We design and implement the DSP module for automotive radar using FMCW. The designed parameters are based on 77GHz FMCW radar, and show the resolution of 0.4m and 0.67km/h in distance and velocity, respectively. For detecting multiple targets, we discuss the relationship between fb's and targets. In addition, we show that the detection of multiple targets is very simple when the range of $f_r$ is sufficiently larger than that of $f_b$. In the front of ADC, the 2nd order differentiator is applied for reducing the effects of path-loss so that the ADC bits are reduced to 8 bits. The designed block is simulated in Matlab and implemented with DSP and micro-processor.

ITS(Intelligent Transport System) has been researched actively to guarantee the smooth traffic and the safety of the vehicle. In recent, as the sensor for the measurement of distance between vehicles, the FMCW radar system in millimeter wave band has been interested in ITS. Actually, 47, 60, 77, 94 and 139 GHz have been assigned for the vehicle radar frequencies in Europe and Japan. However, the performances of the FMCW radar are deteriorated due to the interferences from the surrounding radars and mobile devices. In this paper, in order to model and simulate the performance of FMCW radar under the exterior interference, we propose a new performance parameter, RER(Radius Error Rate), which contains the information of the range error due to the interferences, and show the effectiveness of the proposed parameter.

FMCW(Frequency Modulation Continuous Wave) Radar can detect the distance and the velocity of forward obstacles using linearly modulated FM signal. For better performance, the RF of radar should be operated with wideband frequency linearity on 300 MHz bandwidth at 77 GHz carrier frequency. In this paper, we propose a simple method for improving frequency linearity of FMCW radar implemented with VCO. The proposed method shows that the Voltage-Frequency relation of VCO could be measured by using the modified Tx waveform of FMCW radar. Then the measured nonlinearity could be compensated using LUT(Look-up Table) with easy. It is noted that the proposed can be adopted in existing system without extra circuit.

This paper presents a 24-GHz frequency-modulated continuous wave(FMCW) radar transceiver with two Rx and one Tx channels in 65-nm complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor(CMOS) process and implemented it on a radar system using the developed transceiver chip. The transceiver chip includes a $14{\times}$ frequency multiplier, low-noise amplifier, down-conversion mixer, and power amplifier(PA). The transmitter achieves >10 dBm output power from 23.8 to 24.36 GHz and the phase noise is -97.3 GHz/Hz at a 1-MHz offset. The receiver achieves 25.2 dB conversion gain and output $P_{1dB}$ of -31.7 dBm. The transceiver consumes 295 mW of power and occupies an area of $1.63{\times}1.6mm^2$. The radar system is fabricated on a low-loss Duroid printed circuit board(PCB) stacked on the low-cost FR4 PCBs. The chip and antenna are placed on the Duroid PCB with interconnects and bias, gain blocks and FMCW signal-generating circuitry are mounted on the FR4 PCB. The transmit antenna is a $4{\times}4$ patch array with 14.76 dBi gain and receiving antennas are two $4{\times}2$ patch antennas with a gain of 11.77 dBi. The operation of the radar is evaluated and confirmed by detecting the range and azimuthal angle of the corner reflectors.

The most important requirement for the automotive radars is the simultaneous target range and velocity measurement under environment of multi-target, clutters, multi-path, and so on. If the many vehicles with 77GHz FMCW(Frequency Modulation Continuous Wave) radar system are in the near area we should consider the interference signals occurred by other radar systems because these signals reduce exact detection of range and velocity. In this paper, we propose the interference cancellation method, which each vehicle radar transmits chirp trains with the different frequency sweep shapes. The proposed method is applied into the various applications such as an intelligent vehicle, Robot, and UGV(Unmanned Ground Vehicle).
For an adaptive cruise control (ACC) stop-and-go system in automotive applications, three radar sensors are needed because two 24 GHz short range radars are used for object detection in an adjacent lane, and one 77 GHz long-range radar is used for object detection in the center lane. In this letter, we propose a single sensor-based 24 GHz radar with a detection capability of up to 150 m and ${\pm}30^{\circ}$ for an ACC stop-and-go system. The developed radar is highly integrated with a high gain patch antenna, four channel receivers with GaAs RF ICs, and back-end processing board with subspace based digital beam forming algorithm.

This paper proposes a low complexity frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) surveillance radar algorithm. In the conventional surveillance radar systems, the two dimensional (2D) fast Fourier transform (FFT) method is usually employed in order to detect the distance and velocity of the targets. However, in a surveillance radar systems, it is more important to immediately detect the presence or absence of the targets, rather than accurately detecting the distance or speed information of the target. In the proposed algorithm, in order to immediately detect the presence or absence of targets, 1D FFT is performed on the first and M-th bit signals among a total of M beat signals and then a phase change between two FFT outputs is observed. The range of target is estimated only when the phase change occurs. By doing so, the proposed algorithm achieves a significantly lower complexity compared to the conventional surveillance scheme using 2D FFT. In addition, show in order to verify the performance of the proposed algorithm, the simulation and the experiment results are performed using 24GHz FMCW radar module.

This work presents a 77 GHz radar transmitter for the automotive radar system. An integrated 13 GHz frequency synthesizer fabricated using 130 nm RF CMOS process drives a commercial W-band compound semiconductor monolithic multifunction amplifier(MPA), which includes a frequency multiplier by six to generate 77 GHz transmitting signal. The 13 GHz frequency synthesizer includes a high efficiency injection buffer of 4 dBm output power to drive the MPA. The output power of 77 GHz radar transmitter is higher than 13.99 dBm and the magnitude of the reference spur relative to the carrier is -36.45 dBc. The phase noise is -81 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset frequency from the carrier.

In this paper, we design the hardware platform and implement the embedded software based on the FPGA and the DSP for the automotive 77GHz FMCW radar system. This embedded software is built into the DSP as the multi-tasking architecture to support the basic target detection algorithm and the Ethernet link. The designed GUI(Graphic User Interface) provides ability to adjust parameters associated with the radar performance, to monitor signal processing results, and to download the raw received signal. The designed platform can be used to develop the optimal detection algorithms for the various applications.

FMCW radar, which is widely used as a front collision warning system for vehicles, is now being commercialized. In this study we develope the radar signal processing system using MPC5775K that is specialized for high performance ADAS. That has special features for ADAS such as 10Msps 12bit ADC, 50MHz Radix-4 FFT, CTE(Cross Triggering Engine) for synchronized triggering between DAC and ADC. The baseband processing board is implemented and shows the result in Matlab.
