Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were successfully synthesized through a simple green route using the Nelumbo nucifera leaf, stem and flower extracts. These nanoparticles showed characteristic UV-Vis absorption peaks between 410-450 nm which arises due to the plasmon resonance of silver nanoparticles. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) confirmed the presence of amides and which acted as the stabilizing agent. X-ray diffraction spectrum of the nanoparticles confirmed the Face centered cubic (FCC) structure of the formed AgNPs. Dynamic light scattering technique was used to measure hydrodynamic diameter (68.6 nm to 88.1 nm) and zeta potential (-55.4 mV, -57.9 mV and 98.9 mV) of prepared AgNPs. The scanning electron micrographs of dislodged nanoparticles in aqueous solution showed the production of reasonably monodispersed silver nanoparticles (1-100 nm). The antimicrobial activity of prepared AgNPs was evaluated against fungi, Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria using disc diffusion method. Anti-corrosion studies were carried out using coupon method (mild steel and iron) and dye degradation studies were carried out by assessing photo-catalytic activity of Nelumbo nucifera extracts mediated AgNPs.

The objectives of this study were to identify antioxidant substance in heated onion. The isolation of active compound was performed in three steps: silica gel column chromatography, preparative TLC, and preparative HPLC. The structure of the purified compound was determined using spectroscopic methods, i.e., ultraviolet, mass spectrometry, $^1H$-NMR, $^{13}C$-NMR, and DEPT. The antioxidant activities of isolated compound were evaluated and compared with $\alpha$-tocopherol, ascorbic acid, and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) using DPPH and ABTS assay. The isolated compound was identified as 2,3-dihydro-3,5-dihydroxy-6-methyl-4H-pyran-4-one(DDMP). The DPPH radical-scavenging activity ($IC_{50}$) of the DDMP was in the following order: ascorbic acid (45.3 ${\mu}g/mL$)>$\alpha$-tocopherol (69.2 ${\mu}g/mL$)>DDMP (241.6 ${\mu}g/mL$)>BHT (268.0 ${\mu}g/mL$). In addition, DDMP showed strong ABTS radical-scavenging activity of 569.0 mg AA eq/g.
The aerial parts of Lespedeza cuneata were collected, air-dried and extracted with 95% aqueous EtOH. Then it was successively partitioned with n-hexane, $CH_2Cl_2$, EtOAc and $H_2O$. Repeated Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography on the EtOAc- and $H_2O-soluble$ fractions gave four compounds. Their structures were elucidated as quercetin (1), kaempferol (2), desmodin (3) and homoadonivernith (4) on the basis of spectroscopic evidences such as $^{1}H-NMR$, $^{13}C-NMR$, 2D-NMR and MS spectrum. Desmodin (3) and homoadonivernith (4) have not been reported from this plant so far.

Nickel substituted manganese ferrites, $Mn_{1-x}Ni_xFe_2O_4$ ($0.0{\leq}x{\leq}0.6$), were fabricated by sol-gel method. The effects of sintering and substitution on their crystallographic and magnetic properties were studied. X-ray diffractometry of $Mn_{0.6}Ni_{0.4}Fe_2O_4$ ferrite sintered above 523 K indicated a spinel structure; particles increased in size with hotter sintering. The M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectrum of this ferrite sintered at 523 K could be fitted as a single quadrupole doublet, indicative of a superparamagnetic phase. Sintering at 573 K led to spectrum fitted as the superposition of two Zeeman sextets and a single quadrupole doublet, indicating both ferrimagnetic and paramagnetic phase. Sintering at 673 K and at 773 K led to spectra fitted as two Zeeman sextets due to a ferrimagnetic phase. The saturation magnetization and the coercivity of $Mn_{0.6}Ni_{0.4}Fe_2O_4$ ferrite sintered at 773 K were 53.05 emu/g and 142.08 Oe. In $Mn_{1-x}Ni_xFe_2O_4$ ($0.0{\leq}x{\leq}0.6$) ferrites, sintering of any composition at 773 K led to a single spinel structure. Increased Ni substitution decreased the ferrites' lattice constants and increased their particle sizes. The M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectra could be fitted as the superposition of two Zeeman sextets due to the tetrahedral and the octahedral sites of the $Fe^{3+}$ ions. The variations of saturation magnetization and coercivity with changing Ni content could be explained using the changes of particle size.

The purpose of this study was to compare the chemical properties of the bokbunja distributed in Korea with the content of the bioactive substance ellagic acid. The bokbunja was Rubus coreanus group and Rubus occidentalis group were compared, domestic bokbunja and import bokbunja were compared. In bokbunja, free sugar was 30.89 ± 0.7 mg/g of Rubus coreanus and 29.05 ± 0.87 mg/g of Rubus occidentalis. and 27.28 ± 7.4 mg/g of domestic bokbunja and 21.58 ± 6.73 mg/g of import bokbunja. The free amino acids was 4.50 ± 0.08 mg/g of Rubus coreanus and 5.05 ± 0.08 mg/g of Rubus occidentalis. and 4.13 ± 1.09 mg/g of domestic bokbunja and 3.75 ± 0.31 mg/g of import bokbunja. Validation of the ellagic acid method was confirmed by comparing the retention time and spectrum of the standard and extract using HPLC. The calibration curve (R2) showed linearity of 0.9999. As a result of analyzing the ellagic acid content of each extraction solvent, DMSO and methanol mixture extracts were high, and Rubus coreanus was 2.56 mg/g and Rubus occidentalis was 3.16 mg/g, which was not significantly different (p < 0.05) In addition, the ellagic acid content of domestic bokbunja and import bokbunja was 2.83 mg/g and 2.99 mg/g, which was not significantly different (p < 0.05).
The genome of red pepper was investigated by thermal denaturation, reassociation kinetics and measurement of nuclear volume for its base composition, spectrum of kinetic components and genome size. Base composition was estimated to be 37% (G+C) based on melting temperature. The reassociation of 300 nt fragments analyzed by hydroxyapatite chromatography revealed the presence of three kinetic components differing in fraction of genome, kinetic complexity and number of copies as follows; 4.8% (fast) with $5.6{\times}10^{4}\;bp$ and 10,754, 26% (intermediate) with $1.9{\times}10^{6}\;bp$ and 177, and 65% (slow) with $8.48{\times}10^{8}\;bp$ and 1. These measurements demonstrate that the genome of red pepper has a 1C DNA content of $1.25{\times}10^{9}\;bp$, which is about 33% of $4.05{\times}10^{9}\;bp$ calculated from nuclear volume of $62.4\;\mu\textrm{m}^3/1C$..
The sharp-line absorption spectrum of microcrystalline samples of cis-[Cr(cycb)$Cl_2$]Cl (cycb=rac-5,5,7,12,12,14-hexamethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane) has been measured between 13000 and $16000 cm^{-1}$ at temperatures down to 5K. The 77K emission and excitation spectra, and 298 K infrared and visible absorption spectra have also been measured. The nine electronic bands due to spin-allowed and spin-forbidden transitions were assigned. Using the observed transitions, a ligand field analysis has been performed to probe the ligand field properties of coordinated atoms in the title chromium(III) complex. The zero-phonon line in the sharp-line absorption spectrum splits into two components by $240 cm^{-1}$ , and the $large ^2$$_E{g}$ splitting can be reproduced by the modem ligand field theory. It is confirmed that nitrogen atoms of the macrocyclic cycb ligand have a strong $\sigma$-donor character, but chloride ligand has weak $\sigma$- nd $\pi$-donor properties toward chromium(III) ion.n.

The shielding effectiveness of materials is determined by measuring the ratio of the incident electromagnetic power to that which passes through the material under test. The measurement system is constructed using several test fixtures, tracking generator, spectrum analyzer, step attenuator, RF switches, and amplifiers, etc.. The automation of measurements is completed using a personal computer. Especially, incident power, reflected power, and transmitted power are measured with only one spectrum analyzer using a dual directional coupler and RF switches. Therefore the system is to be used in design of shielding materials, as well as shielding effectiveness measurements. This system has dynamic range of more than 120 dB in the frequency range of 10 MHz to 1 GHz, and it can be used to measure shielding effectiveness of composite materials.

We have successfully termed brown colored patterns inside of a transparent borosilicate glass generally known as BK7, laying the focus of near infrared Ti: sapphire femtosecond laser beam in the bulk BK7 glass. It is important to keep the laser power well below the damage threshold of BK7 in forming the color center. Thanks to the low laser power, there was no laser induced mechanical damage such as cracks or threads in the color formed area. From the absorbance spectrum and its gaussian fitting, we found the band gap of BK7, 4.21eV, and three absorption edges.
Total carotenoid contents, color values and spectrum characterization in the range of UV of fruit juice and organic acid and free sugar contents determined by HPLC were investigated on 10 varieties of Cheju citrus fruits. Carotenoid contents of juice were 0.47-9.20$\mu\textrm{g}$/ml which showed higher with Dangyooja while showed lowest content with Meiwa Kumquat.
