2-Hydroxy-6-oxo-6phenylhexa-2,4-dienoate (HOPDA) hydrolase catalyzes the hydrolytic cleavage of HOPDA to bemzpate and 2-hydroxypenta-2, 4-dienoate (HPD) during microbial catabolism of biphenyl and polychlorinated biphenyls. A HOPDA hydrolase gene (pcbD) was isolated from the genomic library of Pseudomonas sp. P20 and designated as pCNUO1201; a 7.5-kb XbaI DNA fragment from Pseudomonas sp. P20 was inserted into the pBluescript SK(+) XbaI site. E. coli HB101 harboring pCNU1201 exhibited HOPDA hydrolase activity. The open reading frame (ORF) corresponding to the pcbD gene consisted of 855 base pairs with an ATG initiation codon and a TGA termination codon. The ORF was preceded by a rebosome-binding sequence of 5'-TGGAGC-3' and its G+C content was 55 mol%. The pcbD gene of Pseudomonas sp. P20 was located immedeately downstream of the pcbC gene encoding 2,3- dihydroxybiphenyl 1,2-dioxygenase, and approximately 4-kb upstream of the pcbE gene encoding HPD hydratase. The pcbK gene was able to encode a polypeptide with a molecular weight of 31,732 containing 284 amino acid residues. The deduced amino acid sequence of the HOPDA hydrolase of Pseudomonas sp. P20 exhibited high identity (62%) with those of the HOPDA hydrolases of P. putida KF715, P. pseudoalcaligenes KF707, and Burkholderia cepacia LB400, and also significant homology with those of other hydrolytic enzymes including esterase, transferase, and peptidase.

This paper presents a high-speed sensing and noise cancellation technique for large touch screens, which is called FDCS (Frequency Division Concurrent Sensing). Most conventional touch screen detection methods apply excitation pulses sequentially and analyze the sensing signals sequentially, and so are often unacceptably slow for large touch screens. The proposed technique applies sinusoidal signals of orthogonal frequencies simultaneously to all drive lines, and analyzes the signals from each sense line in frequency domain. Its parallel driving allows high speed detection even for a very large touch screens. It enhances the sensing SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) by introducing a frequency domain noise filtering scheme. We also propose a pre-distortion equalizer, which compensates the drive signals using the inverse transfer function of touch screen panel to further enhance the sensing SNR. Experimental results with a 23" large touch screen show that the proposed technique enhances the frame scan rate by 273% and an SNR by 43dB compared with a conventional scheme.

A new algorithm is proposed for the extraction of line segments to construct 3D wire-frame models of building from the high-resolution aerial images. The purpose of this study Is the accurate and effective extraction of line segments, considering the problems such as discordance of lines and blurred edges existing in the conventional methods. Using the edge map extracted from aerial images, chain code tracking of edges was performed. Then, we extract the line segments considering the strength of edges and the direction of them. SUSAN (Smallest Uni-value Segment Assimilating Nucleus) algorithm proposed by Smith was used to extract an edge map. The proposed algorithm consists of 4 steps: removal of the horizontal, vertical and diagonal components of edges to reduce non-candidate point of line segments based on the chain code tracking of the edge map, removal of contiguous points, removal of the same angle points, and the extraction of the start and end points to be line segments. By comparing the proposed algorithm with Boldt algorithm, better results were obtained regarding the extraction of the representative line segments of buildings, having relatively less extraction of unnecessary line segments.

A CMOS Image Sensor(CIS) mounted on mobile appliances always needs a low power consumption because of the battery life cycle. In this paper, we propose novel power reduction techniques such as a data flip-flop circuit with leakage current elimination, a low power single slope A/D converter with a novel comparator, and etc. Based on 0.13um CMOS process, the chip satisfies QVGA resolution($320{\times}240$ pixels) whose pitch is 2.25um and whose structure is 4-Tr active pixel sensor. From the experimental results, the ADC in the middle of CIS has a 10-b resolution, the operating speed of CIS is 16 frame/s, and the power dissipation is 25mW at 3.3V(Analog)/1.8V(Digital) power supply. When we compare the proposed CIS with conventional ones, the power consumption is reduced approximately by 22% in sleep mode, 20% in operating mode.
The seismic responses of a building are affected by the connection characteristics that have effects on structural stiffness. In this study, push-over analysis and time history analysis were performed to estimate structural behavior of 2D eight-story unbraced steel structures with partially restrained composite connections using a nonlinear dynamic analysis program. Nonlinear $M-{\theta}$characteristics of connection and material inelastic characteristics of composite beam and steel column were considered. The idealization of composite semi-rigid connection as fully rigid connection yielded an increase in initial stiffness and ultimate strength in the push-over analysis. In time history analysis, the stiffness and hysteretic behavior of connections have effects on base-shear force, maximum story-drift and maximum moment in beams and columns. For seismic waves with PGA of 0.4 g, the structure with the semi-rigid composite connections shows the maximum story-drift with less than the life safety criteria by FEMA 273 and no inelastic behavior of beam and column, whereas in the structure with rigid connections, beams and columns have experienced inelastic behaviors.

This study aims to provide primary data for R&D on rollator-walking frame through researching the usability test of the rollator-walking frame and the effect of rollator-walking frames on the lives of senior citizens. This study surveyed 60 senior citizens living in Sungnam City in South Korea. As the result of the usability test, we can find users' dissatisfaction with the folding, weight, shape of backrest and material of chair. The survey shows that the frequency of outdoor activity is mostly increased by the convenience of product. However, the inconvenience while using facilities, such as elevators or public transportations, gave a significant impact on the decrease in going out experiences. Therefore, for better outside lifestyle of senior citizens, it is important to improve the function of the product, however, we need to make improvement of urban infrastructure.
This paper presents a method of quantization to extract quantization parameters using the straight-line and DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) for two splited frequency bands. As the number of harmonic is variable frame to frame, harmonics in low frequency band is oversampled to fix the dimension and straight-lines present a spectral envelope, then the discontinuous points of straight-lines in low frequency is sent to quantizer. Thus, extraction of quantization parameters using the straight-line provides a fixed dimension. Harmonics in high frequency use variable DCT to obtain quantization parameters and this paper proposes a method of quantization combining the straight-line with DCT. The measurement (If proposed method of quantization uses spectral distortion (SD) for spectral magnitudes. As a result, The proposed method of quantization improved 0.3dB in term of SD better than HVXC.
MPEG-4 is a standard for multimedia applications and provides a set of technologies to satisfy the needs of authors, service providers and end users alike. In this paper, we suggest a Real-time Multiple Circular Buffer (M4RM Buffer) model, which is suitable for streaming these MPEG-4 contents efficiently. M4RM buffer generates each structure of the buffer, which matches well with each object composing an MPEG-4 content, according to the transferred information, and manipulates multiple read/write operations only by its reference. It divides the decoder buffer and the composition buffer, which are described in the standard, by the unit of frame allocated to minimize the range of access. This buffer unit of a frame is allocated according to the object description. Also, it processes the objects synchronization within the buffer and provides APIs for an efficient buffer management to process the real-time user events. Based on the performance evaluation, we show that M4RM buffer model decreases the waiting time in a buffer frame, and so allows the real-time streaming of an MPEG-4 content using the smaller size of the memory block than IM1-2D and Window Media Player.
In this paper, a new 4-way search window is developed for H.264 Motion Estimation(ME) to improve the memory bandwidth. The proposed 4-way(up, down, left, right) search window could improve the reuse of overlapped window data to reduce the redundancy access factor by 1.4, though the 1/3-way search window requires $7.7{\sim}11$ times of data retrieval redundantly. In experiments, the new implementation of 4-way search window on Altera Stratix-III could deal with CIF ($352{\times}288$) video of 3 reference frame, $48{\times}48$ search area and $16{\times}16$ macroblock by 30fps real time at 55.2MHz.

In this paper, a low bitrate video coding method based on new panoramic modeling is proposed for panning cameras. An input video frame from a panning camera is decomposed into a background image, rectangular moving object regions, and a residual image. In coding the background, we employ a panoramic model that can account for several image formation processes, such as perspective projection, lens distortion, vignetting and illumination effects. Moving objects aredetected, and their minimum bounding rectangular regions are coded with a JPEG-2000 coder. We have evaluated the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm with several indoor and outdoor sequences and found that the PSNR is improved by $1.3{\sim}4.4dB$ compared to that of JPEG-2000.
