Decomposition of Organic Compound by Photo-Chemical Reaction on Ilmenite (일메나이트 상에서 광화학반응에 의한 유기물의 분해)

  • Photo-decomposition experiments to produce hydrogen from organic compound such as alcohols and organic acids were investigated using the Korean natural ilmenite, which was used as ore itself as well as the calcined in vacuum. The decomposition activities of alcohol on ore (30-60 mesh) which was not calcined did not decrease even if it was repeatedly used. But crushed ore which had newly formed ilmenite surface revealed enhanced activities. The ilmenite powder calcined in vacuum showed 3-8 times higher activies than the ore powder itself and also the decomposition activity of formic acid was much higher than that of alcohols.

Detailed Finite Element Analysis of Full-scale Four-story Steel Frame Structure subjected to Consecutive Ground Motions

  • Detailed finite element (FE) analyses of a full-scale four-story steel frame structure, subjected to consecutive 60% and 100% excitations from the JR Takatori records during the 1995 Hyogoken-Nanbu earthquake, are conducted using E-Simulator. The four-story frame was tested at the largest shake-table facility in the world, E-Defense, in 2007. E-Simulator is a parallel FE analysis software package developed to accurately simulate structural behavior up to collapse by using a fine mesh of solid elements. To reduce computational time in consecutive dynamic time history analyses, static analysis with gravity force is introduced to terminate the vibration of the structure during the analysis of 60% excitation. An overall sway mechanism when subjected to 60% excitation and a story mechanism resulting from local buckling of the first-story columns when subjected to 100% excitation are simulated by using E-Simulator. The story drift response to the consecutive 60% and 100% excitations is slightly smaller than that for the single 100% excitation.

  • This paper shows electrical analysis of the silicon solar cell according to the various ARC thickness using Medici program. we built a mesh structure of the solar cell that use ARC consisting of ITO(Indium-Tin-Oxide) transparent electrode, for the Medici modeling. About various oxide layer thickness of the ARC for 30 nm, 60 nm, 90 nm, changes of the I-V curve, Isc, Voc, transmittance and external collection efficiency performed according to wavelength of Incident ray. Simulation results show maximum power 22 mW/$cm^2$, fill factor 0.83 in condition of 60 nm ITO thickness.

  • Hydrophilic polyphosphazenes were synthesized from hydrophobic polyphosphazenes by adding methoxyethylenoxy side chains and cast by dip-coating method into membranes supported on porous polypropylene mesh filter sheet for metal separation testing. A solution of $Cr^{3+},\;Co^{2+},\;Mn^{2+}$ nitrates was used in diffusion experiments which were conducted from $25^{\circ}C$ to $60^{\circ}C$. lt was found that the ion transport properties were increased as the repeating number of ethylenoxy side chain increased. Membrane from trifluoroethoxy methoxyethoxyethoxyethoxy co-substituted polyphosphazenes was found to separate $Cr^{3+}$ ion from $Mn^{2-}$ and $Co^{2+}$ ions with separation factor of 4.5 at $60^{\circ}C$.

  • A uniformly convergent numerical method is developed for solving singularly perturbed 1-D parabolic convection-diffusion problems. The developed method applies a non-standard finite difference method for the spatial derivative discretization and uses the implicit Runge-Kutta method for the semi-discrete scheme. The convergence of the method is analyzed, and it is shown to be first order convergent. To validate the applicability of the proposed method two model examples are considered and solved for different perturbation parameters and mesh sizes. The numerical and experimental results agree well with the theoretical findings.

  • In this paper, an electromechanical integrated harmonic piezodrive system is proposed. The operating principle of the drive system is introduced. The equation of the relationship between the displacements of the flexible ring and the rotating angle of the rotor is deduced. Using the equation, the displacements of the flexible ring for the drive system and their changes along with the system parameters are investigated. The results show that the displacements of the flexible ring changes periodically along with the rotation of the vibrator; there are abrupt changes in the displacements of the flexible ring at some points where there are abrupt changes in the number of the mesh teeth pair; the length of the flexible ring, the excitation voltage, and the speed ratio have obvious effects on the displacements of the flexible ring. The results are useful for the design of the drive system. ;

  • Experimental results for convective heat transfer from a number of screen type heat storage materials, made of stainless steel and brass, were obtained by the use of the transient technique.   • Extraction chromatography was used to scarch optimum separation conditions of terbium. Stationary phase was 2-ethylhexyl-2-ethylhexyl phosphonic acid(HEH[EHP])levextrel (-100~+150 mesh), column size was ${\Phi}20{\times}530mm$ and kept constantly temperature at $50^{\circ}C$, adsorption flow rate of $0.2mL/cm^2{\cdot}min$, elution flow rate of $1.0mL/cm^2{\cdot}min$, column diameter to packing height of 1:15. But to search optimum separation conditions of terbium, it changed the eluent acidity, the loading weight of sample. the composition of sample. In conclusion, acidity was 0.6 N HCl, loading weight of sample was about 5% and composition of sample was $Gd_2O_3(20%)+Tb_4O_7(60%)+Dy_2O_3(20%)$. Moreover purity of separated terbium by ICP-AES analysis was 99.98% in yield of 99.99%.

Changes of Physicochemical Characteristics of Acanthopanax senticosus Extract during Storage (오가피 추출액의 저장조건에 따른 이화학적 특성변화)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of temperature and packaging on the quality characteristics of hot-water extract from Acanthopanax senticosus. The herb samples, ground and sifted($8{\sim}20$ mesh), were extracted by a boiling($100^{\circ}C$) water under the atmospheric pressure for 2 hrs. The extract was packed with out nylon PE(0.08 mm) pouch and kept under the condition(40 and $60^{\circ}C$) for 10 days. The reduction of turbidity, pH, polyphenol amount and DPPH radical scavenging activity of extract were retarded by packaging under the low temperature. Titratable acidity was increased with packaging at high temperature. Soluble solid content was not affected by packaging and temperature condition. The changes of quality characteristics followed the first-order reaction rate. Arrhenius equation was applied to determine the effects of temperature on the reaction rate constant, showing high $R^2$. These results suggested that packaging under lower temperature can be utilized for maintaining the quality of A senticosus extract.
