APPROXIMATION ORDER OF C3 QUARTIC B-SPLINE APPROXIMATION OF CIRCULAR ARC

  • In this paper, we present a $C^3$ quartic B-spline approximation of circular arcs. The Hausdorff distance between the $C^3$ quartic B-spline curve and the circular arc is obtained in closed form. Using this error analysis, we show that the approximation order of our approximation method is six. For a given circular arc and error tolerance we find the $C^3$ quartic B-spline curve having the minimum number of control points within the tolerance. The algorithm yielding the $C^3$ quartic B-spline approximation of a circular arc is also presented.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of B4C or Y2O3 additives on the tendency of sintering, $\beta$-SiC synthesis and mineral phase changes by reaction bonding of SiC at 145$0^{\circ}C$. At the sintering temperature of 145$0^{\circ}C$, the additives such as B4C or Y2O3 did not improved porosity and bending strength. Added more than 1.5% of Y2O3, 0.5-0.3% of B4C, the formation of $\beta$-SiC was increased. At higher temperature above 145$0^{\circ}C$, it seems that the bodies added B4C, contained 3C form of SiC were denser than that of Y2O3 added. Because the transition of 3Clongrightarrow4Hlongrightarrow6H promoted sintering.

  • Magnetic characteristics of some anisotropic mischmetal- FeB- (Co,Ti,Al) permanent magnets have been investigated. The magnets were fabricated by using hot-pressed and die-upsetting. Hot-pressed $\textrm{(MM)}_{12.5}\textrm{Fe}_{71.9}\textrm{Co}_{5.0}\textrm{Al}_{2.0}\textrm{B}_{8.6}$ permanent magnet showed $\textrm{H}_{c}$=4.27 kOe, $\textrm{B}_{r}$=4.75 kG, $\textrm{(BH)}_{max}$=3.82 MGOe, and die- upset magnet showed $\textrm{H}_{c}$=3.10 kOe, $\textrm{B}_{r}$=5.58 kG, $\textrm{(BH)}_{max}$=5.34 MGOe, respectively. Hot-pressed $\textrm{(MM)}_{12.5}\textrm{Fe}_{77.9}\textrm{Ti}_{1.0}\textrm{B}_{8.6}$ permanent magnet showed $\textrm{H}_{c}$=3.75 kOe, $\textrm{B}_{r}$=4.64 kG, $\textrm{(BH)}_{max}$=2.78 MGOe, and die- upset magnet showed $\textrm{H}_{c}$=3.29 kOe, $\textrm{B}_{r}$=5.01 kG, $\textrm{(BH)}_{max}$=3.54 MGOe, respectively. X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy revealed that the higher energy products in the die-upset magnets results from alignment of the c-axis along the die-upsetting direction. The magnetic anisotropy in hot-pressed MM-FeB- Al magnet is increased by the substitution of Co for Fe.

A study on Improving Intermodulation Signal of the RF Power Amplifier Using Microwave Absorber (전파흡수체에 의한 전력증폭기의 혼변조 신호의 개선 효과에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, the 30 W power amplifier for an IMT-2000 repeater was developed a gain flatness and the third IMD (Intermodulation distortion) by microwave absorber. The absorption ability of the absorber is shown up to -10 dB and -4 dB at 3.6 GHz, 2.3 GHz band, respectively. The power amplifier without absorber has the gain over 57 dB, the gain flatness of $\pm$0.33 dB and the third IMD of 27 dBc at 33.3 W output. Otherwise, the power amplifier with absorber has the gain over 58 dB, the gain flatness of less than $\pm$0.9, the third IMD over 29 dBc at the same output power. As a result, the characteristic of the different type shows improvement of 1 dB in gain, 0.3 dB in gain flatness and 1.77 dBc in IMD.

Productivity and Costs of Felling Operation for Three Harvesting Methods in Mixed Forest Stands (임목수확방법별 벌도작업 생산성 및 비용 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to broaden our knowledge on the productivity and costs of felling operation in three different harvesting methods(whole tree, tree-length and cut-to-length). Felling was conducted in three different harvesting methods with two workers who have different work experiences. Worker A and B have had felling experiences for about 5 years and 15 years, respectively. Felling productivity in whole tree method was $10.3m^3/SMH$ for worker A and $12.7m^3/SMH$ for worker B. Felling costs for worker A and B were $2,066won/m^3$ and $2,201won/m^3$, respectively. Although felling productivity of worker B in whole tree method was higher than worker A, felling costs of worker A were similar to worker B because the wage of worker B was more expensive than the wage of worker A (p>0.05). In tree-length method, felling cost of worker B were cheaper than that of worker A. Felling productivity and cost in tree-length method were $2.2m^3/SMH$ and $9,890won/m^3$ for worker A and $3.3m^3/SMH$ and $8,459won/m^3$ for worker B, respectively (p<0.05). In cut-to-length method, felling productivity and cost were $2.3m^3/SMH$ and $9,584won/m^3$ for worker A and $3.0m^3/SMH$ and $9,395won/m^3$ for worker B, respectively. Felling productivity of worker B was higher than that of worker A(p>0.05). Our preliminary results found that harvesting methods and worker's experiences highly affect on the productivity and costs of felling operations. These results should be useful for forest managers when planning cost-effective harvesting operations.

Criticality benchmarking of ENDF/B-VIII.0 and JEFF-3.3 neutron data libraries with RMC code

  • New versions of ENDF/B and JEFF data libraries have been released during the past two years with significant updates in the neutron reaction sublibrary and the thermal neutron scattering sublibrary. In order to get a more comprehensive impression of the criticality quality of these two latest neutron data libraries, and to provide reference for the selection of the evaluated nuclear data libraries for the science and engineering applications of the Reactor Monte Carlo code RMC, the criticality benchmarking of the two latest neutron data libraries has been performed. RMC was employed as the computational tools, whose processing capability for the continuous representation ENDF/B-VIII.0 thermal neutron scattering laws was developed. The RMC criticality validation suite consisting of 116 benchmarks was established for the benchmarking work. The latest ACE format data libraries of the neutron reaction and the thermal neutron scattering laws for ENDF/B-VIII.0, ENDF/B-VII.1, and JEFF-3.3 were downloaded from the corresponding official sites. The ENDF/B-VII.0 data library was also employed to provide code-to-code validation for RMC. All the calculations for the four different data libraries were performed by using a parallel version of RMC, and all the calculated standard deviations are lower than 30pcm. Comprehensive analyses including the C/E values with uncertainties, the δk/σ values, and the metrics of χ2 and < |Δ| >, were conducted and presented. The calculated keff eigenvalues based on the four data libraries generally agree well with the benchmark evaluations for most cases. Among the 116 criticality benchmarks, the numbers of the calculated keff eigenvalues which agree with the benchmark evaluations within 3σ interval (with a confidence level of 99.6%) are 107, 109, 112, and 113 for ENDF/B-VII.0, ENDF/B-VII.1, ENDF/B-VIII.0 and JEFF-3.3, respectively. The present results indicate that the ENDF/B-VIII.0 neutron data library has a better performance on average.

The Optomotor Response of Crusian Carp and Goldfish in Accordance with the Colors of the Wall and the Stripes of the Visual Screen (시각막의 바탕과 줄무늬의 색상에 따른 붕어와 금붕어의 시각운동 반응)

  • The author carried out an experiment to find on the optomotor response of crusian carp, Carassius carassius and goldfish, Carassius auratus in accordance with the colors of the wall and the stripes labeled on the revolving visual screen. The results are as follows; 1. The optomotor response rate of crusian carp was 80% or more in case of B-Y, R-Bl and W-Bl pair of colors, and 50% or less in case of Bl-B, B-Bl, R-W, R-Y, W-Y and Y-W pair. 2. The optomotor response rate of goldfish was 80% or more in all except B-Bl, W-R and W-Y pair. 3. Mean round number of crusian carp was 7.5-9.5 revolutions in case of W-Bl, Y-Bl, W-B and Y-B pair, and 1.8-3.9 revolutions in case of Bl-B, Bl-Y, B-Bl, B-R, R-All and Y-W pair for 3 minutes. 4. Mean rounded number of goldfish was only 4.1-4.9 revolutions in case of W-Bl, W-B and Y-B pair for 3 minutes.

The Design of a Wideband 3 dB Quadrature Coupler using N-Section Parallel-Coupled Lines (N단 평행 결합 선로를 이용한 90° 광대역 3 dB 결합기 설계)

  • In this paper, we proposed a 3 dB coupler using N-section parallel-coupled lines and designed a very compact one based on the analysis results. The coupled line has been analyzed by spectral domain method. After we obtain the s-parameters of N-section parallel-coupled lines by using port reduction method 4-port s-parameters are derived. The 3 dB couplers, which were fabricated, are not necessary to implement high impedance lines and tight coupling gaps as Lange Couplers because loose coupling is used. To realize a minimum section, we used the PCB that has high a dielectric constant and a thickness. The experimental results show that it has wide bandwidth of about 42 %(0.5 dB unbalance) from 3.6 GHz to 5.5 GHz and phase difference within 1 degree. Also, The isolation characteristics about 15 dB at its pass-band are obtained.

The study on pharmacologic activation as cosmetic material of Sanguisorbae radix (지유(地榆)의 화장품 소재로서의 약리활성에 관한 연구)

  • Objectives : This study was aimed at producing emulsion by using butanol fractions of Sanguisorbae radix(SRA-B) which have high antioxidative and anti-inflammatory actions, and then evaluating stabilities of the emulsion. Methods : We measured antioxidant efficacy of SRA-B by using DPPH assay. Also, we checked the expressions of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) by using the Western blot to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effects of SRA-B3. We prepared emulsion containing SRA-B3(E-SRA-B3) and analysed its particle size distribution under a microscope. Also, we performed the test for stability of the emulsion. Results : SRA-B3 showed the highest efficacy in electronic donating abilities' activity. The Western blot's results indicated that the protein expression's amount of iNOS and COX-2 in macrophage stimulated by LPS were reduced by SRA-B3 treatment. The average particle size of E-SRA-B3 was $5{\sim}6{\mu}m$ in diameter and was $6.7{\mu}m$ in a view of the particle distribution. For a period of a observation, E-SRA-B3 has not made particular changes with storage temperature. It was observed that E-SRA-B3 could preserve its stable condition without a particular difference of viscosity during 28 days. Conclusions : From the above results, it was confirmed that SRA-B3 has potentiality enough to be applied to industrialization and could be utilized as antioxidative natural materials and anti-inflammatory cosmetics.
