  • While the fifth generation (5G) and beyond 5G (B5G) mobile communication networks are being rolled over the globe, several world-wide companies have already started to prepare the sixth generation (6G). Such 6G mobile networks targets ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC). In this paper, we challenge to reduce the inherent latency of existing non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) in 5G networks of massive connectivity. First, we propose the novel unipodal binary pulse amplitude modulation (2PAM) NOMA, especially without SIC, which greatly reduce the latency in existing NOMA. Then, the achievable data rates for the unipodal 2PAM NOMA are derived. It is shown that for unequal gain channels, the sum rate of the unipodal 2PAM NOMA is comparable to that of the standard 2PAM NOMA, whereas for equal gain channels, the sum rate of the unipodal 2PAM NOMA is superior to that of the standard 2PAM NOMA. In result, the unipodal 2PAM could be a promising modulation scheme for NOMA systems toward 6G.

  • Changes have been taking place in North Korea, which has been pushing for selective informatization with a priority on a system safety. North Korea has been developing its own mobile communication industry over the past decade by expanding base stations, producing smartphones on its own, and developing applications useful in real life. Recently, the introduction of 5G technology has been elevated to the status of a national agenda to be fostered as a key industry for national economic development. The time has arrived when the needs of North Korea, which has to advance technology, are aligned with the capabilities of South Korean mobile communication companies, which are seeking to new markets to overcome stagnant growth. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate a cooperative scenario for mobile communications companies between the two Koreas in the early stages of the 4th Industrial Revolution and its core technology 5G, while also making a timely proposal to position North Korea in the GVC. Mobile communications is a large-scale industry that can create synergies from inter-Korean economic cooperation by facilitating exchanges and cooperation between the two Koreas, inducing numerous derivative industries and driving job creation. Joint mobile communications activities with North Korea would be an effective cooperative aspect that can contribute to the economic prosperity of the entire Korean Peninsula.

  • The introduction of virtualization technology in the broadcasting field is actively progressing broadcasting service automation and intelligence based on the effective operation of IT resources throughout the broadcasting industry ecosystem. In recent years, there is increasing interest in increasing the flexibility of various broadcasting resources and increasing the efficiency of interworking with other networks through network virtualization of the broadcasting network infrastructure. The fundamental transformation from the broadcasting network to the IP paradigm is facing a situation where it is necessary to solve various problems for the effective interworking of Internet-based service platforms and 5G networks and the development of new convergence services. In other words, for organic and effective interworking with the next-generation broadcasting network represented by ATSC 3.0, a mobile communication network represented by 5G, and the Internet, a number of difficulties must be solved. In this paper, the basic technology and status for the convergence of ATSC 3.0 broadcasting network and mobile communication network represented by 5G was examined, and a plan for the ATSC 3.0 broadcasting network and 5G network to interwork with each other as a network was described.

  • This study analyzes the nature of consumers and smart phones as well as its limitations that domestic mobile communication companies confront. According to the analysis results, emerging technologies such as 5G communication, pervasive computing, augmented reality, and big data seem to have significant effect on the ICT ecosystem in the near future. Based on the results, this study suggests four counterstrategies for domestic mobile communication companies: big data strategy, preparation of things acting as a main communication agent, new service platform development, and 'total life care service provider' strategy.

  • In this paper, a half-wavelength folded-slot antenna, which can be applied to RF module for 3G mobile communications by which security lights are monitored and controlled, is proposed. The proposed antenna can be regarded as modified folded-slot structure which has the size reduced to a half of conventional ${\lambda}g$ folded-slot antenna and can be placed at the ground plane edge. In spite of that, the proposed antenna still maintain the advantage of conventional folded-slot antenna that input impedance is close to $50{\Omega}$. The antenna is designed and fabricated within the upper space of $40.5{\times}10mm^2$ on $40.5{\times}62mm^2$ substrate for 3G mobile communication frequency band. The measured impedance bandwidth and antenna gain are 390 MHz and 2 dBi respectively.

  • Healthcare organizations are overwhelmingly embracing smart value-based care strategies, which focuses on providing superior treatment at a significantly lower cost and quality of service (QoS). For these purposes, fifth generation (5G) of mobile service provides an innumerable improvement that clearly outperforms previous generations e.g., 3G and 4G. However, as with most advancements, 5G is projected to introduce new challenges, prompting the community to think about what comes next. This research was conducted to examine the most recent smart 5G technology applications and the solutions they provide to the healthcare industry. Finally, the paper discusses how the upcoming 6G technology has the potential to transform the future of healthcare sector even beyond the current 5G systems.

  • Recently, there is an increasing demand for ultra-low-latency (ULL) services such as factory automation, autonomous driving, and telesurgery that must meet an end-to-end latency of less than 10 ms. Fifth-generation (5G) New Radio guarantees 0.5 ms one-way latency, so the feasibility of ULL services is higher than in previous mobile communications. However, this feasibility ensures performance at the radio access network level and requires an innovative 5G network architecture for end-to-end ULL across the entire 5G system. Hence, we survey in detailed two the 3rd Generation Partnership Party (3GPP) standardization activities to ensure low latency at network level. 3GPP standardizes mobile edge computing (MEC), a low-latency solution at the edge network, in Release 15/16 and is standardizing time-sensitive communication in Release 16/17 for interworking 5G systems and IEEE 802.1 time-sensitive networking (TSN), a next-generation industry technology for ensuring low/deterministic latency. We developed a 5G system based on 3GPP Release 15 to support MEC with a potential sub-10 ms end-to-end latency in the edge network. In the near future, to provide ULL services in the external network of a 5G system, we suggest a 5G-IEEE TSN interworking system based on 3GPP Release 16/17 that meets an end-to-end latency of 2 ms.

  • In this study, we designed a single antenna taking into account the performance, such as return loss and radiation pattern, of 28 GHz and 38 GHz array antennas for 5G mobile devices. In millimeter wave band communication, high path loss occurs between transmission and reception, unlike in conventional microwave bands. In the design of array antennas for 5G millimeter wave terminals, antenna performance such as antenna gain, bandwidth, isolation between antenna elements, side-lobe level(SLL), etc. should be further considered. The performance of the designed array antennas was analyzed by spacing the antenna elements at half a wavelength. Our results proved the validity of the design and its suitability for applications in mm-Wave by showing that the 28 GHz and 39 GHz array antennas had antenna gains of 13.5 dBi and 11.3 dBi and return losses below -18.4 dB and -20 dB, correspondingly.

  • Cultural contents are the most important factor in high speed and high quality data communication. High-quality content includes VR and AR technology, and a variety of high-quality content can be streamed over wireless mobile phones via smartphones. In addition, network and wired/wireless communication are inevitably required in an Internet of Things (IoT) environment in which things are connected to a wireless Internet. IoT is used in various network technologies such as 4G, 5G mobile communication, WIFI wireless LAN, Bluetooth and so on. It is a technology that can use the connection between things anytime, anywhere, and can be achieved in a wireless mobile communication environment. Therefore, in this paper, we study data error compensation estimation method which can reduce data error based on mobile communication channel environment analysis so that high quality contents can be serviced even in high speed mobile environment.
