Effect of the pore size in a 3D bioprinted gelatin scaffold on fibroblast proliferation

  • Significant efforts have been applied toward fabricating three-dimensional (3D) scaffolds using 3D-bioprinting tissue engineering techniques. Gelatin has been used in 3D-bioprinting to produce designed 3D scaffolds; however, gelatin has a poor printability and is not useful for fabricating desired 3D scaffolds using 3D-bioprinting. In this study, we fabricated pore size controlled 3D gelatin scaffolds with two step 3D-bioprinting approach: a low-temperature ($-10^{\circ}C$) freezing step and a crosslinking process. The scaffold was crosslinked with 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-carbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC) and N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS). The pore sizes of the produced 3D gelatin scaffolds were approximately 30% smaller than the sizes of the designed pore sizes. The surface morphologies and pore sizes of the 3D gelatin scaffolds were confirmed and measured using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs) were cultured on a 3D gelatin scaffold to evaluate the effect of the 3D gelatin scaffold pore size on the cell proliferation. After 14 days of culture, HDFs proliferation throughout the 3D gelatin scaffolds prepared with more than $580{\mu}m$ pore size was approximately 14% higher than proliferation throughout the 3D gelatin scaffold prepared with a $435{\mu}m$ pore size. These results suggested that control over the 3D gelatin scaffold pore size is important for tissue engineering scaffolds.

  • Embryogenic callus induces from shoot tip and leaf segment of Zanthoxylum piperitum for producing somatic embryogenesis and plant regeneration were cultured in vitro on Murashige and Tucker's(MT) medium treated with casein hydrolysate $NH_4NO_3$, $KNO_3$ and plant growth regulator. The most effective somatic embryogensis was observed in the medium added by two fold $NH_4NO_3$(3300mg/l)+2. 4-D 0.1mg/l and $KNO_3$(3800mg/l)+2.4-D 0.1mg/l. Also, MT medium supplemented with casein hydrolysate 700mg/l added by 2, 4-D 0.1mg/l were effective in obtainingn somatic embryos from embryogenic callus The effect ofm MT medium supplemented with casein hydrolysate without 2, 4-D was lower than that with (3300mg/l) 2, 4-D for the formation of somatic embryos.

Influence of Gaming Display and Wearing Glasses on Perceived Characteristics, Presence, and Fatigue (게임 디스플레이 종류와 안경착용 여부에 따른 영상의 인지된 특성, 프레즌스 그리고 피로도의 차이)

  • 3D images and videos are required viewers to wear 3D glasses. According to the data, about half of Korean people wear glasses or contact lens and this implies 3D video viewers may have a trouble due to putting a pair of 3D glasses atop their glasses. The purpose of this study is to examine gamers' perceived characteristics, presence, and fatigue according to video gaming display (2D vs. 3D) and glasses whether wearing or not. The results show that the interaction effect of the display and wearing glasses was statistically significant in the perceived presence, and the main effect of the display was statistically significant in the perceived characteristics and fatigue.

  • In this study, we examine the effect of TRIPS on the relationship between R&D expenditures and patent applications in manufacturing firms. The first set of tests examines the association between patent applications and R&D expenditures and firm specific factors such as firm size and capital intensity. The next set of tests adds environmental factors including R&D intensity of the industry and development of TRIPS. We divide the sample period into three subperiods according to the progress of TRIPS subperiod 1(1984-1988) before TRIPS, subperiod 2(1989-1994) after negotiation of TRIPS and subperiod 3(1995-2000) after agreement on TRIPS. Regression model reveals that the coefficient on firm size is significantly positive over the all sample Period, while that of R&D expenditures of R&D intensive firms is significantly positive in subperiod 2 and 3(1989-2000) and that of capital intensity is significantly negative only in subperiod 3(1995-2000). The findings suggest that the efficient intellectual property system promotes the patent application of R&D intensive firms.

Effect of DHEA Administration before, during and after Dexamethasone Treatment on Body Weight and Mass of TypeI,II Muscles in Rats (DHEA의 투여 시기가 Dexamethasone 치료 쥐의 체중과 TypeI,II 근육무게에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was to determine the effect of DHEA administration before, during, and after dexamethasone treatment on body weight and TypeI,II muscle weight of rat receiving dexamethasone treatment. Method: Wistar rats were divided into 6 groups: control(C), dexamethasone(D), DHEA administration for 3days after dexamethasone treatment for 7days(7D+3DH), dexamethasone treatment for 7days after DHEA administration for 3days(3DH+7D), DHEA administration during dexamethasone treatment for 4days after dexamethasone treatment for 3days(3D+4DDH), DHEA administration during dexamethasone treatment for 7days(7DDH). Dexamethasone was injected by subcutaneously daily at a dose of 5mg/kg. DHEA was orally administered daily at a dose of 5mg/kg for 7 days. Soleus(TypeI) muscle, and both plantaris and gastro- cnemius(TypeII) muscles were dissected on the 7th day of experiment. Result: Body weight of both 3DH+7D group and 3D+4DDH group increased significantly compared with that of 7D group. Body weight of 7D+3DH group decreased significantly compared with that of 7D group, 7DDH group, 3DH+7D group and 3D+4DDH group. Muscle weight of both plantaris and gastro- cnemius tended to decrease compared with that of 7D group. Muscle weight of 7DDH group, 3D+4DDH group and 3DH+7D group increased significantly compared with that of 7D+3DH group. Muscle weight of gastrocnemius of both 3DH+7D group and 3D+4DDH group increased significantly compared with that of 7D group. Conclusion: Based on these results, it can be suggested that DHEA administration before and during dexamethasone treatment can increase both body weight and mass of atrophied TypeII muscle induced by dexa- methasone treatment.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the problem of existing stop motion animation and to apply 3D printer technology and computer special effect technology applied with latest technology as a solution to solve this problem. For this purpose, we review the history of stop motion animation and confirm how the technology applied to stop motion animation through previous research. As a result, we have overcome limitations of the existing stop motion animation limited to the cline cloth in terms of expression by using 3D printer like recently released and . Furthermore, the natural phenomenon, which is the biggest limitation of stop motion animation, was able to produce a unique work of stop motion animation rather than computer special effect processing. Therefore, in the stop-motion animation, the acceptance of 3D printer technology and computer special effects technology has enabled unlimited imagination and original expression. Recent technology-based stop-motion animation is expected to provide the foundation for the continued development of the animation field in the future.

  • In this paper, the construction of secondary reaction plate is analyzed by 3-D Finite Element Method(3-D FEM) to consider the influence of its variation on the transverse edge effect of LIM. The effective 3-D analysis model for considering the transverse edge effect caused by the finite widths of the primary and the secondary is proposed. The simple method measuring the transverse edge effect by using the patterns of currents induced in the secondary reaction plate is also proposed. With this effective analysis method, various models of secondary reaction plate with overhang and cap has been analyzed to consider the relationship between the construction of secondary reaction plate and the transverse edge effect of LIM.

  • Quilting, a technique to join two or more layers of fabrics, has long been used in the textile and fashion sectors. To evaluate dimensional effect of quilting that changes according to the characteristics of fabrics, 3D scanning method is employed in this study. Goal of this study is to interpret how fabric's composition, stiffness, thickness, and weight affect the appearance when quilted fabrics are used in a garment. Surface reconstruction method based on 3D scanning is used as a research method to evaluate the changing appearance depending on the material properties quantitatively with the quilting method. Besides, exemplary virtual clothing is realized through a virtual quilting method in 3D digital clothing system based on the properties of fabrics.

Electrical Resistivity Response Due to the Variation of Embankment Shape and Reservoir Level (제체형태와 수위에 따른 전기비저항 반응 연구)

  • The distortion effect of electrical response for two-dimensional (2-D) DC resistivity method was verified in terms of 2-D inversion result of synthetic data obtained by three-dimensional (3-D) modeling, which is frequently applied to assess the safety of center core-type fill dam structure. The distortion effect is due to 2-D interpretation for 3-D structure. By the modeling analysis, we found that the water level is correctly described in the resistivity section around the middle part rather than each end side of the embankment due to the 3-D terrain effect, when the material of the embankment is assumed as horizontally uniform. And when we set the slope of outer rock fill part as uniform. the sharper the slope of the center core is, the more similar the resistivity section reflects. On the other hand, when the slope of the rock fill is steep, the resistivity section shows the water level at lower position than the real one, and the 3-D distortion effect at the end side of the embankment was enhanced.

  • This study analyzed the influence of experiential marketing factors of 3D printing and Internet services on technology acceptance factors and usage intention. Furthermore, we analyzed how the user's innovativeness shows the effect on the intention to use. Data acquired from a total of 518 college students was used for the final analysis, which was perfromed by SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 23.0 programs. The results of this study are as follows. We analyzed the influence of the experiential marketing factors of fashion service utilizing the 3D printing and the Internet of Things on the acceptance of technology and intention to use these technologies. As for 3D printing, first, sensory and behavioral factors are positively related to the acceptance of technology. Second, emotional and cognitive factors have negative effects on all technology acceptance. Third, relational factors did not show a significant influence on several conditions of technology acceptance. Fourth, the effects of technology acceptance on the willingness to use have a positive effect on several conditions factors, except the effort expectation. As for the result concerning the Internet of Things first, behavioral factors have a positive effect on all technology acceptance. Second, emotional factors have a negative effect on all technology acceptance. Third, cognitive factors did not have a significant effect on various conditions and showed negative effects on several factors. Fourth, sensory and relational factors did not affect the acceptance of technology. Fifth, the effects of technology acceptance on the intention to use are affected by several conditions, except for effort expectation. As a result of analyzing the moderating effects of user's innovativeness on the willingness to use, 3D printing did not show any significant effect on innovation. However, the Internet of Things has a significant influence on the user acceptance of technology acceptance.
