  • With the recent increase in old and dangerous buildings, the demand for technology in the field of structure demolition is rapidly increasing. In particular, in the case of structures with severe deformation of damage, there is a risk of deterioration in stability and disaster due to changes in the load distribution characteristics in the structure, so rapid structure demolition technology that can be efficiently dismantled in a short period of time is drawing attention. However, structural deformation such as unauthorized extension or illegal remodeling occurs frequently in many old structures, which is not reflected in structural information such as building drawings, and acts as an obstacle in the demolition design process. In this study, as an effective way to overcome the discrepancy between the structural information of old structures and the actual structure, access to actual structures through 3D modeling was considered. 3D point cloud data inside and outside the building were obtained through LiDAR and drone photography for buildings scheduled to be blasting demolition, and precision matching between the two spatial data groups was performed using an open-source based spatial information construction system. The 3D structure model was completed by importing point cloud data matched with 3D modeling software to create structural drawings for each layer and forming each member along the structure slab, pillar, beam, and ceiling boundary. In addition, the modeling technique proposed in this study was verified by comparing it with the actual measurement value for selected structure member.

  • Since 3D printed medical implant parts usually have surface defects, it is necessary to inspect the surface after manufacturing. In order to automate the surface inspection, it is effective to 3D scan the implant and reconstruct it as a scan model such as a point cloud. When constructing a scan model, the characteristics of the shape and material of the implant must be considered because it has characteristics different from those of general 3D printed parts. In this paper, we present a method to reconstruct the 3D scan model of a 3D printed metal bone-plate that is one kind of medical implant parts. Multiple partial scan data are produced by multi-view 3D scan, and then, we reconstruct a scan model by alignment and merging of partial data. We also present the process of the scan model reconstruction through experiments.

  • Recently, research and development to revitalize smart construction are being actively carried out. Accordingly, 3D mapping technology that digitizes construction site is drawing attention. To create a 3D digital map for construction site a point cloud generation method based on LiDAR(Light detection and ranging) using MMS(Mobile mapping system) is mainly used. The purpose of this study is to analyze the accuracy of MMS LiDAR-based point cloud data. As a result, accuracy of MMS point cloud data was analyzed as dx = 0.048m, dy = 0.018m, dz = 0.045m on average. In future studies, accuracy comparison of point cloud data produced via UAV(Unmanned aerial vegicle) photogrammetry and MMS LiDAR should be studied.

  • The information of traversability and path planning is essential for UGV(Unmanned Ground Vehicle) navigation. Such information can be obtained by analyzing 3D terrain. In this paper, we present the method of 3D terrain modeling with color information from a camera, precise distance information from a 2D Laser Range Finder(LRF) and wheel encoder information from mobile robot with less data. And also we present the method of 3B terrain modeling with the information from GPS/IMU and 2D LRF with less data. To fuse the color information from camera and distance information from 2D LRF, we obtain extrinsic parameters between a camera and LRF using planar pattern. We set up such a fused system on a mobile robot and make an experiment on indoor environment. And we make an experiment on outdoor environment to reconstruction 3D terrain with 2D LRF and GPS/IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit). The obtained 3D terrain model is based on points and requires large amount of data. To reduce the amount of data, we use cubic grid-based model instead of point-based model.

  • Several types of automatic 3D scanners are available for use in the 3D scanning industry, e.g., an automatic 3D scanner that uses a robot arm and one that uses an automatic rotary table. Specifically, these scanners are used to obtain a 3D shape using automatic assisting devices. Most of these scanners are required to perform numerous operations, such as merging, aligning, trimming, and filling holes. We are interested in developing an automatic 3D shape collection device using a spherical-coordinate-based guiding system. Then, the aim of the present study is to design an automatic guiding system that can automatically collect 3D shape data. We develop a 3D model of this system and measuring data which are collected by a personal computer. An optimal design of this system and the geometrical accuracy of the measured data are both evaluated using 3D modeling software. The developed system is then applied to an object having a highly complex shape and manifold sections. Our simulation results demonstrate that the developed system collects higher-quality 3D data than the conventional method.

  • Recently, high productivity capabilities have been improved due to the application of advanced technologies in various industries, but in the construction industry, productivity improvements have been relatively low. Research on advanced technology for the construction industry is being conducted quickly to overcome the current low productivity. Among advanced technologies, 3D scan technology is widely used for creating 3D digital terrain models at construction sites. In particular, the 3D digital terrain model provides basic data for construction automation processes, such as earthwork machine guidance and control. The quality of the 3D digital terrain model has a lot of influence not only on the performance and acquisition environment of the 3D scanner, but also on the denoising, registration and merging process, which is a preprocessing process for creating a 3D digital terrain model after acquiring terrain scan data. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the terrain scan data processing performance. This study seeks to solve the problem of density inhomogeneity in terrain scan data that arises during the pre-processing step. The study suggests a 'pixel-based point cloud comparison algorithm' and verifies the performance of the algorithm using terrain scan data obtained at an actual earthwork site.

  • In the case of robot and Argument Reality applications using a camera in environments, a technology to estimate planes is a very important technology. A RGB-D camera can get a three-dimensional measurement data even in a flat which has no information of the texture of the plane;, however, there is an enormous amount of computation in order to process the point-cloud data of the image. Furthermore, it could not know the number of planes that are currently observed as an advance, also, there is an additional operation required to estimate a three dimensional plane. In this paper, we proposed the real-time method that decides the number of planes automatically and estimates the three dimensional plane by using the continuous data of an RGB-D camera. As experimental results, the proposed method showed an improvement of approximately 22 times faster speed compared to processing the entire data.

  • Building information is primary source in many applications such as mapping, telecommunication, car navigation and virtual city modeling. While aerial CCD images which are captured by passive sensor(digital camera) provide horizontal positioning in high accuracy, it is far difficult to process them in automatic fashion due to their inherent properties such as perspective projection and occlusion. On the other hand, LIDAR system offers 3D information about each surface rapidly and accurately in the form of irregularly distributed point clouds. Contrary to the optical images, it is much difficult to obtain semantic information such as building boundary and object segmentation. Photogrammetry and LIDAR have their own major advantages and drawbacks for reconstructing earth surfaces. The purpose of this investigation is to automatically obtain spatial information of 3D buildings by fusing LIDAR data with aerial CCD image. The experimental results show that most of the complex buildings are efficiently extracted by the proposed method and signalize that fusing LIDAR data and aerial CCD image improves feasibility of the automatic detection and extraction of buildings in automatic fashion.

  • Generally, in special effect video and 3D animation design process, character and background's 3D model is built by 3D program like MAYA or 3DS MAX. But in that manual modeling mode, model design needs much time and costs much money. In this paper, two experimental groups are set to prove use 2D photo scan modeling mode to build 3D model is effective and advanced. The first experimental group is modeling the same object by different experimental setting. The second experimental group is modeling the same background by different experimental setting. Through those two experimental groups, we try to find an effective design method and matters need attention when we use photo scan design mode. We aim to get the model from whole experiment and prove photo scan modeling mode is effective and advanced.
