A pressure measurement system was developed to verify magnitude and position of transferred pressure on the body surface during the intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) which is one of the most well-known methods for the prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Eighty force sensing resistors (FSR) were arranged on a mannequin leg and a hardware controller sensed, digitized, and transferred pressure data every second while IPC was being applied. Finally, sensed pressure data were color coded and visualized on the 3D model with lab-developed software. The pressure data were also saved to files for further analysis. Using this measurement system, the changing pattern of pressure was measured on the mannequin leg by changing both chamber pressure and cuff tightness. As a result, net pressure transferred onto the body surface is dependent on chamber pressure and cuff tightness. Under the same chamber pressure, the tighter a cuff was worn, the wider compressed area was and the shorter compression cycle was. Also transferred pressure was proportional to both chamber pressure and cuff tightness.

If reinforced concrete beam exists crack, ultimate shear transfer strength and shear hardness of section with crack substantially decrease. In this study , five model beams were designed for the objective of clarfying contributions of three shear resistant elements : the compression zone of concrete, dowel action of tension reinforcement, aggregate interlock across cracks, The shear force carried by each resistant element was calculated from the detailed strain data on the contributions to the shear capacity of beams of the shear forces carried by the other three resistant element. The test result follows : 1) Compression zone of concrete (C)-56.2%, 2) Dowel action of tension reinforcement (D)-18.0%, 3)Aggregate Interlock(A)-25.8%.
Statement of problem : Fracture and dimensional change of an acrylic resin denture are a rather common occurrence. Purpose : The purpose of this study was to compare differences in dimensional changes and flexural strength of separate maxillary complete dentures after immediate deflasking by injection molding and conventional compression processing. Material and method: To evaluate dimensional stability, the maxillary dentures were fabricated by using different materials and methods. Lucitone 199(Dentsply Trubyte. york, pennsylvania, USA) and Vertex(Dentimex, zeist, Netherlands) were used as materials. Compression and injection packing methods were used as processing methods. The impression surface of the dentures was measured by 3D Scann-ing System(PERCEPTRON USA) and overlapped original impression surface of the master cast. To evaluate flexural strength, resin specimens were made according to the different materials, powder/liquid ratio and processing methods. Flexural strength of the complete resin specimens (64mm$\times$10mm$\times$3.3mm) were measured by INSTRON 4467. (INSTRON, England) The data was analyzed by ANOVA, t-test and Tukey test. (p<.05 level of significance) Result: The results were as follows 1. There was no significant differences between master model and denture base for each group in overall dimensional changes. 2. Palatal area was more stable than flange or alveolar area in dimensional stability. but. there was no significant differences among each area. 3. Materials and power/liquid ratio had an effect on flexural strength. (P<.05) Especially materials was most effective. (P<.05) 4. Lucitone 199(powder/liquid ratio followed by manufacturer's direction) showed higher flexural strength than Vertex. Conclusion : Dimensional stability or flexural strength are affected by materials rather than packing techniques.
In 2017, an intraplate earthquake of Mw 7.1 occurred 120 km from Mexico City (CDMX). Most collapsed structural buildings stroked by the earthquake were flat slab systems joined to reinforced concrete (RC) columns, unreinforced masonry, confined masonry, and dual systems. This article presents the simulated response of an actual six-story RC frame building with masonry infill walls that did not collapse during the 2017 earthquake. It has a structural system similar to that of many of the collapsed buildings and is located in a high seismic amplification zone. Five 3D numerical models were used in the study to model the seismic response of the building. The building dynamic properties were identified using an ambient vibration test (AVT), enabling validation of the building's finite element models. Several assumptions were made to calibrate the numerical model to the properties identified from the AVT, such as the presence of adjacent buildings, variations in masonry properties, soil-foundation-structure interaction, and the contribution of non-structural elements. The results showed that the infill masonry wall would act as a compression strut and crack along the transverse direction because the shear stresses in the original model (0.85 MPa) exceeded the shear strength (0.38 MPa). In compression, the strut presents lower stresses (3.42 MPa) well below its capacity (6.8 MPa). Although the non-structural elements were not considered to be part of the lateral resistant system, the results showed that these elements could contribute by resisting part of the base shear force, reaching a force of 82 kN.
The Busan area in the northeastern part of the Ogcheon metamorphic zone, Korea, consists mainly of Precambrian Busan and Bakdallyeong gneiss complexes, Ogcheon metamorphic rocks and Mesozoic granitoids. The Busan gneiss complex shows Heart-shaped distribution laying down eastward, and is surrounded by the Ogcheon metamorphic rocks in the central part of the Busan area. In this study structural examination on the main constituent rocks (Busan gneiss complex and Ogcheon metamorphic rocks) was conducted to clarify the geological structure of the Ogcheon metamorphic zone in the Busan area. It indicates that the geological structure was formed at least by three phases of deformation. (1) Dl deformation: the formative period of the structural units of WNW trend (Sanjeoteo, Busan-II, Busan-I, and Chungiu nappes) and the mylonitic foliations related to the compression of NNE-SSW direction, (2) D2 deformation: the differential E-W shortening and N-S extension period of the structural units of WNW trend related to the compression of E-W or WNW-ESE directions, (3) D3 deformation: the formative period of the kink or open folds of E-W trend related to the compression of N-S direction in the eastern and southern parts of Busan area where the structural units of N-S or NNE trends reoriented owing to the intense D2 deformation were developed. These three phases of deformation are closely connected with the distribution of the structural units and the Heart-shaped Busan gneiss complex laying down eastward, and in this paper a new geodynamic model to the Heart-shaped Busan gneiss complex is suggested: Dl deformation-the zonal distribution of WNW trend with a constant width, D2 deformation - the formation of convex wedges northeastward and southward, D3 deformation - the formation of concave wedge westward.
A theoretical energy-based model to capture the mechanical response of thick woven composite laminates, which are used in such applications as maritime or aerospace, to high-velocity impact was developed. The dependences of the impact phenomenon on material and geometrical parameters were analysed making use of the Vaschy-Buckingham Theorem to provide a non-dimensional framework. The model was divided in three different stages splitting the physical interpretation of the perforation process: a first where different dissipative mechanisms such as compression or shear plugging were considered, a second where a transference of linear momentum was assumed and a third where only friction took place. The model was validated against experimental data along with a 3D finite element model. The numerical simulations were used to validate some of the new hypotheses assumed in the theoretical model to provide a more accurate explanation of the phenomena taking place during a high-velocity impact.
Numerical simulations by three-dimensional Particle Flow Code($PFC^{3D}$, Itasca) considering distinct element method (DEM) were carried out for prediction of triaxial compression test with sand material. The effect of scale conditions for numerical model and distinct material on final prediction results was analyzed by numerical models under various scale conditions, and following observations were made from the numerical experiments. It is very useful to model the initial material condition without any porosity conversion from 2-D to 3-D DEM. Numerical experiments have shown that in all cases considered, 3D distinct element modeling could provide good agreement on stress-strain behavior, volume change and strength properties with laboratory testing results. It was important thing to assess reasonable scale ratio of numerical model and distinct elements for saving calculation time and securing calculation efficiency under condition with accuracy and appropriateness as numerical laboratory. As results of DEM simulations under various scale conditions, most of results show that shear strength properties as cohesion and internal friction angle are similar in condition of $D_{mod}/D_{gmax}$ < 10. It shows that 3-D distinct element method could be used as efficient tool to assess strength properties by numerical laboratory technique.

This paper introduces a 3D perceptual model based on JND(Just Noticeable Difference) and proposes a video watermarking scheme which is perceptual approach of adaptive embedding in 3D-DCT domain. Videos are composed of consecutive frames with many similar adjacent frames. If a watermark is embedded in the period of similar frames with little motion, it can be easily noticed by human eyes. Therefore, for the transparency the watermark should be embedded into some places where motions exist and for the robustness its magnitude needs to be adjusted properly. For the transparency and the robustness, watermark based on 3D perceptual model is utilized. That is. the sensitivities from the 3D-DCT quantization are derived based on 3D perceptual model, and the sensitivities of the regions having more local motion than global motion are adjusted. Then the watermark is embedded into visually significant coefficients in proportion to the strength of motion in 3D-DCT domain. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme improves the robustness to MPEG compression and temporal attacks by about $3{\sim}9\%$, compared to the existing 3D-DCT based method. In terms of PSNR, the proposed method is similar to the existing method, but JND guarantees the transparency of watermark.

Breast cancer is the most frequently appearing cancer in women, these days. To reduce mortality of breast cancer, periodic check-up is strongly recommended. X-ray mammography is one of powerful diagnostic imaging systems to detect 50~100 um micro-calcification which is the early sign of breast cancer. Although x-ray mammography has very high spatial resolution, it is not easy yet to distinguish cancerous tissue from normal tissues in mammograms and new tissue characterizing methods are required. Recently ultrasound elastography technique has been developed, which uses the phenomenon that cancerous tissue is harder than normal tissues. However its spatial resolution is not enough to detect breast cancer. In order to develop a new elastography system with high resolution we are developing x-ray elasticity imaging technique. It uses the small differences of tissue positions with and without external breast compression and requires an algorithm to detect tissue displacement. In this paper, computer simulation is done for preliminary study of x-ray elasticity imaging. First, 3D x-ray breast phantom for modeling woman's breast is created and its elastic model for FEM (finite element method) is generated. After then, FEM experiment is performed under the compression of the breast phantom. Using the obtained displacement data, 3D x-ray phantom is deformed and the final mammogram under the compression is generated. The simulation result shows the feasibility of x-ray elasticity imaging. We think that this preliminary study is helpful for developing and verifying a new algorithm of x-ray elasticity imaging.

The recent LCD TV market has made efforts to produce thinner, brighter, and clearer products, and experienced the rapid light source replacement from a line source of light CCFL to a point source of light LED. In particular, LGP(Light Guiding Panel) among key parts composing BLU(Back Light Unit) has limits of the injection molding technology as well as the mold design, its processing and manufacturing technology so that it is hard to produce large LGP over 40 inch. To produce large light-guide panels over 40 inch under the injection molding process, a mold 3D model was developed in the design process before manufacturing a mold and structure unification was processed through CAE analysis. As a result, it was possible to construct the mold design process, and it is expected to manufacture the optimized mold by applying the mold design and manufacturing process of large-scale rapid injection-compression molding that will be produced in the future.
