Hydrogen Production by Steam Reforming of Aqueous Bio-Oil from Marine Algae (수소생산을 위한 해조류 유래 수용액 상 바이오오일의 수증기 개질 반응)

  • Hydrogen production via steam reforming of bio-oil from algal biomass over fast pyrolysis with commercial catalysts was carried out. Aqueous bio-oil obtained by phase separation from a crude oil over fast pyrolysis was used as a reactant and comparison studies for activity over different catalysts (FCR-4-02, POS-7, Cat. A, RUA), reaction temperature, and steam/carbon (S/C) ratios were performed. Experimental results showed that different catalytic activities were observed with different S/C ratios and catalyst composition and the highest hydrogen yield of 70% was obtained with a POS-7 catalyst at a S/C ratio of 10 and 1073 K.

Fast Microchip Electrophoresis Using Field Strength Gradients for Single Nucleotide Polymorphism Identification of Cattle Breeds

  • A microchip electrophoresis (ME) method was developed using a programmed field strength gradients (PFSG) for the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) based fast identification of cattle breeds. Four different Korean cattle (Hanwoo) and Holstein SNP markers amplified by allele-specific polymerase chain reaction were separated in a glass microchip filled with 0.5% poly(ethyleneoxide) ($M_r$ = 8 000 000) by PFSG as follows: 750 V/cm for 0 - 14 s, 166.7 V/cm for 14 - 31 s, 83.3 V/cm for 31 - 46 s, and 750 V/cm for 46 - 100 s. The cattle breeds were clearly distinguished within 45 s. The ME-PFSG method was 7 times and 5 times faster than the constant electric field ME method and the capillary electrophoresis- PFSG method, respectively, with a high resolving power ($R_s$ = 5.05 - 9.98). The proposed methodology could be a powerful tool for the fast and simultaneous determination of SNP markers for various cattle breeds with high accuracy.

  • In testing visual acuity of kindergarten's children, single Landolt's ring in chart projector was used under proper intensity of illumination. According to the result of 218 eyes' test, 0.6 V.A. forms 8.5 % at the age of 3, 0.7 V.A. forms 84.7 % at the age of 4, and 1.0 V.A. forms 6.8 % at the age of 5. However, children's visual acuity has been gradually developed with their growth. None of emmetropia can be found through the test. All of the children have ametropic eyes.

An Analysis of Online Catalogs' Interface of Children's Libraries (어린이도서관 온라인목록의 인터페이스 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze and evaluate the characteristics of online catalogs' interface of children's libraries, and to propose how to design user-friendly interfaces. The online catalogs of 77 children's libraries which are registered on the National Library Statistics System as of December 2011 were analyzed. They are categorized into 7 types based on interface's characteristics. Such topics as the features of search methods, the record display formats, the terminology usage, and the special features of the 7 types were examined and discussed. Some shortcomings were examined and how to improve them was suggested.

  • Cigarette beetle(Lacioderma serricornine F.) is a serious pest of cured tobacco leaves. Of its pheromonal components, serricornin shows the strongest sexual stimulation. Other substances contribute as the supplementary factors cooperating with this component in the copulation of cigarette beetle. From spectroscopic evidence and synthetic studies, the structure of natural serricornin has been determined to be (4S,4S,7S)-4, 6-dimethyl-7-hydroxynonan-3-one. It has been suggested that the pheromonal components isolated from this beetle may be derived from polyketide biosynthesis. Two nonasymmetric syntheses of serricornin will be reviewed in detail.

  • 0.15(B $a_{0.95}$ S $r_{0.05}$)O-0.15S $m_{2}$ $O_{3}$-0.7Ti $O_{2}$ ceramics were fabricated by the mixed-oxide method. Microwave dielectric properties were investigated with sintering conditions. Increasing the sintering temperature from 1300 to 1375[.deg. C], the sintered density was increased from 5.44 to 5.63[g/c $m^{3$]. Increasing the sintering temperature, dielectric constant and quality factor were increased and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency was independent of sintering temperature. In the specimen sintered at 1375[.deg. C], dielectric constant, quality factor and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency were 80.79, 2784(at 3[GHz]), +11.07[ppm/.deg. C], respectively..

Characteristics of the Soybean Protein and its Utilization (대두 단백질의 특성과 그 이용)

  • Soybean composition, which is different from those of other beans and grains, gives from 35 to 40 percent protein, 15 to 20 percent oil, and 20 to 25 percent sugar. Soybean has been extensively used as the raw material for traditional foods such as bean curd, soy sauce, soy paste and so on, since ancient times in Korea. Ultracentrifugal components of the soybean proteins represent four major peaks with sedimentation constants of about 2, 7, 11 and 15S. The two major reserve protein of soybean, 7S and 11S globulins, have been isolated and characterized by many works. The curd made with microbial enzyme exhibited minuter structure than those of the metal ion-and acid-treatment. Thus, the curd obtained by enzymatic operation serves as a material for further development of food items, and the procedure may by widely applicable in food processing.

전통한우(칡소)의 귀세포를 이용한 핵이식에서 전기융합 조건이 핵이식 수정란의 발달에 미치는 영향

  • 전기자극은 핵이식 시 수핵난자와 공여핵의 융합을 위해 보편적으로 사용되는 방법이다(Robl, 1999). 그러나 부적절한 전기자극은 수핵난자 세포질에 해를 입히고, 이후의 배발달에 좋지 않은 영향을 준다. 본 실험은 체세포 핵이식을 \circled1 1.9㎸/cm, 20$\mu\textrm{s}$ 2회, \circled22.0㎸/cm, 20$\mu\textrm{s}$ 2회, \circled32.2㎸/cm, 10$\mu\textrm{s}$ 2회, 및 \circled41.9㎸/cm, 30$\mu\textrm{s}$ 2회의 전기자극으로 융합을 실시하여 각 자극 별 융합율과 난자의 lysis율을 비교하고, 배양 후 배반포 발생율을 조사하였다. 공여핵은 칡소의 귀 세포를 10% FBS가 첨가된 DMEM에서 39$^{\circ}C$, 5%$CO_2$의 incubator에서 배양하여 monolayer confluent형성 후 0.5% FBS가 첨가된 DMEM에서 3-4일간 배양 후 trypsin처리하여 제핵된 체외성숙 난자에 핵이식하였다. \circled1,\circled2,\circled3,\circled4의 핵이식 조건을 이용하여 공여핵의 체세포와 수핵란 세포질간의 융합을 유도한 결과, 융합율은 각각 50.7%, 48.1%, 65.5%, 및 33.3%였으며, 수핵난자의 세포질 lysis율은 39.%1, 41.7%, 22.6%,및 52.7%으로 \circled32.2㎸/cm, 10$\mu\textrm{s}$ 2회의 조건에서 융합율이 유의적으로 높았고, 수핵난자의 세포질 lysis율에 있어서도 다른 군에 비하여 낮았다 각각의 핵이식 조건별로 융합한 후 난할율 및 배반포 발생율은 각각 65.7%, 73.5%, 77.2%, 및 53.3%과 47.8%, 52.0%, 49.7%, 및 21.8%로 나타나 난할율 및 배반포 발생율에 있어서 융합조건에 따라 큰 차이는 없었으나 1.9㎸/cm, 30$\mu\textrm{s}$ 2회의 조건이 다른 조건들에 비하여 유의적으로 낮았다. 따라서, 체세포와 수핵란 세포질간의 융합율과 배반포 발생에 미치는 영향은 전압보다는 시간에 더 크게 받음을 알 수 있었으며, 이와 같은 결과에서 융합시 시간을 오래 주는 것보다 전압을 높이는 것이 수핵난자의 세포질에 상해를 줄이고 이후 배반포 발생에 유리할 것으로 사료되었다.

Survey on the contamination of microorganisms in pork from slaughterhouse in Incheon area (인천지역 도축장에서 생산된 돼지고기의 미생물 오염도 조사)

  • For measuring general bacterial count and Escherichia coli count, the standard plate count was used to conduct a test on 113 cases of pork carcass surfaces from slaughterhouses in Incheon area from January to February 2003. And Salmonella spp, Staphylococcus aureus and Listeria monocytogenes was used to conduct a test on 68 cases of pork carcass surfaces and 76 cases of feces, that is to say, a total of 144 cases. The results were obtained as follows: In the case of general bacterial count, 29 cases(25.7%) were in the range of 100∼999 and 62 cases(54.9%) were in the range of 1,000∼9,999 and 22 cases(19.4%) were in the range of 10,000∼99,999. Meanwhile as regards E coli count, 22 cases(19.4%) were in the range of 1∼9 and 69 cases(61.2%) were in the range of 10∼99 and 22 cases(19.4%) were in the range of 100∼999. On 68 cases of pork carcass surfaces, 7 strains(10.2%) of Salmonella spp, and 12 strains(17.6%) of S aureus were detected and 27 strains(39.7%) of L monocytogenes, respectively. As for the detected Salmonella spp, 6 strains of the B group, 3 strains of S enterica subsp salame and 2 strains of S typhimurium were detected, respectively. On 76 cases of feces, 14 strains(18.4%) of Salmonella spp, and 15 strains(19.7%) of L monocytogenes and 14 strains(18.4%) of S aureus were detected respectively. As for the detected Salmonella spp, 6 strains of the B group, 4 strains of S derby and 8 strains of the C group, 5 strains of S rissen were detected, respectively. All of 42 strains of L monocytogenes were type 1. As a result of conducting a toxin test on the detected S aureus, all of 26 strains were found to be non-toxin.

On the Ichthyofauna of Paikchon streams, Puan, Cholla-bukdo, Korea (국립공원(國立公園) 변산반도(邊山半島) 백천(白川)의 어류상(魚類相)에 관(關)하여)

  • The Ichthyofauna was investigated at the seven sites in Paikchon streams from August 1990 to March 1991. The collected fishes were classified to 22 species belong to 19 genera and 11 families, of which 5 species were tentatively identified as endemic species in Korea. Three species, Odontobutis obscurus interrupta, Luciogobius guttatus and Mactopodus chinensis, are collected for the first time in this area. Dominant species were Squalidus gracilis majimae(40.8%), Zacco temmincki(24.2%), Z. platypus(13.3%) and Cobitis koreensis pumilus(7.7%). Stomach contents of S. gracilis majimae were mainly taxa belong to Bacillariophyceae of micro-algee attached to sand or gravel.
