3D scan technology can utilize real spatial information as it is in virtual space, so it can be usefully used in various fields such as reverse engineering of buildings and process management. Recently, with the development of ICT technology, more precise scan data can be obtained, and scan processing time has also been greatly reduced. In addition, the combination of software and scanning equipment used in 3D scanning technology is very diverse, and results are very different depending on which technology is used. Accordingly, there is a problem that it is difficult for a user who has no experience in 3D scanning technology to determine which technology and equipment should be used to obtain good results. In this study, 3D scan technologies mainly used at home and abroad are investigated, classified, and tested at actual construction sites to suggest considerations and suitable 3D scan methods when using 3D scans in construction sites. The test results were analyzed to evaluate the time it takes to scan, the final quality, and the user's convenience according to each technology method.

A novel 3D tube scanning technique is proposed. The proposed tube scanning technique is developed for a special tube inspection module which consists of four line-lasers and one camera. Using the scanning module, we can reconstruct the 360 degree shapes of the inner surfaces of a cylindrical tube. From an image frame captured by the camera, we reconstruct a partial tube model based on four laser triangulations. Then by aligning such partial models with respect to a reference tube axis, a complete 3D shape of the tube is reconstructed. The tube axis in each reconstructed frame is aligned with a 3D Euclidean transformation to the reference axis. Several experiments show that the proposed method can align multiple tube axes very accurately and reconstruct 3D shapes of a tube with very low shape distortion.
We first review a real-time three-dimensional (3-D) holographic recording technique called optical scanning holography (OSH) and discuss holographic reconstruction using spatial light modulators (SLMs). We then present how the overall system can be used for 3-D holographic television (TV) display with a wide-angle view of a 3-D image, and address some of the issues encountered. Finally, we suggest some techniques to alleviate the issues encountered in such a 3-D holographic TV system.

Recently, many industries are using three dimensional scanning technology. As the performance of the 3D scanner gradually improves, a sampling step to reduce a point data or a remove step to remove a part determined to be noise are generally performed in post processing. However, total point data by long time scanning cannot be processed at once in spite of performing such those additional processes. In general, a method using a multi threaded environment is widely used, but as the scanning process work time increases, the processing performance gradually decreases due to various environmental conditions and accumulated operations. This paper proposes a method to initially remove point data judged to be unnecessary by calculating accumulated fast point feature histogram values from coming point data of the 3D scanner in real time. The entire 3D scanning process can be reduced using this approach.
Reverse Engineering has wasted high cost and much of time because there were few softwares for supporting post-process of 3D scanning efficiently. However today Reverse Engineering is attracted by various researchers on a count of its practical use and gradually improved quality. Accordingly, many industries induce the technology of Reverse Engineering. For keeping with this general trend, the algorithms of generating meshes from 3D scanning data and visualizing their cross section are suggested in this research. It is expected that output data from the algorithms can be used in inspecting errors between product designs and their final products, and in finding a way to improve quality by considering ideal model data.

Seonunsa Temple is a site of Dancheong cultural significance in Daewoongjeon. Three-dimensional (3D) scanning can be used to create a simulation in 1:1 ratio without touching the Dancheong patterns directly. The traditional method of recreating Dancheong was paining with tracing paper using a fix pin. However, manual direct copy processes can cause and damage to the objects. This study shows the results of a simulation of a tranditional Dancheong patterns as an alternative; the simulation was able to reduce dimensional errors and prevent damage by using 3D scanning. As a result, objective and precise proportions of the simulation were acquired. The 3D scanning method may be applied for work such as the replication and restoration of the drawing, 3D fabrication of the original data, and printing of the additional drawing. In addition, with the production of 3D materials, a virtual museum is possible.

In the field of construction, research on smart construction technology is being actively pursued as a measure to increase productivity and efficiency. The technology that links 3D scanning and BIM of smart construction technology is in the limelight as a technology for checking the state of buildings in the field of architecture. It is thought that these techniques will be of great help in solving problems when the amount of inspection targets is large, such as confirmation of the rebar arrangement intervals, and therefore a large number of human resources are required. Therefore, in this study, we would like to apply 3D scanning to rebar construction to confirm whether the rebar arrangement can be confirmed according to the design drawing. In the study, the wall rebar of the rebar placed at the actual construction site was directly scanned to extract data, and the rebar placing status was confirmed through type analysis. As a result of analyzing the reinforcing bar arrangement state based on the data obtained by 3D scanning, it was found that the technology can be utilized.

Unlike for other building processes, BIM for earthwork does not need a large variety of 3D model shapes; however, it requires a 3D model that can efficiently reflect the changing features of the ground shape and provide soil type-dependent workload calculation and information on equipment for optimal management. Objects for earthwork have not yet been defined because the current BIM system does not provide them. The BIM technology commonly applied in the manufacturing center uses real-object data obtained through 3D scanning to generate 3D parametric solid models. 3D scanning, which is used when there are no existing 3D models, has the advantage of being able to rapidly generate parametric solid models. In this study, A method to generate 3D models for earthwork operations using reverse engineering is suggested. 3D scanning is used to create a point cloud of a construction site and the point cloud data are used to generate a surface model, which was then converted into a parametric model with 3D objects for earthwork
Three-dimensional(3D) virtual clothing simulation system may require the use of physical, mechanical, and configurational data in order to mimic the actual clothing with high degree of realism. Therefore the 3-dimensional scanning system based on optical methods was adopted to extract the 3-dimensional data of the fabric surface. In this study, the appearances of the 3-dimensionally transformed textile fabrics via several finishing procedures were investigated using a 3D scanning system. The wool gauze fabrics treated with the shrink-proof finishing and the felting process showed height changes up to 4.5mm. The 3-dimensional configuration may be objectively described by the use of mesh generation from the scanned output. The generated mesh information may further be utilized in the 3D virtual clothing simulation system for accurate description of the fashionable textile materials used in the simulation system.

This paper proposes a portable 3-D scanning technique using a laser pointer. 3-D scanning is a process that acquires surface information from an 3-D object. There have been many studies on 3-D scanning. The methods of 3-D scanning are summarized into some methods based on multiple cameras, line lasers, and light pattern recognition. However, those methods has major disadvantages of their high cost and big size for portable appliances such as smartphones and digital cameras. In this paper, a 3-D scanning system using a low-cost and small-sized laser pointer are introduced to solve the problems. To do so, we propose a 3-D localization technique for a laser point. The proposed method consists of two main parts; one is a fast recognition of input images to obtain 2-D information of a point laser and the other is calibration based on the least-squares technique to calculate the 3-D information overall. To verified our method, we carry out experiments. It is proved that the proposed method provides 3-D surface information although the system is constructed by extremely low-cost parts such a chip laser pointer, compared to existing methods. Also, the method can be implemented in small-size; thus, it is enough to use in mobile devices such as smartphones.
