This study was conducted to characterize mulberry varieties by the analysis of morphological characters as well as biochemical and molecular biological markers. As for the budding stage Geumsang, Chosang i and Yeongbyeonchuwoo were early, but Dangsang 6, Hwangchuwoo were late. The lowest varietiy in rate of death atop was Dangsang 8(0.0%). Suncheonppong was the highest leaf yields in spring and autumn rearing season. In biochemical isozyme analysis, peroxidase gave good zymogram patterns in isoelectric focusing electrophoresis. There were high variations in RAPD analysis among the mulberry trees. From the obtained peroxidase and RAPD variations, cluster phylogenetic analysis was carried out using NT-SYS PC program. There were no clear grouping patterns between native varieties and leading varieties. The highest similarity was observed between Suwonsang 1 and Suwonsang 2 at about 90% similarity level.

'Hongro' is one of the important mid-season apple cultivars bred in Korea. The recent occurrence of water core in Hongro and the consequent problems motivated this study. The objectives of our study were to investigate the influence of air temperature during the growing period on water core occurrence in Hongro and to provide methods to mitigate its impact. Based on our field experiments for three years, the results indicated that the occurrence of water core disorder was due to the prolonged exposure to high temperature ($T_a$) of >$30^{\circ}C$ during the ripening period. The rates of occurrence of water core disorder were higher in the fruit whose weight was more than 300g or those located outside the tree canopy and thus exposed to stronger solar radiation. In terms of mitigating the water core occurrence, the application of spraying $CaCl_2$ four times from late July to August was effective. Furthermore, between 1 and 15 August when the rate of occurrence was high with $T_a$ (from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.) >$30^{\circ}C$, the micro-water sprinkling for 30 minutes starting at 6:00 p.m. with a supplementary spray conducted two hours after the first application drastically reduced the water core occurrence.

This study was conducted to investigate the influence of different polyethylene film (P.E. film) for mulching on the changes in soil temperature and the production of good feathered apple nursery trees. M.9 rootstocks with stem diameter of 9.1~11.0 mm were planted in plots covered with different P.E. film (i.e., transparent P.E. film, black P.E. film, and bare soil as control). Three weeks after planting, the rootstocks were veneer grafted with 'Sinano Sweet' apple cultivar. In the middle of June, BA was sprayed to nursery for inducing feathering during the growing season. The soil temperature of the control was higher than air temperature by about $0.7^{\circ}C$ from mid April to early October, and that of P.E. film mulching was about $1{\sim}5^{\circ}C$ higher than that of the control. The soil temperature under transparent P.E. film was about $2{\sim}3^{\circ}C$ higher than that under black P.E. film. The diurnal range of soil temperature under the black P. E. film was lowest among all treatments. The P.E. film mulching induced better tree growth and feathering than bare soil. Percentage of good feathering apple nursery of black P.E. film was highest among all treatments because the soil temperature unuder black P.E. film in the early growing season was higher than that of the control and the number of days when the maximum soil temperature was over $35^{\circ}C$ in the summer was lower than that under the transparent P.E. film.
To understand the relative contribution of varietal and environmental variation on various grain quality components in rice, grain appearance, milling recovery, several physicochemical properties of rice grain and texture or palatability of cooked rice for milled rice materials of seven cultivars(five japonica & two Tongil-type), produced at six locations of the middle and southern plain area of Korea in 1989, were evaluated and analyzed the obtained data. Highly significant varietal variations were detected in all grain quality components of the rice materials and marked locational variations with about 14-54% portion of total variation were recognized in grain appearance, milling recovery, alkali digestibility, protein content, K /Mg ratio, gelatinization temperature, breakdown and setback viscosities. Variations of variety x location interaction were especially large in overall palatability score of cooked rice and consistency or set- back viscosities of amylograph. Tongil-type cultivars showed poor marketing quality, lower milling recovery, slightly lower alkali digestibility and amylose content, a little higher protein content and K /Mg ratio, relatively higher peak, breakdown and consistency viscosities, significantly lower setback viscosity, and more undesirable palatability of cooked rice compared with japonica rices. The japonica rice varieties possessing good palatability of cooked rice were slightly low in protein content and a little high in K /Mg ratio and stickiness /hardness ratio of cooked rice. Rice 1000-kernel weight was significantly heavier in rice materials produced in Iri lowland compared with other locations. Milling recovery from rough to brown rice and ripening quality were lowest in Milyang late-planted rice while highest in Iri lowland and Gyehwa reclaimed-land rice. Amylose content of milled rice was about 1% lower in Gyehwa rice compared with other locations. Protein content of polished rice was about 1% lower in rice materials of middle plain area than those of southern plain regions. K/Mg ratio of milled rice was lowest in Iri rice while highest in Milyang rice. Alkali digestibility was highest in Milyang rice while lowest in Honam plain rice, but the temperature of gelatinization initiation of rice flour in amylograph was lowest in Suwon and Iri rices while highest in Milyang rice. Breakdown viscosity was lowest in Milyang rice and next lower in Ichon lowland rice while highest in Gyehwa and Iri rices, and setback viscosity was the contrary tendency. The stickiness/hardness ratio of cooked rice was slightly lower in southern-plain rices than in middle-plain ones, and the palatability of cooked rice was best in Namyang reclaimed-land rice and next better with the order of Suwon$\geq$Iri$\geq$Ichon$\geq$Gyehwa$\geq$Milyang rices. The rice materials can be classified genotypically into two ecotypes of japonica and Tongil-type rice groups, and environmentally into three regions of Milyang, middle and Honam lowland by the distribution on the plane of 1st and 2nd principal components contracted from eleven grain quality properties closely associated with palatability of cooked rice by principal component analysis.
Seasonal and diurnal changes of stomatal diffusive resistance(S.D.R.) and transpiration rate(T.R.) were investigated for determining the ecophysiological water relations of economic tree species subjected to chronic water stress or exogenous abscisic acid treatment. Four species of oaks including Quercus serrata, Q. mongolica. Q. acutissima, and Q. variabilis were used as the experimental materials and also Fraxinus rhynchophylla was studied together with oaks. Stomatal diffusive resistances were repeatedly measured on the containerized 1-0 year seedlings subjected to two kinds of soil moisture regime (wet and dry) in June, August, and September by LI-1600 Steady State Porometer of LI-Cor, Inc.. Exogenous abscisic acid (ABA) solutions of 0.5 mM and 0.05 mM in July and August, respectively, were absorbed into shoots cut from the containerized seedlings for determining their effects on stomatal behavior and transpiration. Most of measurements in stomatal diffusive resistance maintained about 5 s/cm in the morning after sunrise despite of different treatments. But the values fluctuated frequently to high level above 20 s/cm through the afternoon until sunset in the seedlings subjected to dry soil moisture regime. Despite of various treatments and environmental conditions, stomatal diffusive resistances of Q. variabilis were more stable than those of Q. serrata or Q. acutissima. Their values of F. rhynchophylla changed more irregularly in comparison with those of oak species. Exogenous abscisic acid absorbed into shoots cut from seedlings increased stomatal diffusive resistance obviously in most of the species studied. The stomatal responses to abscisic acid treatment were more sensitive in July especially in Q. serrata than in Q. variabilis and Q. acutissima. But the effects of ABA treatment were presented more remarkably in Q. acutissima in August. The responses to abscisic acid were not certain in F. rhynchophylla because of their various fluctuation patterns.
The study was carried out to determine the growth and biomass production of major deciduous trees including Betula platyphylla var. japonica, Betula schmidtii, Zelkova serrata, Acer mono, Prunes sargentii, and Ligustrum obtusifolium subjected to artificial shade treatment in nursery field. The six deciduous trees seedlings grow for 2 years under different light intensity of 100%, 38-62%, 22-28%, 7-20%, and 2-6% of the full sun light intensity. The results were as follows; In the seedling heights and root collar diameters of shade intolerant species like Betula platyphylla var. japonica and Betula schmidtii, the relative growth rates of seedlings grown in full sun showed 2 times as compared with those subjected to the shade treatment of 2-6% light intensities of full sun. In the shade tolerant species like Acer mono ant Ligustrum obtusifolium, the growth performances were better in the seedlings grown in 38-62% light intensities of full sun. Total dry mass including the dry mass of leaves, shoot and root were as a whole decreased with shade treatment. The ratio of the dry mass of leaves and stem increased the dry mass of root. T/R ratio of the seedlings increased by decreasing the relative light intensity. And the T/R ratio of 2-6% light intensities of full sun was ranged from 1.1~5.0 were greater in the full sun light was ranged from 0.6~3.2. Light intensity by artificial shade treatment decreased in deciduous trees when compared on the whole, it showed tendency that SLA increases, increased that seeing resemblant tendency in LAR and LWR and changed of light intensity is strong, it increased that showed difference as statistical. But, LWR of Betula platyphylla var. japonica increased gradually and showed tendency that decreases rapidly in the shade treatment of 2-6% light intensities of full sun. This result is thought that biomass production decreased by shading treatment influenced in physiological characteristics such as leaf area and decrease of the leaf amount.
This study started by focusing on the internalization of the technology appraisal model into the credit rating model to increase the discriminative power of the credit rating model not only for SMEs but also for all companies, reflecting the items related to the financial stability of the enterprises among the technology appraisal items. Therefore, it is aimed to verify whether the technology appraisal model can be applied to identify high-stability SMEs in advance. We classified companies into industries (manufacturing vs. non-manufacturing) and the age of company (initial vs. non-initial), and defined as a high-stability company that has achieved an average debt ratio less than 1/2 of the group for three years. The C5.0 was applied to verify the discriminant power of the model. As a result of the analysis, there is a difference in importance according to the type of industry and the age of company at the sub-item level, but in the mid-item level the R&D capability was a key variable for discriminating high-stability SMEs. In the early stage of establishment, the funding capacity (diversification of funding methods, capital structure and capital cost which taking into account profitability) is an important variable in financial stability. However, we concluded that technology development infrastructure, which enables continuous performance as the age of company increase, becomes an important variable affecting financial stability. The classification accuracy of the model according to the age of company and industry is 71~91%, and it is confirmed that it is possible to identify high-stability SMEs by using technology appraisal items.

This study was performed to investigate the adequate standard pot and number of plants per tree of raising seeding pot on the foxtail millet transplanting culture in the southern province. Due to the various application of wellbeing-health food recently, for upbringing of the foxtail millet, millet and sorghum in minor cereals, R & D and policy support is being promoted actively. The foxtail millet growing season is so short from 90 to 130 days, and it is large variations for a growth temperature. The main results are as follows. When it comes to foxtail millet transplantation, seedling quality of 406 holes, 200 holes and 162 holes of raising seeding pot type were not all significant, and field rooting percentage is accounted for all 94 to 95%. Yield of a foxtail millet was exposed in 406holes 305 kg/10a>162holes 303 kg> 200holes 302 kg order, and it was no significance between test processing. When it's the raising seeding transplanting culture, in case of pot culture, 406holes pot culture were reduced the bed soil cost 63%, pot 50%, working hours 18% for 200holes pot. Transplanting seedling quality per a foxtail millet transplanting culture method, dry weight was high inclination as transplanting number of plant is less, and field rooting percentage displayed more than all 95%. Yield appeared to 2 plants seedling transplanting 315kg/10a> 3 plants seedling transplanting 304kg>1 plant seedling transplanting 256kg order. The projected cost per the pot-sort on the raising seeding transplanting culture of foxtail millet, the seedling transplanting culture of 406holes was reduced 40% percentages compared to 200holes as 76,230won/10a. As a result, 406holes pot and 2plants seedling transplanting culture, labor-saving culture was possible.

This study was carried out in order to closely examine quality index by shading level of 2-year-old (1-1 seedling) container seedling of Daphniphyllum macropodum which is known as the species of having shade tolerance that is evergreen broad leaved tree in the warm temperate region. The shading treatment was regulated with the shading level of full sunlight, and 35%, 55%, 75%, 95% of full sunlight. As a result of surveying growth according to the shading level, both height and root collar diameter were surveyed to be the highest with 45.1 cm and 8.22 mm, respectively, under 75% of shading. The next was surveyed to be 43.2 cm & 8.05 mm and 42.5 cm & 7.98 mm, respectively, in order of 35% and 55% in shading. Leaf, shoot, root, and whole dry mass production were the highest under 75% of shading. The next was higher in leaf, stem, and whole dry mass production under 55% of shading. A root was higher under 35% of shading in the next. H/D ratio was the range of 5.29~5.35 under the 35~75% shading that showed the relatively high height and root collar diameter. T/R ratio was the lowest with 1.17 under 35% of shading. It was 0.41 under 95% of shading as for LWR, 0.24 under 75%-95% of shading as for SWR, and 0.46 under full sun and 35% shading as for RWR. QI was the highest with 3.74 under 75% of shading. As a result of surveying the whole experiment, it is concluded that the production of D. macropodum seedling is more effective under 75% shading
As a successive work of the variation studies of natural Pinus densiflora stands, some characteristics of individual trees of the three natural populations selected from the Kwang-won Province, the middle-east part of Korean peninsula, as shown in the location map, were investigated. And the statiscal differences between individuals within population, and between populations were analysed. Twenty trees from each population were selected for this study purpose. Doing this, those trees lagged in growth, usually showing poorer form, were eliminated. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Though the average population ages had the ranage between 50 and 63, the growth of height or diameter was similar. Population No.9 is, however, considered to have better tree forms at glance. Population No.8 showed the heighest value not only in the clear-stem-length ratio. 0.53 but also in the crown-index 0.91. The higher value can be result from those trees having long lateral branches and relatively short crown height, meaning undesirable crown shape. In regard to the fine branchedness and the acuteness of branching angle, the population No.9. is considered to be a better one, whereas there was almost no difference in crown height among populations. 2. Checking the frequency distributions of the ratio of the clear-stem-height to the total height and the crown-indices, some difference between populations are considered. These might be attributed to the previous way of stand mangement which alters the density. 3. In the serration density, the average number of 54 per 1cm needle length, the significant differences exist between individual trees within population but not between populations. A few trees which extremly high serration density were observed. As in serration, so tendencies were in the number of stomata row and resin duct. 4. The population 8 had the resin duct index value of 0.074 as the highest which was twice or triple of the other ones. 5. The patterns of increasing process of the average 10-year-ring-segment were not similar till the 30 years of age, but beyond this, the tendency lines were aggregated. 6. Regading the average summer wood ratio, no diffrence between populations, but in the ranges, i.e. 23 to 30 in population No.8. and 16 to 36 in population No.9., with regad to the specific gravity of wood, there were hardly observed any difference between populations even in the ranges values. As the increase of tree ages, the increase of specific gravity was followed but the increasing patterns were not similar between populations. 7. No significant differences between populations in the average tracheid length and the range were detected. However, the length was increased according to the age increase. The increasing pattern was same between populations.
