Experimental Extraction of Effective Permittivity on the Structures of Coplanar Waveguides (코프래너 도파로 구조에서 S-파라메터를 이용한 유효유전상수 실험적 도출)

  • This paper proposed a very simple method of extracting an effective permittivity from the data of scattering parameters measured on the transmission line of coplanar waveguides in the frequency range of microwave or millimeter waves. This is an extracting method of an effective permittivity $\varepsilon$$_{eff}$ in the case of $\beta$$\ell$ =n$\pi$ (n=integer), where the value of S$_{11}$ changes abruptly following the operating frequency. The experimental value of the effective permittivity $\varepsilon$$_{eff}$ on a dielectric substrate of Rogers 4003$^{TM}$ material of $\varepsilon$$_{r}$ =3.38 showed the value of 2.042, which differs in the error of -3.4% to 8% from those calculated from the previously reported formulae. This result showed that the measurement method was very simple, as well as applied directly to the fabricated circuit patterns, even though the circuit patterns might be complicated or on the substrate of different dielectric materials.s.als.

  • This papper is concerned with robust design of a linear DC motor which is steading fast in OA and FA systems due to simplicity in structure high-speed operation and high-precision positioning. The approach is based on the Taguchi method and utilizes the orthogonal way for design of experiments. In this study, first, the important factors are chosen at first. and then the concept of signal-to-nose(S/N) ratio is allied to evaluate the motor performance and each value of the design parameters is determined. This method is useful to robust design in a short time. As a result, the performance of the motor is improved.

Estimation of Extreme Wind Speeds in Southern and Western Coasts by Typhoon Simulation (태풍 시뮬레이션을 통한 서남해안의 극한풍속 예측)

  • An updated Monte Carlo procedure for Typhoon simulation is presented to estimate the extreme wind speed at typhoon prone southern and western coasts in Korea. The reconstructed wind field model for typhoon in this study is compared with measured typhoon data for validation. The fitness of the proposed probability distribution models for typhoon parameters are tested by using data for the typhoon passed near the specific site. The simulated maximum wind speed associated with various return periods along southern and western coasts indicate that the extreme wind speed gradually increases inversely according to latitude of the coast, and that the basic wind speeds given in Korea Bridge Design Code are excessive compared with present results.

  • In this paper, we propose a new connection admission control(CAC) algorithm for traffic control in ATM network in which traffic estimation is performed based on user-specified parameters at every moment of connection request or connection release by recursive formula which makes real-time calculation possible. And traffic estimation using cell flow measurement is carried out when the number of connectioned calls does not change during a measurement reflection period. Performance analysis of the proposed method is carried out using several aspects for homogeneous and heterogeneous bursty traffic. The results showed that the proposed CAC method revealed better performance, than conventional CAC method for burst model in both utilization and QoS point of view.

  • This paper describes an IP design of a low-power microcontroller using an architecture level design methodology instead of a transistor level. To reduce switching capacitance, the register-toregister data transfer is adopted to frequently used register transfer micro-operations. Also, distributed buffers are proposed to reduce a input data rising edge time. To reduce power consumption without any loss of performance, pipeline processing should be used. In this paper, a 4-stage pipelined datapath being able to process CISC instructions is designed. Designed microcontroller lessens power consumption by 20%. To measure a power consumption, the SYNOPSYS EPIC powermill is used.

  • This paper presents a simulation model of the Quadrature detector to demodulate FSK signal, which is widely used in wireless paging system for its simple hardware implementation and economics of It fabrication. Quadrature detecter has nonlinear phase characteristic for changes linear changes of input signal frequency. So until now Quadrature detector system analysis remained a difficult problem and performance analysis has not been carried out adequately On these backgrounds, this paper presents the FSK signal demodulation process using Quadrature detector and optimal performance derived from digital simulation technique. First, PSN(Phase Shift Network) which is composed of analog RLC tank circuit is transformed into its equivalent digital transfer function using First-order-hold theorem. Though the demodulated outputs of the Quadrature detector for 4FSK are 4-level signals, only 2 comparators are used and it is shown that optimal performance can be obtained by choosing operation parameter Q value and threshold level decision which are proposed herein.

Low Resolution Infrared Image Deep Convolution Neural Network for Embedded System

  • In this paper, we propose reinforced VGG style network structure for low performance embedded system to classify low resolution infrared image. The combination of reinforced VGG style network structure and global average pooling makes lower computational complexity and higher accuracy. The proposed method classify the synthesize image which have 9 class 3,723,328ea images made from OKTAL-SE tool. The reinforced VGG style network structure composed of 4 filters on input and 16 filters on output from max pooling layer shows about 34% lower computational complexity and about 2.4% higher accuracy then the first parameter minimized network structure made for embedded system composed of 8 filters on input and 8 filters on output from max pooling layer. Finally we get 96.1% accuracy model. Additionally we confirmed the about 31% lower inference lead time in ported C code.

  • Purpose: We investigated the statistical methods to compose the functional brain map of human working memory and the principal factors that have an effect on the methods for localization. Materials and Methods: Repeated PET scans with successive four tasks, which consist of one control and three different activation tasks, were performed on six right-handed normal volunteers for 2 minutes after bolus injections of 925 MBq $H_2^{15}O$ at the intervals of 30 minutes. Image data were analyzed using SPM96 (Statistical Parametric Mapping) implemented with Matlab (Mathworks Inc., U.S.A.). Images from the same subject were spatially registered and were normalized using linear and nonlinear transformation methods. Significant difference between control and each activation state was estimated at every voxel based on the general linear model. Differences of global counts were removed using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) with global activity as covariate. Using the mean and variance for each condition which was adjusted using ANCOVA, t-statistics was performed on every voxel To interpret the results more easily, t-values were transformed to the standard Gaussian distribution (Z-score). Results: All the subjects carried out the activation and control tests successfully. Average rate of correct answers was 95%. The numbers of activated blobs were 4 for verbal memory I, 9 for verbal memory II, 9 for visual memory, and 6 for conjunctive activation of these three tasks. The verbal working memory activates predominantly left-sided structures, and the visual memory activates the right hemisphere. Conclusion: We conclude that rCBF PET imaging and statistical parametric mapping method were useful in the localization of the brain regions for verbal and visual working memory.

  • Blood Pressure is one of the most fundamental Parameters which reflects physical conditions medically and the blood pressure measurement system using oscillometric method is a Non-Invasive Blood Pressure measurement device by measuring arterial Pressure through a cuff. In this paper. we designed a inflatable wrist blood pressure system which measures blood Pressure during the stepping inflation in the wrist cuff. The hardware system consists of a main power unit, a bladder in cuff unit, signal detection units, signal Processing units. a wireless data transmission unit, and a data display unit. We evaluated the reliability of this system by comparing and analyzing systolic. diastolic blood Pressure, and heart rate with other commercial blood Pressure measurement devices. Characteristic ratio values used to determine systolic and diastolic blood Pressure using MAA(Maximum Amplitude Algorithm) were 0.436 and 0.671 respectively.

  • This study was presented how to interpret a laminated cylindrical shell having both ends supported condition are simple, and by identifying the three-dimensional stress characteristics. The governing equations were using the concept of finite element assuming the conversion into ordinary differential equations and partial differential equations by numerical analysis using the finite strip method. In particular, a function performed for the three-dimensional laminated cylindrical shell having a simple support condition were analyzed for the case composed of a specific function of the beam consisting of a trigonometric function. Layer material and layer thickness of a steel or concrete, the cylindrical length and the like by varying the parameters variously examine the effects of multi-layer cylindrical shell.
