Objectives: To evaluate the effects of copolymer of acrylic acid and maleic acid (Poly[AA-co-MA]) and calcium hypochlorite ($Ca(OCl)_2$) on root canal dentin using scanning electron microscope (SEM). Materials and Methods: Twenty-four single-rooted teeth were instrumented and the apical and coronal thirds of each root were removed, leaving the 5 mm middle thirds, which were then separated into two pieces longitudinally. The specimens were randomly divided into six groups and subjected to each irrigant for 5 min as follows: G1, $Ca(OCl)_2$; G2, Poly(AA-co-MA); G3, $Ca(OCl)_2$ + Poly(AA-co-MA); G4, sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl); G5, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA); G6, NaOCl+EDTA. The specimens were prepared for SEM evaluation. Smear layer, debris and erosion scores were recorded by two blinded examiners. One image from G3 was analyzed with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) on suspicion of precipitate formation. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn tests. Results: G1 and G4 showed the presence of debris and smear layer and they were statistically different from G2, G3, G5 and G6 where debris and smear layer were totally removed (p < 0.05). In G1 and G4, erosion evaluation could not be done because of debris and smear layer. G2, G3 and G5 showed no erosion, and there was no significant difference between them. G6 showed severe erosion and was statistically different from G2, G3 and G5 (p < 0.05). EDS microanalysis showed the presence of Na, P, and Ca elements on the surface. Conclusions: Poly(AA-co-MA) is effective in removing the smear layer and debris without causing erosion either alone or with $Ca(OCl)_2$.
Monoclonal antibodies(MAbs) against field isolates of the bovine rotavirus A strain(G6), V strain(G10) and reference I-801 strain(G8) were produced and characterized. Six MAbs(4C2, 4D9, 5E1, 5E7, 5D5, 3E4) against A strain had neutralizing activity and reacted only with the G6 bovine rotaviruses determined by fluorescence focus neutralization (FFN) test. Otherwise, five neutralizing MAbs(1G2, 2G6, 5E2, 5E12, 5H7) against I-801 strain neutralized the G6 and G8 bovine rotaviruses. Five non-neutralizing MAbs(5F12, 7F12, 5E11, 2A11, 2B12) were VP6-specific and cross-reacted with all bovine and porcine rotaviruses examined by fluorescence antibody(FA) test. None of the MAbs reacted with bovie viral diarrhea virus(BVDV) and bovine coronavirus(BCV) determined by FA and FFN test.

We studied the amounts of trans fatty acids and saturated fatty acids in child-favored foods. Confectioneries, breads, donuts and hamburgers were included in this study. The total fatty acid content and the amount of each type of fatty acid were determined by gas chromatography with a flame-ionized detector. Confectioneries were shown to have the highest content of crude fat. The mean content was 24.2${\pm}$6.9 (range: 4.6~41.1) g/100 g food. The mean content of crude fat in donuts, bread and hamburgers was 23.9${\pm}$5.8 (range: 14.1~39.5) g/100 g food, 15.7${\pm}$7.9 (range: 1.4~30.0) g/100 g food, and 9.5${\pm}$3.4 (range: 4.5~18.5) g/100 g food, respectively. Bread had the most trans fatty acids at 1.3 g/100 g food. This result inferred that manufacturers have tried to reduce the trans fat content. The mean content of saturated fatty acids in confectioneries, donuts, bread, and hamburgers was 11.6${\pm}$4.8 (range: 2.0~22.7) g/100 g food, 11.2${\pm}$4.0 (range: 4.8~23.2) g/100 g food, 6.9${\pm}$4.1 (range: 0.6~15.4) g/100 g food, 3.0${\pm}$1.0 (range: 1.0~5.8) g/100 g food, respectively. This content depended on crude fat. The composition of fatty acids varied according to the oil and fat used in the manufacturing process of each food, and the natural content. Foods that were fried in vegetable oil tended to be especially low in saturated fat.
File fish fillets collected from markets were analyzed for their microbial load and microflora, resulting in the level of aerobic mesophiles ranged from $3.5{\times}10^3$ to $1.1{\times}10^8CFU/g$, total coliforms from less than 2.3 to $4.6{\times}10^5MPN/g$, fecal coliforms from 1ess than 2.3 to $1.1{\times}10^5MPN/g$, Enterobacteriaceae from $3{\times}10$ to $4.4{\times}10^5CFU/g$ and fecal Streptococci from $1.6{\times}10^2$ to $7.6{\times}10^6CFU/g$ having Staphylococcus hominis, Staphylococcus hemolyticus, Micrococcus varians, Micrococcus luteus and Streptococcus cremoris as constituent microorganisms of aerobic mesophiles, Escherichia coli and Proteus rettgeri of Family Enterobacteriaceae, and Streptococcus faecium and Streptococcus avium of fecal Streptococci.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate changes in the microbiological safety of food ingredients supplied to elementary school food services during processing. For this purpose, fifteen food ingredients and twelve factories were chosen in the provinces of Daegu and Gyeongbuk. Total plate counts and coliform counts were reduced in the ingredients after washing, but they increased after packing. After packing, the following levels of total plate counts and coliforms were detected, respectively: peeled bellflower roots ($1.2{\sim}3.6{\times}10^6$, $3.1{\sim}4.6{\times}10^5$ CFU/g), blanched vegetables ($5.6{\times}10^3{\sim}2.0{\times}10^5$, <5~$1.5{\times}10^4$ CFU/g), soybean curd (<5~$5.4{\times}10^3$, <5~$2.2{\times}10^3$ CFU/g), buckwheat starch jelly (<5, <5 CFU/g), soybean sprouts ($1.2{\times}10^6{\sim}1.8{\times}10^7$, $2.4{\times}10^5{\sim}4.3{\times}10^6$ CFU/g), mackerel ($2.2{\times}10^2$, $1.3{\times}10^2$ CFU/g), chicken ($3.8{\times}10^4$, $6.7{\times}10^2$ CFU/g), pork ($6.7{\times}10^2$, <5 CFU/g), and beef ($9.4{\times}10^2{\sim}5.2{\times}10^4$, <5~$2.1{\times}10^3$ CFU/g). Generally, the microbiological safety of the food ingredients was better during the processing stage than during the other stages, with the exception of packing. Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, and Bacillus cereus were detected in small amounts on the peeled bellflower roots, chicken, and pork, respectively. These results indicate that peeled bellflower roots, chicken, and pork need to be sanitized at the washing stage and cross contamination must be prevented at the packing stage.
To investigate nutritional and growth status of premature infants, survey was conducted against 19 premature infants admitted to Nursery of Pediatrics, Young nam University Hospital from Jan. 1984 to July 1988. Variations in feeding patterns as analyzed through the five feeding phases of dextrose, dextrose/hyperal, dextrose/formula, dextrose/hyperal/formula and formula. This study was conducted to measure the lead level in the blood, scalp hair and toenail of the elementary schoolchildren and assess the relationship among those samples. Lead concentration of the blood, scalp hair and toenail was measured for 100(male 50, female 50) fourth grade elementary schoolchildren in Taegu city. The mean lead level in the blood, scalp hair and toenail was $6.00{\pm}2.44{\mu}g/dl,\;6.68{\pm}3.54{\mu}g/g,\;and\;7.33{\pm}3.18{\mu}g/g. The mean lead level in the blood of schoolboys was $6.43{\pm}2.77{\mu}g/dl$, and that of schoolgirls was $5.59{\pm}2.01{\mu}g/dl$. The mean lead level in the scalp hair of schoolboys was $7.66{\pm}2.97{\mu}g/g$ and that of schoolgirls was $6.88{\pm}3.54{\mu}g/g$. The mean lead level in the toenail of schoolboys was $8.19{\pm}3.5{\mu}g/g$ and that of schoolgirls was $6.47{\pm}2.52{\mu}g/g$ and their difference was statistically significant. In schoolboys, the correlation coefficient between the lead level in the blood and scalp hair was 0.4909, and the data were fitted best by the regression equation Y = 0.5255X+4. 2810, where Y and X are scalp hair and blood concentration. In schoolgirls the correlation coefficient between the lead level in the blood and scalp hair was 0.3778, and the data were fitted best by the regression equation Y = 0.6655X+2.9632, where Y and X are scalp hair and blood concentration. In schoolboys, the correlation coefficient between the lead level in the blood and in the toenail was 0.5533, and the data were fitted best by the regression equation Y = 0.7076X+3. 6472, where Y and X are toenail and blood concentration. In schoolgirls the correlation coefficient between the lead level in the blood and in the toenail was 0.2738, and the data were fitted best by the regression equation Y = 0.3431X+4.5570, where Y and X are toenail and blood concentration In schoolboys, the correlation coefficient between the lead level in the scalp hair and in the toenail, in the schoolboys was 0.4148, and the data were fitted best by the regression equation Y = 0.4956X+4.3986, where Y and X are toenail and scalp hair concentration. In schoolgirls, the correlation coefficient between the lead level in the scalp hair and in the toenail was 0.1159, and the data were fitted best by the regression equation Y = 0.0825X+5. 9214, where Y and X are toenail and scalp hair concentration. Correlation among lead concentration in the blood, scalp hair and toenail of schoolchildren were statistically significant except between scalp hair and toenail in schoolgirls. These finding suggest that blood, scalp hair and toenail can be used as substitutive samples between each others.

After making tea by steaming the Artichoke(Hellanthus tuberosus) nine times and drying them nine times, the ingredients and functions of the Artichoke tea were compared to those of M. It had 342.27kcal/100g in its own deloped Artichoke tea, 73.87g/100g of carbohydrates, 6.80g/100g of crude ash and 8.21g/100g of crude protein. The total of free sugars were 32.66mg/100, among them, fructose 17.40, sucrose 9.03 and glucose 6.05 mg/100g. The total mineral contents of the developed tea was 2,785.67mg/100g. It was 2,563.93mg/100g of potassium, 97.52mg/100g of calcium and 88.78mg/100g of magnesium. The saturated fat of Artichoke tea was 30.34mg/100g and unsaturated fat was 69.66mg/100g, among which the linoleic acid was 47.0mg/100%, palmitic acid was 25.31mg/100% and linolenic acid was 8.61mg/100g. DPPH radical scavenging was 34.2% of teas that were developed, 5.2% of M's for comparison, and 44.0% of index materials. ABTS radical scavenging was 93.0% of teas developed, 61.9% of M's tea and 47.6% of index materials, and SOD like activity was 2.7% of teas developed and 1.6% of M's tea. The flavonoid content was 2.8 fold of the tea developed, 2.0 fold of M's tea and 1.7 fold of index material. The polyphenol content was 38.2 fold, 8.92 fold of M's tea and 14.0 fold of index material. The inhibition rate for ${\alpha}$-glucosidase was 9.83% teas developed and 8.92% of M's. The sensory evaluation compares to the one time extract and the five time extract. Based on the one-time extract, color of tea developed was 83.7%, the M's tea was 50.0%, the flavor was 78%, M's tea was 42.5%, the delicate taste was 66.7% of teas developed and M's tea was 37.5% and the overall acceptability was 73.3% of teas developed, M's tea was 47.5%. The comparison of M's tea showed that the extract decreased as we made it, and the overall symbol level decreased to 46.3% after five time-extyracts, while that of the developed tea decreased to 73.3%. The Artichoke tea developed this way is believed to have greater antioxidant function, higher effective substance content, and a higher affinity than M's tea an index material for comparison purposes.
This study was conducted to establish the proper techniques of the recirculating wick hydroponics for safe seed tuber proliferation of potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L. CV. Dejima). To achieve these, several intact tubers (5, 10 and 20 g) and cut seed-pieces (two or four) were treated in wick hydroponic system beds. A polystyrene box (31cm in width, 20cm in height, 51cm in length, and $0.031m^3$ in volume) was placed on a styrofoam hox. Eight wicks $(width\;1.5cm\;{\times}\;length\;40cm) $ were put into each polystyrene hox and the boxes were filled with perlite + peatmoss (1 : 2, v/v) medium. Top fresh weight per plant increased with increasing the tuber size from 10 to 30g/tuber. As the tuber size increases from 10 to 30 g/tuher in case of uncut tuber, the marketable tuber (>5g) production per plant increased from 83.8 to 141.8 g/plant and the marketable tuber (>5g) production per plant of cut tuber was slightly higher than that of uncut treatment. Total tuber yield ranged from 4.16 to $6.56kg/m^2$ and the percentage of seed tubers was greater than $97\%$ for all treatments. These results indicate that seed tuber should be cut to produce large tuber $(\geq10g)$ in the recirculating wick hydroponic system.
