Development and Evaluation of the Bender Type Piezoelectric Energy Harvester According to Installation Methods and Vehicle Weight (매설방법과 차량하중에 따른 벤더형 압전에너지 하베스터의 설계 및 평가)

  • A road energy harvester was designed and fabricated to convert mechanical energy from the vehicle load to electrical energy. The road energy harvester is composed of 20 piezoelectric materials. This study attempted to evaluate output depending on pavement materials when paving road piezoelectric energy harvester in the road. Harvester is the bender type and is the method of supporting the both ends of piezoelectric material and applying the load in the middle part. Harvester was paved in the type paved with asphalt, type paved with cement and in the exposed type not covering the top of harvester. The output characteristics were compared and evaluated depending on changes in vehicle load and vehicle speed changes. As vehicles, truck (11.9 ton), SUV(1.6 ton) and sedan (1.5 ton) were used and the output characteristics when driving at the interval of 10 km/h from 10 km/h to 100 km/h were evaluated.

Collision CFD Analysis of Noise Barrier of Road-Generated Particulate (도로 발생 분진의 방음벽 충돌 CFD 분석)

  • PURPOSES : The computational fluid dynamics of flow and fine particles in a road were set to determine the insert flow and occurrence characteristics. METHODS : The road extension was 100 m with two lanes. A one-ton truck traveled a 50-m distance. After a noise barrier was installed on one side of the road, the flow and a collision analysis were tested. RESULTS : The flow that occurred was 5 m/s beside the vehicle, and fine particulate was $5.0{\times}10^2{\mu}g/m^3$ after 20 m from the exhaust vent. CONCLUSIONS : After a collision analysis of the fine particulate on the noise barrier to find the most suitable position of the filter panel in height, the bottom 1 m was the most optimum position because 88.1% of the distribution was concentrated there.

A Study on the Dynamic Wheel Loads of 3-D Vehicle Model Considering Tire Enveloping (타이어 접지폭을 고려한 3차원 차량모델에 의한 동적 차륜하중에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, research for dynamic wheel loads of 3-D vehicle model considering tire enveloping model is carried out. Heavy trucks with 2-axles and 3-axles are modeled by 7-d.o.f. and 8-d.o.f., in which contact length of tire and pitching of tandem spring axles is considered. Dynamic equations of vehicle are derived by using the Lagrange's equation and solution of the equation is calculated by 5th Runge-Kutter method. The validity of the developed 3-D vehicle model is demonstrated by comparing the results obtained by the present method and experimental data by Whittemore. The maximum impact factors of tire force are calculated when vehicle models of 8ton and 15ton dump truck are running on the different class roads with 1.0km and on the various step bump.

A Fracture Study due to the Fork Width of Forklift (지게차 포크의 폭에 따른 파손 연구)

  • A forklift is used to lift materials above a height of 2 m. The width of the fork determines the weight of the material it can carry. In this paper, three models of fractured forklifts were analyzed to determine if the fracture was caused by load fatigue due to the width of the fork. The position of the fork was fixed on each model, and a 2.5 ton load was placed at the upper part of the fork. The width distances on each of three models were 500 mm, 750 mm and 1000 mm, and the maximum equivalent stresses were 237.5MPa, 227.62MPa and 230.99MPa, respectively. This analysis demonstrated that as the load increased with use of the wider fork, the fatigue life remained to be nearly equivalent irrespective of fork width among all three models. The results of this study contribute to the durability and safety design of forklifts.

Design of a Composite Propeller Shaft with the Reduced Weights and Improved NVH (경량화 및 NVH 향상을 위한 복합재료 프로펠러 축의 설계)

  • The front 2 pieces of the 3-piece steel propeller shaft installed on a 8.5-ton truck were redesigned with a 1 -piece composite propeller shaft with steel yokes and spline parts to get the reduction of weight and the improvement of NVH characteristics. Based on the analysis of bending vibration, strength and cure-induced residual stresses of the composite propeller shaft, proper composite materials and stacking sequences were selected. The composite propeller shaft requires a reliable joining method between the shaft and steel end parts through a steel connector. From 3-D contact stress analyses of the laminated composite shaft with bolted Joints, the 3-row mechanical joint which satisfies the torque transmission capability has been designed. Several full-scale composite shafts were fabricated and tested to verify the design analyses. The design requirements are shown to be satisfied. With the newly designed composite shaft, the weight reduction more than 50% and improvements in NVH characteristics have been achieved.

Fuel Consumption Estimation Models for Heavy Freight Vehicles on Various Operating Speeds (대형화물차량의 주행속도에 따른 연료소모량 산정 모형 개발에 관한 연구)

  • It is common that basic unit and model of fuel consumption have been used to evaluate effectiveness analysis of transportation infrastructure investment programs. However they could not reflect vehicle characteristics such as loading capacity and types of heavy vehicles. For these reasons, this study reviews convention fuel consumption model which is widely used and conducts a field experiment for 5 classes of heavy vehicles. To develop the fuel consumption quadratic model the field data are used and we develop each model by classes, and then compare with convention fuel consumption model. As a result, between convention and suggested model, there are considerable differences, which have a similar pattern between an 11-ton cargo of convention model and a 25-ton cargo type dump truck of the suggested model. Likewise we identify that there is an approximately 26% gap between convention model result and the result which is calculated a weighted average by registered number of heavy vehicles based on 5 types of fuel consumption model suggested in this study. This result implies that convention fuel assumption model has a realistic limitation.

A study on Pb, Zn and Fe Concentrations of Ambient Air Adjacent to Heavy Traffic Road Side in Seoul (서울시 주요 도로변 대기중 납, 아연 및 철 농도에 관한 조사연구)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the concentrations of TSP, Pb, Zn and Fe in ambient air adjacent to the heavy traffic road side in Seoul from October 1 to October 31, 1997. The results were as follows 1. The concentrations of TSP were 260 $\mu g/m^3$, 184 $\mu g/m^3$, 147 $\mu g/m^3$ in Chongro, Chungkechun and Kangnam-terminal, respectively. The concentration of TSP was correlated with the traffic volume of the sampling sites (r=0.77). 2. The concentrations of Pb were 638 ng/m$^3$, 335 ng/m$^3$, 233 ng/m$^3$ in Chungkechun, Kangnam-terminal and Chongro, respectively. The concentration of Pb was correlated with the Truck (over 1.4 ton) volume of the sampling sites (r=0.71). The Pb contents among these sites were significantly different (p < 0.05). 3. The concentrations of Zn were 535 ng/m$^3$, 461 ng/m$^3$, 439 ng/m$^3$ in Chongro, Kangnam-terminal and Chungkechun, respectively. The concentration of Zn was badly correlated with the traffic volume of the sampling sites (r=0.23). 4. The concentrations of Fe were 5.32 $\mu g/m^3$, 4.51 $\mu g/m^3$ and 3.18 $\mu g/m^3$ in Chongro, Kangnam-terminal and Chungkechun, respectively. The concentration of Fe was correlated with the traffic volume of the sampling sites (r=0.83). The Fe contents among these sites were significantly different (p < 0.05). 5. The concentrations of TSP, Pb, Zn, Fe investigated didn't exceed the Korean Ambient Air Quality Standards, but more researches in relation to these will be required in considering people working in these sites suffered from cough, asthma and chronic headache.

A Basic Study on the Mobile Separator and Sorter Development of Small and Medium-sized Discharge Site's Mixed Construction Waste in Rural Area (농촌지역 혼합건설폐기물의 중·소규모 배출현장용 이동식 분리선별기 개발을 위한 기초연구)

  • This study aimed to develop a mobile separating and sorting device for discharge sites to separate and sort mixed construction waste generated in small and medium scale in small provincial cities into inorganic materials and combustible materials. The study results can be summarized as follows: 1) As a result of analyzing the existing domestic technology for the separating and sorting mixed construction waste, a device sorting the waste by fusing the vibration screen, disc screen, air blowing methods and the separating and sorting the combustible waste is applied in Korea. 2) In foreign countries, the air blowing, screen, gravity sorters are used for separating and sorting combustible waste in the same way as in Korea. Especially German T Company suggests a construction waste separating and sorting system using an optical sorter. 3) As for the test device for separating and sorting mixed construction waste to be buried in landfill, the processing capacity was set as 16 tons per day. 4) For separating and sorting inorganic materials by granularity, this study set a trommel with two types of diameter as a basic. To operate the mobile all-in-one system, the device is designed to locate a conveyor, a combustible waste conveying device, inside of the trommel. 5) The device is designed in a mobile mode under the concept of primary separating and sorting device, and it can be transported using a 2.5-ton truck minimum. The diameter and length of the trommel are designed to be within 1500mm and 3000mm, respectively. In a further study, an optimized separating and sorting technology is planned to be presented through an experimental study for processing efficiency analysis at the mixed construction waste site by manufacturing the pilot experiment facility reflecting the design elements in the result of this study.

Study on Entering Improvement of Acceleration Lane onto an Expressway Using a Traffic Simulation (교통시뮬레이션을 활용한 고속도로 유입연결로 가속차로 진입 개선방안에 관한 연구)

  • The length of the acceleration lane in the area of entrance terminals is calculated based on 13 PS/ton horsepower of a cargo truck in Korea, so it is generally overestimated compared with the capacity of most vehicles traveling on an entrance ramp. Most drivers have, therefore, an indiscreet tendency to enter the main lane in all sections of an acceleration lane, which affects the traffic flow of the main lane. Because of this tendency, measures are required to minimize the impact on traffic flow of the main lane. The operating speed, rate of entrance, and traffic volume for each vehicle were investigated at the entrance terminals of the interchanges (ICs) of Yangji IC, Suseok IC, Yongin IC, and Osan IC, and the level of improvement in traffic flow was analyzed via VISSIM simulation. From the VISSIM simulation analysis, 74.0 % of the total vehicles traveled over the specified speed from the nose point where drivers would be able to recognize the traffic condition of the main carriageway, or the point at which there is a simplification of the curve section. In addition, 88.6 % of the vehicles entered the main carriageway up to 0.8 points compared with the entire length of the acceleration lane. It was subsequently found that an improvement of average speed in the main carriageway and at the entrance ramp can be achieved from 60.1 km/h to 68.5 km/h by intentionally limiting the entrance point onto the main carriageway up to 0.265 points of the entrance ramp.

Load Efficiency of Corrugatedboard Boxes for Agricultural Produets on Trucks (화물차 적재중량에 따른 농산물용 골판지상자의 적재효율 분석)

  • In order to improve the load efficiency of pallets and trucks for agricultural products, various transport package sizes have been analyzed by modular coordination process. From the results, the load efficiency on pallet was 99.8 percent when size was 550 by 366 mm and 366 by 275 mm. Load efficiency of standard pallet(1100 by 1100mm) was 93.6% for truck with 11 tons load capacity while as low as 41.1% for 2.5 ton trucks. Like any other products, this study proved that trucks with more than 8 tons of capacity were highly recommended for transportation of agricultural products.
