Extended Depth of Focus (EDF) algorithms for extracting three-dimensional (3D) information from a set of optical image slices are studied by many researches recently. Due to the limited depth of focus of the microscope, only a small portion of the image slices are in focus. Most of the EDF algorithms try to find the in-focus area to generate a single focused image and a 3D depth image. Inherent to most image processing algorithms, the EDF algorithms need parameters to be properly initialized to perform successfully. In this paper, we select three popular transform-based EDF algorithms which are each based on pyramid, wavelet transform, and complex wavelet transform, and study the performance of the algorithms according to the initialization of its parameters. The parameters we considered consist of the number of levels used in the transform, the selection of the lowest level image, the window size used in high frequency filter, the noise reduction method, etc. Through extended simulation, we find a good relationship between the initialization of the parameters and the properties of both the texture and 3D ground truth images. Typically, we find that a proper initialization of the parameters improve the algorithm performance 3dB ~ 19dB over a default initialization in recovering the 3D information.

To improve the separation performance of time-frequency overlapped radar and communication signals from a single channel, this paper proposes an effective separation method based on an improved empirical wavelet transform (EWT) that introduces a fast boundary detection mechanism. The fast boundary detection mechanism can be regarded as a process of searching, difference optimization, and continuity detection of the important local minima in the Fourier spectrum that enables determination of the sub-band boundary and thus allows multiple signal components to be distinguished. An orthogonal empirical wavelet filter bank that was designed for signal adaptive reconstruction is then used to separate the input time-frequency overlapped signals. The experimental results show that if two source components are completely overlapped within the time domain and the spectrum overlap ratio is less than 60%, the average separation performance is improved by approximately 32.3% when compared with the classic EWT; the proposed method also improves the suitability for multiple frequency shift keying (MFSK) and reduces the algorithm complexity.
This paper suggest the image compression that is needed to process PACS in medical information system. The image decoding method is used Linear-predictor and Lloyd-Max quantizer(quantization) in the Wavelet transform domain. Wavelet Transform Method is processed the multi-resolution by dividing image into 10 sub-bands of 3 levels. Low frequency domain that is sensitive to human visual characteristic is encoded by DPCM which is lossless encoding methods, and Lloyed-Max quantizer, the optimal quantizer for reducing ringing and aliasing in the image of inter sub-band, is used in the remaining high frequency domain of sub-band. The examination verifies that decompressed images are superior by the result that PSNR is 28.53dB on the input image, 512$\times$152 abdominal CT image and Chest image.

The wavelet analysis technique is applied in the spectral domain to efficiently represent the multi-scale features of the impedance matrices. In this scheme, the 2-D quadtree decomposition (applying the wavelet transform to only the part of the matrix) method often used in image processing area is applied for a sparse moment matrix. CG(Conjugate-Gradient) method is also applied for saving memory and computation time of wavelet transformed moment matrix. Numerical examples show that for rectangular cylinder case the non-zero elements of the transformed moment matrix grows only as O($N^{1.6}$).
In this paper, we propose a 3D object LOD(Level of Detail) modeling system that constructs a mesh from range images and generates the mesh of various LOD using the wavelet transform. In the initial mesh generation, we use the marching cube algorithm. We modify the original algorithm to apply it to construct the mesh from multiple range images efficiently. To get the base mesh we use the decimation algorithm which simplifies a mesh with preserving the topology Finally, when reconstructing new mesh which is similar to initial mesh we calculate the wavelet coefficients by using the wavelet transform. We solve the critical problem of wavelet-based methods - the surface crease problem (1) - by using the mesh simplification as the base mesh generation method.

Image denoising as one of image enhancement methods has been studied a lot in the spatial and transform domain filtering. Recently wavelet transform which has an excellent energy compaction and a property of multiresolution has widely used for image denoising. But a transform based on human visual system is visually useful if an end user is human beings. Therefore, Gabor cosine and sine transform which is considered as human visual filter is applied to image denoising areas in this paper. Denoising performance of the proposed transform is compared with those of the derivatives of Gaussian transform being another human visual filter and of discrete wavelet transform in terms of PSNR. With three levels of various noises, experimental results for real images show that the proposed transform has better PSNR performance of 0.41dB than DWT and 0.14dB than DGT.

This paper is a study on Dual Tree Complex Wavelet Transform, which improved directional information for efficient image processing. Dual Tree Complex Wavelet Transform satisfies characteristics of shift invariance, and includes 6 directional information, which is more than previous Discrete Wavelet Transform. However, in images of buildings, there are many horizontal and vertical edge components. Therefore, all the high-frequency components of image are not expressed by 6 directional information subbands. This paper proposes 8-directional Complex Wavelet Transform with excellent high-frequency separation features by creating horizontal vertical($0^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$) subband besides 6 directional information subband of previous Dual Tree Complex Wavelet Transform. The proposed method can create and combine various directional information subbands according to features of image. Performance is evaluated by applying the method to noise removal.

In closed-die forging process, blocker has been used to fill and distribute metal well in finisher die. Generally, the blocker shape was determined by an expert with many experiences. However, the manual blocker design process takes much time and efforts, so various automatic methods for the blocker design process have been suggested for the last three decades. The method with filtering in FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) for the blocker design provides general solution than other methods. But, due to the properties of FFT in time-frequency domain, this method has some drawbacks such as long calculation time, difficulty of local control and additional boundary process after filtering. In this study, DWT (Discrete Wavelet Transform), which is more flexible and is more wildly used than FFT, is applied to the blocker design. The method with filtering in DWT is very proper to design blocker in both 2-D and 3-D shapes. To verify the efficiency of this method, blockers of some models are designed and the results show that blocker design with DWT is effective fer the blocker designs

In this study, we investigated the effect of wave height in coastal areas using discrete wavelet transform in Taehwa river basin in Ulsan. Through the decomposition result of tide data using daubechies level 7 wavelet and Curve Fitting Function, we confirmed that detail components of d3 and d4 were semidiurnal and diurnal components and approximation component(a6) was the long period of lunar fortnight constituent. The decomposed tide data in six level was divided into tide component with periodicity and wave component with non-periodicity using autocorrelation function and fourier transform. Finally, we confirmed that the tide component is consisted 66% and wave component is consisted 34%. So, we quantitatively assessed the effect of wave on coastal areas. The result could be used for coastal flood risk management considering the effect of wave.
