with abnormal serum total-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, atherogenic index (AI) and systotic blood pressure were much more in non-vegetarians than those in vegetarians, it were confirmed clearly as the increment of ages. In the multiple regression analysis, we acknowledged that the main factors affecting on total-cholesterol in vegetarians were age, BMI and the systolic blood pressure (R-square: 0.21), while important factors were age, BMI, the systolic blood pressure and physical activity (R-square: 0.81) in the non-vegetarians. In the vegetarians, age and BMI were the main factors having influence on LDL-cholesterol (R-square: 0.18), while age, BMI, systolic blood pressure and the physical activity (R-square: 0.82) were main factors in the non-vegetarian. In conclusion, vegetable diet may improve blood lipid level, blood pressure, blood sugar.

Four-Wheel Tractor Utilization in Korea(II) -Repair and Maintenance- (농용(農用) 트랙터 이용(利用)에 관(關)한 조사연구(調査硏究)(II) -고장(故障) 및 수리실태분석(修理實態分析)-)

  • This survey was conducted to investigate the status of repair and maintenance of 4 wheel tractor for a basic reference to the improvement of quality and proper utilization of tractors. Thirty two counties from eight provinces, except Jeju, were covered in this study in order to investigate annual break-down and repair of tractor in 1980. The analyzed results are summarized as follows; 1. The average number of break-down of large size tractors(47ps) was 5.0 times in a year and it was about twice of that of small size tractors(19-23ps). The break-down frequency per 100 hours of use was 1.11 times in the large size and 0.65 times in the small size tractors. 2. 75.6 percent of total break-down was occured in main body of tractor and 24.4 percent in attachments. In particular, the break-down of plow and rotavator was more than 80 percent of total break-down of the small size tractor attachments. 3. The large size tractors which were occured more than one times of break-down a year was 75 percent and its rate of the small size tractor was 62 percent. But 9 percent of tractor surveyed had more than ten times of break-down in a year 4. The frequency of break-down had a peak in May, and it was directly proportional to the hours of use. 5. The causes of break-down were poor maintenance and operation by 29.8 precent, old parts by 30.2 percent, poor quality of parts by 20.6 percent, poor field condition by 16.3 percent and others by 3.1 percent. 6. Annual number of repair was 5.5 times and among them 55.6 percent was done by shop and 44.4 percent by operator. 7. Total required repair time was 30.6 hours a year in the large size tractor and 19.9 hours in the small size tractor. Average repair time was 3.62 hours a time. 8. Annual repair cost was 278 thousand won in the large size tractor and 70 thousand won in the small size tractor. The repair cost per hour of use was 621 won in the large size and 198 won in the small size tractor. 9. The repair cost rate of tractor(Y) was regulated with tractor age (X) as follow; Y=0.752X In case of the service life of tractor was 10 years, the total repair cost rate was 64 percent.

Dinosaur Track-Bearing Deposits at Petroglyphs of Bangudae Terrace in Daegokcheon Stream, Ulju (National Treasure No. 285): Occurrences, Paleoenvironments, and Significance in Natural history (국보 제285호 울주 대곡리 반구대 암각화 지역의 공룡발자국 화석층 : 산상, 고환경 및 자연사적 가치)

  • The Dinosaur track-bearing deposits recently found at Bangudae Petroglyph site in Ulju (National Treasure No. 285) have been studied in the aspects of sedimentology, paleoenvironments, and significance in natural history. The dinosaur tracks occur in the Daegu Formation (late Early Cretaceous), and over 80 footprints including 43 ornithopod footprints, 36 sauropod footprints, and 2 theropod footprints are preserved in this tracksite. The track-bearing deposits consist of irregularly interlaminated siltstone and mudstone, calcareous sandy to silty mudstone, thin-bedded tuffaceous sandstone, planar- to cross-laminated sandstone, and thin- to medium-bedded graded sandstone, and they are interpreted to be sheetflood deposits on an alluvial plain. Diverse types of ripples and mudcracks, rainprints, and invertebrate trace fossils are observed in these deposits, and the crest-lines of wave ripples do not show preferred orientation. Dinosaur footprints occur as true prints, underprints, overtracks, and casts on the bedding surfaces, and the orientation of trackways are scattered. It is interpreted that paleoclimatic condition of the track-bearing deposits were semiarid with alternation of wetting and drying periods, and that dinosaurs frequented small and shallow ponds during wetting periods and recorded their tracks on an alluvial plain. The frequent occurrence of dinosaur tracks in study area indicates that the Cretaceous deposits around Daegokcheon Stream are very useful sedimentological and paleontological records to understand the paleoecology and paleoenvironments during the dinosaur age in Korean Peninsula. Consequently the dinosaur track-bearing deposits around Daegokcheon Stream should be further studied in sedimentary geology and paleontology in order to enhance cultural heritage value of the Petroglyphs of Bangudae Terrace as the World Heritage.

Image quality and usefulness evaluaton of 3D-CBCT and Gated-CBCT according to baseline changes for SBRT of Lung Cancer (폐암 환자의 정위체부방사선치료 시 기준선 변화에 따른 3D-CBCT(Cone Beam Computed-Tomography)와 Gated-CBCT의 영상 품질 및 유용성 평가)

  • Purpose: This study compares and analyzes the image quality of 3D-CBCT(Cone Beam Computed-Tomography) and Gated CBCT according to baseline changes during SBRT(Stereotactic Body RadioTherapy) in lung cancer patients to find a useful CBCT method for correcting movement due to breathing Materials and methods : Insert a solid tumor material with a diameter of 3 cm into the QUASARTM phantom. 4-Dimentional Computed-Tomography(4DCT) images were taken with a speed of the phantom at period 3 sec and a maximum amplitude of 20 mm. Using the contouring menu of the computerized treatment planning system EclipseTM Gross Tumor Volume was outlined on solid tumor material. Set-up the same as when acquiring a 4DCT image using Truebeam STxTM, breathing patterns with baseline changes of 1 mm, 3 mm, and 5 mm were input into the phantom to obtain 3D-CBCT (Spotlight, Full) and Gated-CBCT (Spotlight, Full) images five times repeatedly. The acquired images were compared with the Signal-to-Noise Ratio(SNR), Contrast-to-Noise Ratio(CNR), Tumor Volume Length, and Motion Blurring Ratio(MBR) based on the 4DCT image. Results: The average Signal-to-Noise Ratio, Contrast-to-Noise Ratio, Tumor Volume Length and Motion Blurring Ratio of Spotlight Gated CBCT images were 13.30±0.10%, 7.78±0.16%, 3.55±0.17%, 1.18±0.06%. As a result, Spotlight Gated-CBCT images according to baseline change showed better values than Spotligtht 3D-CBCT images. Also, the average Signal-to-Noise Ratio, Contrast-to-Noise Ratio, Tumor Volume Length and Motion Blurring Ratio of Full Gated CBCT images were 12.80±0.11%, 7.60±0.11%, 3.54±0.16%, 1.18±0.05%. As a result Full GatedCBCT images according to baseline change showed better values than Full 3D-CBCT images. Conclusion : Compared to 3D-CBCT images, Gated-CBCT images had better image quality according to the baseline change, and the effect of Motion Blurring Artifacts caused by breathing was small. Therefore, it is considered useful to image guided using Gated-CBCT when a baseline change occurs due to difficulty in regular breathing during SBRT that exposes high doses in a short period of time

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of secondary task such as sending text message (STM) and searching navigation (SN) using the variable indicating control of vehicle ((Medial-Lateral Coefficient of Variation, MLCV), (Anterior-Posterior Coefficient of Variation, APCV)) and motion signal (Jerk-Cost function, JC). Participants included 50s taxi drivers; 14 males and 14 females. Participants were instructed to keep a certain distance (30m) from the car ahead with constant speed (80km/hr or 100km/hr). Experiement consisted of driving alone for 1minute and driving with secondary task for 1minute. Both MLCV and APCV were significantly increased during Driving + Sending Text Message(STM) and Driving + Searching Navigation(SN) than Driving only. Also, JC was increased during Driving + STM and Driving + SN than Driving only. In this study, we found that even in the experts group who are taxi driver and have 25 years driving experience, the smoothness of motion is decreased and the control of vehicle is disturbed when they were performing secondary tasks like sending text message or searching navigation.

A Seroepidemiologic Study on Hepatitis A in Phohang, Korea (포항 지역 소아 및 성인의 A형 간염의 혈청학적 역학조사)

  • Purpose : Since hepatitis A virus almost is transmitted by fecal-to-oral route, individual and public sanitation affects the prevalence and ages of hepatitis A infection. We researched the positivity rate of hepatitis A antibody at Pohang to make the basic data for subclinical infection and vaccination schedule. Methods : From January 2004 to February 2005, a total of 603 patients who were admitted at Hangdong University Sunlin Hospital, Dongguk University Hospital, and Christianity Hospital without any hepatic disease and vaccination of hepatitis A were enrolled. IgG antibody to hepatitis A virus were measured by electrochemiluminescence immunoassay(ECLIA). Results : Among 603 patients, 523 patients were less than 15 year of age and 80 patients were in above 15 years. The prevalence rate was 19.3%(101/523) in pediatric group and 70.0%(56/80) in above 15 years. In detail, the prevalence rate was 73.2%(52/71) in 0~5 months, 14.9%(11/74) in 6~11 month, 8.9%(7/79) in 12~17 month, 7.3%(6/82) in 18~23 month, 5.5%(4/72) in 2~3 years, 12.1%(9/74) in 4~8 years, 16.9%(12/71) in 9~14 years, 52.5%(19/40) in 15~29 years, and 92.5%(37/40) in group aged over 30 years. The prevalence rates in male and female showed no significant differences. Conclusion : The prevalence rate of hepatitis A in the group of 4~8 years and 9~14 years at Pohang was lower comparing with previous reports of other cities in Korea. We can postulate that the sanitation of children living at Pohang is at least not bad than other cities. And for the prevalence rate of hepatitis A is increased after 3 years, we should recommend that the vaccination of hepatitis A may be finished until 3 years.

Effect of the base saturation rate of acidic upland soils on the yield of soybean (산성(酸性) 신개간전(新開墾田) 토양(土壤)의 염기포화도(鹽基飽和度)와 대두수량(大豆收量))

  • A pot experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of phosphate application and the adjustment of base saturation rate of soils on the growth of soybean. The soils used were very low in available phosphate (10-20ppm) and low in base saturation rates (less than 40%). Treatment included 2 levels of $P_2O_5$ $(40-80ppm){\times}3$ levels of base saturation rates (check, 60.80%) In adjusting the base saturation rate, the ratio between Ca and Mg was maintained at 65:15. Results are summarised as folloing. (1) The levels of phosphate in the experiment did not bring forth significant difference in the yield of soybean. Both 40 and 80ppm of $P_2O_5$ were seemed to be not enough to bring up the remarkable phosphate effect. (2) The increase in base saturation rate of the soils up to 60% proved to be significant in increasing the yield of soybean. Above that level, however, did not affect the yield. (3) The major factor for the increase of yield, in base saturation rate adjustments was the increased Mg-saturation rates. In the range of 10-15% of Mg-saturation rate of soils, there was a linear positive relationship between the yield of soybean and Mg-saturation rate of soils, while the optimum levels of Ca-saturation rates of soil were found to be 35-55%. (4) It was pointed that there is some possibility of relative in-sufficiency of Mg in Korean cultivated soils and that the continued application of liming materials which do not contain proper amounts of Mg may aggravate these situation.

Comparison of Exposure Dose by Using AEC Mode of Abdomen AP Study in Radiography (복부 전후 방향 검사의 자동노출제어 사용 시 선량 비교 연구)

  • We evaluated the effectiveness of TL (Time Limit) method by comparing with NTL (Non-time limit) method when it is used for examinations for abdomen Anterior Posterior (AP) in this paper. The evaluation was conducted based on the comparison of dose, and of signal to noise ratio (SNR) and contrast to ratio (CNR) on both methods. The experiments were conducted with XGEO GC 80 (Samsung, Korea), Unfors ThinX RAD (Unfors, Sweden) and Rando Phantom (Alderson research laboratories, USA) and shielding material with the size of $5.5{\times}9{\times}0.1cm^3$. It was set to activate only two upper ionization chambers in automatic exposure control(AEC) mode and the tube-voltage was set to 80kVp. When the exposure time was limited, it is limited to 51 msec. The images both by NTL AEC method and TL AEC method were acquired when with and without attachment of shielding material on the upper ionization chambers. The images were evaluated by SNR and CNR which are the image evaluation methods using 'Image J'. The NTL AEC method showed increases in dose as much as 130.7% at maximum and 80% at minimum than other methods. The TL AEC method showed decreases in mAs and exposure dose than the NTL AEC method as much as 43.8% and 44.4% respectively. There were no significant differences in SNR or CNR for the experiments (($p{\geq}0.05$). Therefore, it is suggested that the TLAEC mode is more effective when examining patients who have high BMI index or a patient with a metallic substance in the body after surgery.

Effects of Different Performance Sequences of Aerobic and Resistance Exercises for 10 Weeks on Body Composition, Physical Function and Hormones in Males aged 20s (10주간 유산소와 저항성 운동의 다른 수행 순서에 따른 20대 남성의 신체조성, 신체기능과 호르몬에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examined the effects of different performance sequences of aerobic and strength exercises for 10 weeks on the body composition, physical function, and hormones in males aged in their 20s. A total of 30 subjects (N=30) were assigned randomly to either aerobic and resistance exercise (n=10, A+R), resistance and aerobic exercise (n=10, R+A), or a control group (n=10, CON). The different order of aerobic (HRmax 50-80%, 30 min) and resistance (50-80% 1RM, 30 min) exercises for 10 weeks was consisted of 3 times per week and 80 minutes per session. The body composition, physical function, and hormones were measured before and after the training period. The lean body mass (p=.015) was increased and the fat mass (p=.042) and % body fat (p=.007) in the A+R were decreased. The skeletal muscle mass (p=.001) in the R+A was increased and % body fat was decreased (p=.003). The weight (p=.03) and % body fat (p=.039) in the CON were increased. The aerobic capacity (p=.011) and muscular endurance (p=.001) in the A+R group were improved. The muscular endurance (p=.0016) in the R+A was improved. The epinephrine (p=.048), norepinephrine (p=.013), and cortisol (p=.045) levels in the A+R group were increased. The epinephrine (p=.046) level in the R+A group was increased. The insulin (p=.007) level increased in the CON group. In conclusion, both A+R and R+A groups produced superior results to the CON group but the A+R group was slightly more efficient than the R+A group.

Development of a Three-Dimensional, Semi-Implicit Hydrodynamic Model with Wetting-and-Drying Scheme (조간대 처리기법을 포함한 3차원 Semi-Implicit 수역학모델 개발)

  • Princeton Ocean Model (POM) is modified to construct a three-dimensional, semi-implicit hydro¬dynamic model with a wetting-and-drying scheme. The model employs semi-implicit treatment of the barotropic pressure gradient terms and the vertical mixing terms in the momentum equations, and the velocity divergence term in the vertically-integrated continuity equation. Such treatment removes the external mode and thus the mode splitting scheme in POM, allowing the semi-implicit model to use a larger time step. Applied to hypothetical systems, both the semi-implicit model and POM give nearly the same results. The semi-implicit model, however, runs approximately 4.4 times faster than POM showing its improved computational efficiency. Applied to a hypothetical system with intertidal flats, POM employing the mode splitting scheme produces noises at the intertidal flats, that propagate into the main channel resulting in unstable current velocities. Despite its larger time step, the semi-implicit model gives stable current velocities both at the intertidal flats and main channel. The semi-implicit model when applied to Kyeonggi Bay gives a good reproduction of the observed tides and tidal currents throughout the modeling domain, demonstrating its prototype applicability.
