  • Alcaligenes sp. JMP228 carrying 2,4dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) degradative plasmid pJP4 was inoculated into natural soil, and transfer of the plasmid pJP4 to indigenous soil bacteria was investigated with and without 2,4-D amendment. Plasmid pJP4 transfer was enhanced in the soils treated with 2,4-D, compared to the soils not amended with 2,4-D. Several different transconjugants were isolated from the soils treated with 2,4-D, while no indigenous transconjugants were obtained from the unamended soils. Inoculation of the soils with both the donor Alcaligenes sp. JMP228/pJP4 and a recipient Burkholderia cepacia DBO 1 produced less diverse transconjugants than the soils inoculated with the donor alone. Repetitive extragenic palindromic-polymerase chain reaction (REP-PCR) analysis of the transconjugants exhibited seven distinct genomic DNA fingerprints. Analysis of 16S rDNA sequences indicated that the transconjugants were related to members of the genera Burkholderia and Pandoraea. Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) analysis of PCR-amplified 16S rRNA genes revealed that inoculation of the donor caused clear changes in the bacterial community structure of the 2,4-Damended soils. The new 16S rRNA gene bands in the DGGE profile corresponded with the 16S rRNA genes of 2,4-Ddegrading transconjugants isolated from the soil. The results indicate that introduction of the 2,4-D degradative plasmid as Alcaligenes sp. JMP228/pJP4 has a substantial impact on the bacterial community structure in the 2,4-D-amended soil.

  • A design of four-mirror optical system with reduction magnification 5X for deep UV ($\lambda$=248 nm of KrF excimer laser) submicron lithography is presented. Initially by using the paraxial quantities, the domain of solution for $t=d_1+d_2+d_3$<0 (d;: distance between the mirror $c_i$ and $c_{i+1}$ is found for the system which is free from the four off-axial Seidel first order aberrations that are coma, astigmatism, field curvature, and distortion. The solution with $d_5$=2.95 (normalized with respect to $c_i$= -1) is choosen and the aspherization is carried out to the spherical mirror surfaces ($c_3$ and $c_4$ in order to reduce the axial and residual off-axial higher order aberrations. The numerical aperture of the final system is as large as 0.4, which gives Rayleigh resolution of 0.38 $\mu\textrm{m}$.

  • In order to observe the effects of resistant starches on the physio-nutrition in women, nine female university students were investigated using cellulose (CED), resistant starch 3 (RS3D) and resistant starch 4 (RS4D) diets. Each woman's daily intake and excretions of energy, protein and lipid were mesured together with the apparent digestibility and the amounts of total cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol were measured. The results obtained from this researh are as follows. The daily energy intake were significantly higher in the RS4D (Resistant starch 4 diet) compared with the CED(Cellulose) and the RS3D (Resistant starch 3 diet). The metabolic energy in those periods with RS added to their diets were significantly higher whereas the metabolic energy in the period CED was significantly low. The daily protein intake was significantly higher in the RS4D compared with the CED and the RS3D. The apparent digestibility of protein was significantly higher in the RS4D compared with the CED and the RS3D. The daily lipid intake was significantly higher in the CED compared with the RS3D and the RS4D. The apparent digestibility of lipid was not significant in that period. The concentration of total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, % of HDL-cholesterol and atherogenic index (A.I.) were not significant in those period. As the above results indicate, while RS3 appear to have similar effect on energy consumption rate, apparent protein digestibility and content of cholesterol in plasma, compared with the CED, but energy consumption rate and apparent digestibility of protein are significantly higher in the RS4D compared with the CED. Thus, it appears that cellulose and RS 3 share similar effects on physio-nutrition in human, while RS4 does not have the similar effects. (Korean J Nutrition 35(9) : 932∼942, 2002)

  • A dual band I/Q modulator which converts baseband input signals to 2.4GHz or 5GHz RF output has been proposed. The dual band I/Q modulator for 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless LAN applications consists of $90^{\circ}$ phase shifter and wideband mixer. The I/Q modulator showed 15dB conversion loss at 2.4GHz and 16dB conversion loss at 5GHz. The sideband suppression is about 15dBc at 2.4GHz and 16dBc at 5GHz. Measured data shows 8.5% EVM at 2.4GHz, and 10% EVM at 5GHz for QPSK with symbol rate of 11Mbps. A carrier rejection is about 40dBc at 2.4GHz/5GHz band, and the I/Q modulator satisfied the output wireless LAN spectrum mask with baseband input signal.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the performance of 2,4-D amine salt (2,4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid) 40EC in broadleaf weeds control under diverse conditions of rate and time of application and soil type in fall barley field. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1) At the rate of 70cc prod./10a, 2,4-D amine salt treated during the fully tillered stage of barley was effective for the control of most broadleaf weeds without crop injury. 2) The fully tillered stage was a optimun time lot the application of 2,4-D amine salt in fall barley. Earlier(zero-to four-leaf stage) or late. (boot stage to flowering) application than this stage caused a crop injury and resulted in yield reduction. 3) It was possible to safely use 2,4-D amine salt in fall barley regardless of soil types if applied the rate of 70cc prod./10a at the fully tillered stage.
