  • This paper presents a new method for reconstructing 3 dimensional object model using a zoom camera. The proposed method uses zoom images to find the distance(D) between camera and object. Also the method uses images obtained around the object to find an $angle(\theta)$ between two connected planes of the object. With the D and $\theta,$ we can reconstruct the real sized 3-D model of object with less errors without stereo camera or rangefinder.

  • A parallel looking stereo camera was mainly used as an input sensor for digital image processing, image understanding and the extraction of 3 dimensional information. Theoretical analysis and performance evaluation are dealt in this paper for a convergent looking stereo camera model having a fixation point with the result of crossing optical axes. The quantization error, depth resolution and equidepth map due to digital pixels, and the misalignments effects of pan, tilt and roll angles are analyzed by using rhe relationship between the reference and image coordinate systems. Also horopter, epipolar lines, probability density functions of the depth error, and stereo fusion areas for the two camera models are discussed.

  • An image acquisition by using an optical mirror is called as a catadioptric method. The catadioptric imaging method is generally used for acquisition of 360-degree all directional visual information in an image. An exemplar omnidirectional optical mirror is the bowl-shaped hyperbolic mirror. In this paper, a single camera omnidirectional stereo imaging method is studied with an additional concave lens. It is possible to obtain 3 dimensional coordinates of environmental objects from the omnidirectional stereo image by matching the stereo image having different view points. The omnidirectional stereo imaging system in this paper is cost-effective and relatively easy for correspondence matching because of consistent camera intrinsic parameters in the stereo image. The parameters of the imaging system are extracted through 3-step calibration and the performance for 3-dimensional coordinates reconstruction is verified through experiments in this paper. Measurable range of the proposed imaging system is also presented by depth-resolution analysis.

  • In this study, a novel method for dimension measurement of large-scale moving objects using stereo camera with 2-degree of freedom (2-DOF) mechanism is presented. The proposed method utilizes both the advantages of stereo vision technique and the enlarged visibility range of camera due to 2-DOF rotary mechanism in measuring large-scale moving objects. The measurement system employs a stereo camera combined with a 2-DOF rotary mechanism that allows capturing separate corners of the measured object. The measuring algorithm consists of two main stages. First, three-dimensional (3-D) positions of the corners of the measured object are determined based on stereo vision algorithms. Then, using the rotary angles of the 2-DOF mechanism the dimensions of the measured object are calculated via coordinate transformation. The proposed system can measure the dimensions of moving objects with relatively slow and steady speed. We showed that the proposed system guarantees high measuring accuracy with some experiments.

  • In the closed range space, the parallel two CCD cameras are used to acquire a pair of stereo image. The acquired stereo image are computed with Wavelet Transform repeatedly and including the low frequency component, the image size of those are reduced. It is the pyramid structure. The optimum matching point is searched to the pixel. Then appling the optimum matching point to DLT, it extract the three - dimensional surface coordinate from a stereo image. The direct linear transformation(DLT) method is used to calibrate the stereo camera compute the coordinate on a three dimensional space. To find the parameters for the DLT method, 30 control points which marked on the cylinder type object are used. To improve the matching algorithm, the paper select the pyramid structure for Wavelet Transform. The acquired disparity information is used to represent the really three-dimensional surface coordinate.

  • In this paper, an estimation of person height and 3D location of a moving person by using the pan/tilt-embedded stereo tracking system is suggested and implemented. In the proposed system, face coordinates of a target person is detected from the sequential input stereo image pairs by using the YCbCr color model and phase-type correlation methods and then, using this data as well as the geometric information of the stereo tracking system, distance to the target from the stereo camera and 3-dimensional location information of a target person are extracted. Basing on these extracted data the pan/tilt system embedded in the stereo camera is controlled to adaptively track a moving person and as a result, moving trajectory of a target person can be obtained. From some experiments using 780 frames of the sequential stereo image pairs, it is analyzed that standard deviation of the position displacement of the target in the horizontal and vertical directions after tracking is kept to be very low value of 1.5, 0.42 for 780 frames on average, and error ratio between the measured and computed 3D coordinate values of the target is also kept to be very low value of 0.5% on average. These good experimental results suggest a possibility of implementation of a new stereo target tracking system having a high degree of accuracy and a very fast response time with this proposed algorithm.

  • This study is devoted to the detection of the 3-dimensional point obstacles on the plane by using accumulated scan line images. The proposed accumulating only one scan line allow to process image at real time. And the change of motion of the feature in image is small because of the short time between image frames, so it does not take much time to track features. To obtain recursive optimal obstacles position and robot motion along to the motion of camera, Kalman filter algorithm is used. After using Kalman filter in case of the fixed environment, 3-dimensional obstacles point map is obtained. The position and motion of moving obstacles can also be obtained by pre-segmentation. Finally, to solve the stereo ambiguity problem from multiple matches, the camera motion is actively used to discard mis-matched features. To get relative distance of obstacles from camera, parallel stereo camera setup is used. In order to evaluate the proposed algorithm, experiments are carried out by a small test vehicle.

  • A stereo vision analysis was performed for motion and depth control of unmanned vehicles. In stereo vision, the depth information in three-dimensional coordinates can be obtained by triangulation after identifying points between the stereo image. However, there are always triangulation errors due to several reasons. Such errors in the vision triangulation can be alleviated by careful arrangement of the camera position and orientation. In this paper, an approach to the determination of the optimal position and orientation of camera is presented for unmanned vehicles.

  • For camera calibration, a checkerboard is generally used to determine the principal point, focal length, and lens distortions. The checkerboard has a planar and three-dimensional shape, and camera calibration parameters are affected by the size of the checkerboard, the placement of the target, and the number of target points. In this study, the accuracies of the types of checkerboards were compared using checkpoints for stereo camera calibration, and the purpose of this study was to propose the best performance checkerboard. The checkerboard with large flat shape showed comparatively high accuracy through comparison with the check points. However, due to the size of the checkerboard, it was inconvenient to move and rotate, and there was a disadvantage in that it was difficult to shoot so that the target points could all appear in the stereo camera. The checkerboard, which was manufactured in a small size in a flat shape, was easy to move and rotate but had the lowest three-dimensional accuracy. The checkerboard with targets with height values had the hassle of having to determine the three-dimensional coordinates of the target points by using observation equipment for camera calibration, but it was small in size, convenient to move and rotate, and showed the highest three-dimensional accuracy.
