Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the displacement pattern and the stress distribution of the finite element model 3-D visualization during symphyseal widening according to the osteotomy position, osteotomy type, and distraction device. Methods: The kinds of distraction devices used were tooth-borne type, hybrid type, bone-borne type and tooth-borne type $30^{\circ}$ angulated, and the kinds of osteotomy design were vertical osteotomy line between the central incisors and step osteotomy line through the symphysis. Results: All reference points of the mandible including the condyles were displaced laterally irrespective of the osteotomy position, osteotomy method and distraction device. The anteroposterior or vertical displacements showed small differences between the groups. The widening pattern of the osteotomy line in the tooth-borne type of device was v shaped, and that of bone-borne type was a reverse v shape. However, the pattern in the hybrid type was parallel. The lateral displacement of the mandibular angle by the bone-borne device was more remarkable than the other types of devices. The displacement by the $30^{\circ}$ angulated tooth-borne type was different between the left and right sides in both the transverse and anteroposterior aspects. Conclusion: The design of the distraction devices and osteotomy line can influence the displacement pattern and the stress distribution during mandibular symphyseal distraction osteogenesis procedures.
The impacts of waste tire rubber (WTR) on the bending conduct of reinforced concrete beams (RCBs) are investigated in visualization of experimental tests and 3D finite element model (FEM) using both ANSYS and SAP2000. Several WTR rates are used in total 4 various full scale RCBs to observe the impact of WTR rate on the rupture and bending conduct of RCBs. For this purpose, the volumetric ratios (Vf) of WTR were chosen to change to 0%, 2.5%, 5% and 7.5% in the whole concrete. In relation to experimental test consequences, bending and rupture behaviors of the RCBs are observed. The best performance among the beams was observed in the beams with 2.5% WTR. Furthermore, as stated by test consequences, it is noticed that while WTR rate in the RCBs is improved, max. bending in the RCBs rises. For test consequences, it is clearly recognized as WTR rate in the RCB mixture is improved from 0% to 2.5%, deformation value in the RCB remarkably rises from 3.89 cm to 7.69 cm. This consequence is markedly recognized that WTR rates have a favorable result on deformation values in the RCBs. Furthermore, experimental tests are compared to 3D FEM consequences via using ANSYS software. In the ANSYS, special element types are formed and nonlinear multilinear misses plasticity material model and bilinear misses plasticity material model are chosen for concrete and compression and tension elements. As a consequence, it is noticed that each WTR rates in the RCBs mixture have dissimilar bending and rupture impacts on the RCBs. Then, to observe the impacts of WTR rate on the constructions under near-fault ground motions, a reinforced-concrete building was modelled via using SAP2000 software using 3-D model of the construction to complete nonlinear static analysis. Beam, column, steel haunch elements are modeled as nonlinear frame elements. Consequently, the seismic impacts of WTR rate on the lateral motions of each floor are obviously investigated particularly. Considering reduction in weight of structure and capacity of the members with using waste tire rubber, 2.5% of WTR resulted in the best performance while the construction is subjected to near fault earthquakes. Moreover, it is noticeably recognized that WTR rate has opposing influences on the seismic displacement behavior of the RC constructions.

The Fluorescence-Activated Cell Sorter (FACS) is a well-established instrument used for identifying, enumerating, classifying and sorting cells by their physical and optical characteristics. For a miniaturized FACS device, a disposable plastic microchip has been developed which has a hydrodynamic focusing chamber using soft lithography. As the characteristics of the spatially confined sample stream have an effect on sample throughput, detection efficiency, and the accuracy of cell sorting, systematic fluid dynamic studies are required. Flow visualization is conducted with a laser scanning confocal microscopy (LSCM), and three-dimensional flow structure of the focused sample stream is reconstructed from 2D slices acquired at $1\mutextrm{m}$ intervals in depth. It was observed that the flow structure in the focusing chamber is skewed by unsymmetrical velocity profile arising from trapezoidal cross section of the microchannel. For a quantitative analysis of a microscopic flow structure, Confocal Micro-PIV system has been developed to evaluate the accelerated flow field in the focusing chamber. This study proposes a method which defines the depth of the measurement volume using a detection pinhole. The trajectories of red blood cells (RBCs) and their interactions with surrounding flow field in the squeezed sample stream are evaluated to find optimal shape of the focusing chamber and fluid manipulation scheme for stable cell transporting, efficient detection, and sorting
In order to simulate a depth-of-field effect in real world, there have been several researches in computer graphics field. It can represent an out-of-focused scene by calculating focal plane. When a point in a 3D coordinate lies on further or nearer than focal plane, the point is presented as a blurred circle on image plane according to the characteristic of the aperture and the lens. We can generate a realistic image by simulating the effect because it provides an out-of-focused scene like human eye dose. In this paper, we propose a method to calculate a disparity value of a viewer using a customized stereoscopic eye-tracking system and a GPU-based depth-of-field control method. They enable us to generate more realistic images reducing side effects such as dizziness. Since stereoscopic imaging system compels the users to fix their focal position, they usually feel discomfort during watching the stereoscopic images. The proposed method can reduce the side effect of stereoscopic display system and generate more immersive images.

Experimental study has been a general way to evaluate inlet and exhaust duct performances, but this is not only costly but also time consuming. Computational simulation is hence replacing experimental study and consequently time and cost saving. This paper therefore aims to investigate typical component performance of the intake and exhaust ducts using 3D representation. In this study a specific inlet and exhaust was modeled and analyzed to estimate its losses and flow field using computational fluid dynamic program with flow visualization capabilities. A process that requires geometry data to be modeled. That allowed for possibility of design trade off in designing phase. Installed performance of a specific turbo shaft engine was finally evaluated with the estimated inlet, exhaust and other accessories losses.
The study was to investigate an effect of students' learning for enhancing spatial ability, using a geometric manipulative recently designed. A mixed methodology was chosen to achieve the purpose of the study. To find students' achievement, 152 of the 8th graders in Kyunggi Do participated in data collection. At the same time. students' performance of the class was videotaped and analyzed to see students' responses, The results showed that the effect of using the manipulative was statistically significant at level, p<.05 to enhance the spatial ability. Specifically, in comparison of each component. spatial orientation was more effective than spatial visualization. In the spatial orientation, the part of field was more effective than the reorganized whole. It showed that students were given more opportunities to find mathematical properties and relations between 2nd and 3rd-dimensional figures through their intuitive observation, and also the manipulative helped the students find the property of the part of field because it gave an easy way to manipulate the property of the find parts of whole which was composed of the frame of the solid figures without surfaces. In using the manipulative, students were very flexible in finding the number of plane figures, but the relations between the 2nd and 3rd dimensional figures need to be clearly guided in consideration of the characteristics of the manipulative, based on the definitions of geometric properties(cf. points can make lines, not surfaces directly).
A validation of a 3D CFD model for predicting local subcooling of moderator in the vicinity of calandria tubes in a CANDU reactor is performed. The small scale moderator experiments performed at Sheridan Park Experimental Laboratory(SPEL) in Ontario, Canada[1] is used for the validation. Also a comparison is made between previous CFD analyses based on 2DMOTH and PHOENICS, and the current model analysis for the same SPEL experiment. For the current model, a set of grid structures for the same geometry as the experimental test section is generated and the momentum, heat and continuity equations are solved by CFX-4.3, a CFD code developed by AEA technology. The matrix of calandria tubes is simplified by the porous media approach. The standard $k-\varepsilon$ turbulence model associated with logarithmic wall treatment and SIMPLEC algorithm on the body fitted grid are used and buoyancy effects are accounted for by the Boussinesq approximation. For the test conditions simulated in this study, the flow pattern identified is a buoyancy-dominated flow, which is generated by the interaction between the dominant buoyancy force by heating and inertial momentum forces by the inlet jets. As a result, the current CFD moderator analysis model predicts the moderator temperature reasonably, and the maximum error against the experimental data is kept at less than $2.0^{\circ}C$ over the whole domain. The simulated velocity field matches with the visualization of SPEL experiments quite well.
One of recent trends in Web-based GIS is the system development using FOSS (Free and Open Source Software). Open Source software is independent from the technologies of commercial software and can increase the reusability and extensibility of existing systems. In this study, we developed a Web-based GIS for interactive visualization of geographic information using Google Earth and spatial DBMS(database management system). Google Earth Plug-in and Google Earth API(application programming interface) were used to embed a geo-browser in the Web browser. In order to integrate the Google Earth with a spatial DBMS, we implemented a KML(Keyhole Markup Language) generator for transmitting server-side data according to user's query and converting the data to a variety of KML for geovisualization on the Web. Our prototype system was tested using time-series of LAI(leaf area index), forest map, and crop yield statistics. The demonstration included the geovisualization of raster and vector data in the form of an animated map and a 3-D choropleth map. We anticipate our KML generator and system framework will be extended to a more comprehensive geospatial analysis system on the Web.

Since multi-view images can be utilized for 3D visualization and surveying as well, a system calibration is an essential procedure. The cameras in the system are mounted to the holder and their locations and attitudes are relatively fixed. Therefore, the locations and the attitudes of the perspective centers of the four oblique looking cameras can be calculated using the location and attitude of the nadir looking camera and the boresight values between the cameras. In this regard, this research is focusing on the analysis of the relative location and attitude between the nadir and oblique looking cameras based on the results of the exterior orientation parameters after the aerial triangulation of the real multiview images. We acquired high standard deviations of the relative locations between the nadir and oblique cameras. Standard deviations of the relative attitudes between the cameras were low when only the exterior orientations of the oblique looking cameras were allowed to be adjusted. Moreover, low standard deviations of the relative attitudes came when we considered not all the exterior orientations of the cameras but the attitudes of them only.

Aeroacoustic characteristics of sirocco fan used in Over-The-Range (OTR) has been analyzed in this paper. A microwave hood combination over the gas range is short for the OTR. The flow phenomena of the double-sided sirocco fan was analyzed numerically and experimentally by using commercial code and three dimensional PIV for flow visualization. Also, microphone array is used in order to understand acoustic characteristics of OTR. Two dimensional unsteady flow and acoustic simulation is tried to qualitatively estimate the effects of tonal noise and broadband noise on the overall sound pressure level. It is found that tonal sound is generated from the strong interaction between the impeller and cutoff while broadband sound is generated from the strong secondary flows along the scroll surface. To reduce the noise level, the V-shape cut-off was applied to improve the sound quality by reducing tonal noise. So the peak noise at BPF (Blade Passing Frequency) was almost reduced. The shape of flow-guide to suppress the secondary flow over the scroll surface was carefully checked. It is found that this affects flow pattern at the fan exit and reduces the broad band noise. Through this numerical and experimental study, the sound pressure level was lowered by 4dBA compared to that of the previous fan at the operating point.
