  • In 4G mobile communication, data services of mobile communication began to be provided in earnest. As a result, services such as the internet and multimedia including the video have become the main contents in the recent wireless traffic. Accordingly, research on 5G mobile communication with higher transmission rate has been actively carried out. 5G mobile communication is expected to be based on 4G for compatibility with existing terminals. Therefore, the simulation of this paper is based on 4G and we propose a new user scheduling scheme based on the Max throughput scheduling algorithm to improve system performance. This paper derives the frequency efficiency and fairness to compare the existing user scheduling algorithm with the proposed user scheduling algorithm. The proposed scheme shows better frequency efficiency and fairness than Max throughput in all situations. This paper contributes to the research for improving the system performance of 5G mobile communication technology, and I hope that it will help some of the ongoing standardization work.

  • Network and network functions virtualization (NFV) promise a number of attractive benefits and thus have driven mobile network operators to transform their previously static networks to more dynamic and software-defined networks. In this article, we share a mobile network operator's view based on implementation and deployment experiences in the wild during the past few years towards a software-defined 5G core network. More specifically, we present a practical point of view from mobile network operators and elaborate on why some of the virtualization benefits such as total cost of ownership (TCO) reduction are not easily realized as initially intended. Then, we describe 5G visions, services, and their requirements commonly agreed across mobile operators globally. Given the requirements, we then introduce desirable characteristics of 5G mobile core network and its key enabling technologies.

  • Among the activities of 3GPP for operating 5G-based unmanned aerial vehicles, we introduce several use cases of UAVs in 5G mobile communication such as radio access node onboard UAV, simultaneous support data transmission for UAVs and eMBB users, autonomous UAVs controlled by AI, isolated deployment of radio access through UAV, and separation of UAV service area. From this, we further summarize 5G mobile communication requirements for UAVs, including definition and operational criteria of UAS, UAS remote identification requirements, UAS usage requirements, and performance requirements. Finally, regarding 5G mobile communication-based UAS connectivity, identification and tracking support, we discuss the 3GPP UAV architecture, seven major problems, the proposed solutions to each problem, and propose the results for future specification work.

  • The paper presents five strategic opinions for promoting the fourth industry revolution through the supply of 5G additional frequency. The assessments are on the basis of 5G frequency utilization technologies and services, with reference to 3GPP 5G New Radio standards, after investigating the domestic 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G mobile communication services as well as the use of mobile radio frequency and spectrum. The presented opinions contain the frequency supply of contiguous-wide bandwidth channels, harmonized frequency supply between licensed and unlicensed spectrum, the existing 4G frequency recycle for increasing 5G coverage and capacity, balance frequency supply in the multi-band for 5G services, and the development of 5G vertical frequency for industry. The aim is that the presented five strategic opinions can offer guidance for the upcoming plan of domestic 5G additional frequency supply.

  • Recently, competition among global mobile operators has focused on the commercialization of 5G for the first time. Apart from protecting the privacy of subscribers and the confidentiality and integrity of communication, protecting the network against various cyber attacks is also important to ensure that high-quality mobile services operate safely. In this study, we examine the security vulnerabilities with respect to mobile communication environments using previous and current LTEs. We also investigate whether existing vulnerabilities can be effectively protected and identify security issues that need to be considered in the approaching 5G environment.

  • As mobile edge computing (MEC) is gaining attention as a core technology of 5G networks, edge AI technology of 5G network environment based on mobile user data is recently being used in various fields. However, as in traditional AI security, there is a possibility of adversarial interference of standard 5G network functions within the core network responsible for edge AI core functions. In addition, research on data poisoning attacks that can occur in the MEC environment of standalone mode defined in 5G standards by 3GPP is currently insufficient compared to existing LTE networks. In this study, we explore the threat model for the MEC environment using NWDAF, a network function that is responsible for the core function of edge AI in 5G, and propose a feature selection method to improve the performance of detecting data poisoning attacks for Leaf NWDAF as some proof of concept. Through the proposed methodology, we achieved a maximum detection rate of 94.9% for Slowloris attack-based data poisoning attacks in NWDAF.

  • In this paper, the relay antenna was designed in consideration of the performance of the 28GHz band 5G mobile communication relay horn antenna, such as radiation pattern and return loss. A horn array for 5G mobile communication repeater was designed by arranging the antenna elements in phase, and the performance was analyzed. Unlike conventional WCDMA (3G) and LTE (4G), in millimeter wave band communication, high path loss occurs between transmission and reception. In the design of a 5G millimeter wave horn antenna, antenna performance such as isolation and gain between antenna elements as well as gain and bandwidth of the antenna must be additionally considered. The antenna gain of the single horn antenna (1×1) and the array horn antenna (2×4) in the 28GHz band is about 10.44d Bi and 19.58dBi, respectively, and the return loss is designed to be less than -18dB. It has proven its validity and has been shown to be suitable for application to 5G mobile communication relay system.
