This paper proposes a 3D animated body profile using 3D body scanning and motion capture devices. Users can create their own personalized body profiles with animation by performing 3D scans for a predetermined set of poses. To achieve this, a template animation was obtained through motion capture for a series of poses, and the acquired 3D scan data from users was mapped to the key poses of the animation using Pose-space deformer. The resulting 3D animated body profiles provide users with greater satisfaction compared to traditional static 2D images or 3D scan data.

Recently, 3D Animation which has developed rapidly in short term, is taking a great interest. It has own special method through learning by mistakes. I'm going to study how to apply the method at 3D Animation to the theory of Animation, and find out the way to develope the skill of 3D Animation in this work.
The purpose of animation is to give interesting stories to an audience through motion. To achieve the purpose, over the past century since its inception, animation has adopted many kinds of technologies, and thus developed diverse narrative methods and visual expression techniques. In addition, with the advancement of expression techniques, all elements making up animation have gradually been systemized, and at the same time, have helped express the worlds beyond the reality. As a result, people have faced the era when an audience can watch everything imaginated by an animation director on a big screen. These days, more efforts have been made in order for the audience to feel much more than enjoy pictures moving in a frame. In other words, the purpose of the animation is changing from the passive viewing of animation to feeling and sensing stuffs through the animation. In the center of the changing process is 3D technology which gives new interesting to an audience. Sometime ago, a 3D animation movie was produced in Korea. But it did not bring out box-office profits, for it failed to give satisfaction to an audience who expected high perfection and beauty being able to be rivalled to those of international 3D animation movies. The failure is attributable to the fact that the domestic 3D animation production industry is merely in the early stage, and has not sufficient human resources, technology, and experiences in producing 3D animation films. Moreover, the problem is that most studies on 3D focus on the technologies related to reenactment, but that few studies on the images, which an audience directly faces, have been conducted. Under the domestic circumstance, the study on stereoscopic image screen of , a 3D stereoscopic animation film which was released in 2010 and has been seen as the best successful 3D stereoscopic animation, is worthwhile. Thus this thesis conducted theoretical consideration and case analysis focusing on the visual direction that creates the pictures to deliver abundant three dimensional effect so that it can be used as a basic data when producing high quality-domestic 3D animation and training professional labor forces. In the result, it was found that the 3D animation was not a new area, but the area which has been expanded and changed by applying the characteristics of 3D image based on the principles of the existing media aesthetics. This study might be helpful to establish the foundation of the theoretical studies necessary for producing 3D animation contents for realizing the sense of reality.

As number of making 3D feature animation films is increasing, 3D production pipeline become more complicated and more artists are needed than before. Major studios in foreign countries, in burden of producing high quality films with limited amount of budget and time, have been handling such difficulties by hiring technical directors in each department such as animation, rigging, cloth hair, and effect. Technical director is new occupation which appears after trend of producing animation is changed from 2D to 3D. Importance of technical director is increasing in respect to studios' needs which are related to complication in production time, manpower, budget, and production pipeline. This research is based on the researcher's work experience as an animation TD at Walt Diseny Animation Studio and Sony Pictures Imageworks, interview with working professionals, and related books and thesis. It focuses on the role of animation technical director in Disney's 3D feature animation film from two perspectives, 'Designing Production Pipeline' and 'Analyzing Problem of Shot'. Animation technical directors design and test production pipeline so that they can detect and solve problems that may arise in production process as early as possible. They not only analyze numerous problems of characters or shots limited to animation department but also in other departments such as modeling, mapping, character rigging, cloth, hair, lighting, rendering, software development in order to support artists to complete their shots according to the production schedule. In accordance with recent trend of increasing number of 3D feature animation film production in South Korea and collaboration with foreign studios outside of South Korea, it is vital to train animation technical directors who can develop production pipeline, analyze various problems of shots and characters to escalate efficiency in production.
It seems like that the main stream of animation for theaters transferred from cells to 30 animations. It can be easily seen if current situation is compared to the time when al! works were Cell animations. Although earlier papers were mostly about studies on Cell animation works, future studies will publish papers related to 30. Accordingly, this study studied the association of the researcher's paper with 30 works while It had been applied to 20. Then, based on the data, this study analyzed how major/supporting characters were transformed to animation characters in the scenes that were animated at the beginning and end of film that were reieased in 2007. This result was compared with the character made using a voice actor in the Pixar's long piece of animation for theater that had been already screened. The data were made into values to some extent in an attempt to increase satisfaction in the result of analysis comparing the character with the voice actor. When making characters using actual persons, it is hoped that grasping the modeling factors of the images making 20/30 characters as indicated in this study will be helpful in producing animation characters.
An implementation of animation module using the 3D body data scanned by laser scanner is reported in this paper. Characteristic points of the skeleton in human body were picked up as pivot point for 3D rotation. The body data set wes reconstructed as objects built in hierarchical tree structure, which is based on skeleton model. In order to implement the 3D animation of the laser scanned body data, the vertexes of the objects were connected as skeleton structure and animated to follow dynamic patterns inputted by user.
