  • Digital twin is a technology that creates a virtual space that replicates the real world and manages the real world efficiently by integrating the real and virtual spaces. The digital twin concept for water facilities is to effectively manage water pipes in the real world by implementing them in a virtual space and augmenting them to the interior space of the building. In the proposed method, the Unity 3D game engine is used to implement the application of digital twin technology in the interior of a building. The AR Foundation toolkit based on ARCore is used as the augmented reality technology for our Digital Twin implementation. In digital twin applications, it is essential to match the real and virtual worlds. In the proposed method, 2D image markers are used to match the real and virtual worlds. The Unity shader program is also applied to make the augmented objects visually realistic. The implementation results show that the proposed method is simple but accurate in placing water pipes in real space, and visually effective in representing water pipes on the wall.

  • As increasing interests for cultural content, 3D restoration about the valuable traditional architectures is in progress, nowadays. Digital restoration is generally performed with using new IT technology and equipments such as 3D scanner. From the view points of making better use of the 3D data, the methodology for 3D restoration leaves much room for improvement. When using 3D scanner, it is possible to get precise 3D data for exterior of the building but huge data size and insufficient information for the wooden intra structure might be obstacles for using them as a source of various digital contents. In traditional wooden structure, the binding rules for corresponding architectural components are important factor for realizing the architectural culture at that times. In this paper, we develop a design tool and architectural components reflecting the wooden intra structure. Moreover, we propose a new 3D restoration method from the design tool, which is good for making contents offering useful information for processes of construction and binding rule in a real time just at a glance.

  • Nowadays 3D models are used in diverse sectors. The 3D maps provide better reality than existing plane maps as well as diverse pieces of information that cannot be expected from the limited plane maps. A process proposed in this paper enables easy and quick production by replacing the expensive laser scanners for modeling by an improved digital camera stereo matching algorithm. The algorithm used in this study was a SURF algorithm contained in the OpenCV library. The unconformity points of the algorithm were eliminated using the homography conversion and epipolar lines. In addition, the improved algorithm was compared with the commercial program, and it showed a better performance than the commercial program. It is expected that the proposed method can contribute to the digital maps and 3D virtual reality because it enables easy and quick 3D modeling provided that the stereo matching conditions are met.

  • Due to the increased use of digital maps in the construction industry, there is a growing demand for high-quality digital map analysis. With the large amounts of data found in digital maps at earthwork sites, there is a particular need to enhance the accuracy and speed of digital map analysis. To address this issue, our study aims to develop new technology and verify its performance to address non-ground and range mismatch issues that commonly arise. Additionally, our study presents a new digital map analysis framework for earthwork sites that utilizes three newly developed technologies to improve the performance of digital map analysis. Through this, it achieved about 95% improvement in analysis performance compared to the existing framework. This study is expected to contribute to the improvement of the quality of digital map analysis data of earthworks.

  • In this paper, the algorithm which can convert a 2D image into a 3D Model will be discussed. The 2D picture drawn by a user is scanned for image processing. The Canny algorithm is employed to find the contour. The waterfront algorithm is proposed to find foreground image area. The foreground area is segmented to decompose the complex shapes into simple shapes. Then, simple segmented foreground image is converted into 3D model to become a complex 3D model. The 3D conversion formular used in this paper is also discussed. The generated 3D model data will be useful for 3D animation and other 3D contents creation.

  • In this study, two standard specifications such as GML (Geography Markup Language) from OGC (Open Geo-spatial Consortium, Inc.) and X3D (extensible 3D) from Web3D consortium were dealt with for a web-based 3D urban application without using commercialized tools. In the first step of this study, DEM (Digital Elevation Model) and 3D GIS data sets were converted to GML structure with attribute schema. Then, these GML elements were projected onto a common coordinate system, and they were converted to the X3D format for visualization on web browser. In this work, a 3D urban data model, as a simple framework model, is extended to a framework model having further detailed information, depending upon application levels. Conclusively, this study is to demonstrate for practical uses of GML and X3D in 3D urban application and this approach can be applied to other application domains regarding system integrators and data sharing communities on distributed environments.

  • The restoration of archaeological data was carried out using photographs and drawings left as past records. It can be divided into ruins and artifacts. The restoration of the ruins was performed by modeling the individual parts and parts left by the photographs, aligning them and synthesizing them, and reconstructing them three-dimensionally as one object. Restoration of artifacts was performed on both photographs and drawings. After the modeling work is prioritized through the photographs, there is a method of restoring the original image by modifying the texture image of the damaged part of the modeled artifact, or restoring the original image by modeling and synthesizing the deleted part in the artifact. The restoration of the artifacts through the drawings was carried out by three - dimensional modeling and reconstruction through real mapping of images. The reconstructed archaeological data can be used in various directions. In particular, it is possible to verify and compare the results of the numerical analysis and interpretation of the past 2D data, and to provide a more accurate analysis plan in the future.

  • This study introduces the development and application of instructional materials for a micro-UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) design and manufacturing program in university education for freshman/sophomore students. The ADDIE methodology was applied to the development of educational materials, which consist of 15 lessons including the aircraft design theory, 3D CAD modeling, 3D printing production, and UAV flight control. The validity of the program was evaluated with 8 expert panels. A total of 82 participants from engineering and social science grouped the 16 teams for the creative UAV wing design and cooperative interactions. The results of overall program satisfaction survey was measured highly as the average 4.54 (out of 5), so that the students were content with the professional engineering knowledge, 3D digital tools, and the opportunity to design and manufacture airplanes on their own. In conclusion, it can be confirmed that the developed program is effective for UAV education for junior level college student.

  • In this time, CAD is most important tool in Product Design Process. Traditional design methods were hardly used in Concurrent Engineering Process. But, CAD tools based on Reverse Engineering method have a lot of serious problem in using designer's works. Especially, in the early stage in design process, adopting CAD tool is impossible, cause of a property of design - intuition. A late studies about CAD system have approaching its quantitative factors in not only software but also hardware. In this paper, I researched about the problems of traditional 3d CAD tools and the new interface approach methods in recent CAD studies. Then, I proposed the guidelines and two alternatives about to developing 3D3T in ubiquitous engineering environment.

  • This study aims at generating automatically three dimensional geometric models of roads using LIDAR data and a digital map. The main processes in the proposed method are (1) generating a polygon encompassing a road region using a road layer from the digital map, (2) extracting LIDAR points within the road region using the polygon, (3) organizing the points into surface patches and grouping the patches into surface clusters, (4) searching the road surface clusters and generating the surface model from the points linked to the clusters, (5) refining the boundary using a digital map. By applying the proposed method to real data, we successfully generated the linear and surface information of the roads.
