This study proposes a method of implementing Six Sigma linking Lean approach and/or TOC(Theory of Constraints). A case study carried out in a PCB production line is examined to compare Lean Six Sigma and TOC Six Sigma. Implementing guidelines are given to achieve the whole company's optimum.

Due to increase in oil price unstableness and earth warming, energy saving has been one of the most important global issues. We report a 6 sigma project that was carried out to save electrical energy in a university campus. DMAIC, the five-phase process of 6 sigma, was applied for the energy saving campaign. This paper proposes a simple method to quantify the sigma level of the electrical energy saving status and various activities to change the consciousness of all the university members. Results were very satisfied. The 6 sigma project saved about 10% of the total electrical consumption. This is approximately 50 million won a year. The success of the 6 sigma project served as a momentum to promote "Green Scholarship" that has become the center of public interest. Also, we have valuable experiences in the 6 sigma training that shows the university campus can be successfully used as a good place for the actual 6 sigma training.

The building construction industry of Korea was going through difficulties in improving productivity and competitiveness in international market. Therefore we expected to see the improvement in productivity by applying six-sigma based approach to general reinforced concrete construction work. As a result of applying DMAIC method, one of 6 sigma tools, we found that the most effective inspection items are 'Gap of forms' and 'status of clean'. We could see from this case study that the percentage of additional work days has decreased to 37.7% as a result of applying six-sigma based approach to reinforced concrete construction.

This study was performed to improve the hospital food service in quality and customer satisfaction by using 6-sigma strategy which was processed by DMAIC methods. The research procedure was as follows; analyzing the main causes of customer dissatisfaction of food service by using numerical method, and then finding out the standardized problem solving methods, and finally reforming food service process. The effectiveness of 6-sigma activity was measured by ‘food service quality index’, ‘customer satisfaction index’ and ‘total food service satisfaction index’. Food service quality index was calculated by adding grade of soup temperature, food service, delivery time, and setting accuracy. Statistical data analyses were completed by using the Minitab Ver. 14. By performing 6 sigma activity, food service quality index was increased from 67 to 79 points (p<0.05) and customer satisfaction index also rise from 73 to 79points (p<0.05). Satisfaction of meals’ taste, diverse menu, food setting accuracy, remove of food service, overall food service were significantly improved(p<0.05). The results of capability analysis in food service quality index, customer satisfaction index, and total food service satisfaction index were improved 2.11$\sigma$ to 2.49$\sigma$, 1.88$\sigma$ to 2.43$\sigma$, and 2.04$\sigma$ to 2.47$\sigma$ respectively (p<0.05). Therefore this study showed that subjective food service improving process could be measured by objective numerical value which might be used for financial value in hospital management.

It is important to measure financial effect of six sigma projects accurately for successful implementation of six sigma in a company. However, researches on methods of six sigma financial effect measurement are relatively new. In this study, frequent error patterns of six sigma financial effect measurement are defined and accurate measurement methods are suggested. And a method of connecting six sigma financial effect to corporate income performance is also suggested which not only assures reliability of financial effect measurement but also helps to align with business strategy.

In this research, first, the effect of Six Sigma activities and business performance will be checked based on case studies involving companies adopting Six Sigma and, secondly, the Six Sigma training effectiveness, Customer Satisfaction and Financial Performance, etc, will be evaluated to find out how related to Six Sigma Implementation. Finally, Six Sigma's Implementation Categories will be analyzed. The method used in this research was to select the research model and research hypothesis based on theoretical studies and the interesting aspects of the recent Six Sigma, along with case studies and research based on actual proof. Case studies and research based on actual proof showed that among 11 companies analyzed, a total of 11 companies obtained good results, and KIs were found to be factors of their success.

This paper is a study on image noise reduction of modified sigma filter by image decomposition using directivity. Conventional sigma filter has been shown to be a good solution both in terms of filtering accuracy and computational complexity. However, the sigma filter does not preserve well small edges especially for high level of additive noise. In this paper, we propose here a new method using a modified sigma filter. In our proposed method the input image is first decomposed in two components that have features of horizontal, vertical and diagonal direction. Then, two components are applied HPF and LPF. By applying a conventional sigma filter separately on each of them, the output image is reconstructed from the filtered components. Added noise is removed and our proposed method preserves the edges from the image. Comparative results from experiments show that the proposed algorithm achieves higher gains, on average, 2.6 dB PSNR than the sigma filter and 0.5 dB PSNR than the modified sigma filter. When relatively high levels of noise added, the proposed algorithm shows better performance than two conventional filters.

This study was to explore lived experience of middle-aged women with aging. The ultimate purpose of this inquiry was to discover the essence of middle-aged women's experience of aging and to promote understanding. Method: This inquiry was performed by using Van Manen's hermeneutical phenomenological approach to make more plausible interpretation of experience. First-handed experiences were explored through multi-stage in-depth interview with 6 women aged between 40 and 64. Second- handed experiences were explored with text such as essay, novel, and photographs. Result: As the process of reflecting and analysing the data of experience were performed, essential themes were emerged: striking onset of event, discomfort and tired body and mind, everything in ones mind, age of harvest gaining much more than loss. Conclusion: This inquiry would be a cornerstone for humanistic nursing care for the mid-aged women.

In this paper, we propose new gain optimization method for Sigma-Delta A/D converters. First, in proposed method, the 10 candidates are selected through SNR maximization for Sigma-Delta modulator. After then, it is shown that optimum gains can be obtained through MSE calculation for CIC decimation filter. In the simulation, The proposed method has advantages which utilize SNR maximization for modulator and MSE minimization for CIC decimation later. The more candidates are chosen in SNR maximization for modulator, the better gains can be obtained in MSE minimization for CIC decimation filter.

As the competition between companies are deepened, the number of companies adopting six sigma principles, which is one of the innovative management strategies, are increasing. According to this trend, the changes in both strategies and methodologies of six sigma are continuous. However, the evaluations and the management principles included in the process after the six sigma applications are insufficient, and the cooperation between the parties in the company is also not enough because the application process of six sigma is too complex and not efficient. In order to solve this problem, a research for developing the methodology which can learn about and do six sigma applications is so necessary, specifically for expanding the six sigma applications and introducing the participation of all company members. The purpose of this study, therefore, was to develop and present more efficient Six Sigma applied process by reducing the existing unnecessary steps in improvement one, by applying the examination method of wasteful elements on the potential factors, through analyzing the Six Sigma DMAIC applied case in the construction industry. The result of those application showed that the detection of potential factors using wasting elements was possible in measurement step and that it was possible for the improved process with reduced steps compared to existing process while to remain the outcomes. It is considered that the performance rate of Six Sigma project will be improved significantly because the reduction in the improvement step does not affect the improvement effect within the whole Six Sigma project.
