  • Digital virtual manufacturing is a technology that aims for the rapid development of products and the verification of production-process in ways that are more efficient by integrating digital models within the entire manufacturing process. These digital models utilize various information technologies, such as 3D CAD and simulations. Mixed reality, which represents graphical objects for only needed parts against real scene, can bring a more enriched sense of reality to an existing virtual manufacturing system that is in a pure virtual environment, and it can reduce the time and money needed for modeling the environment. This paper suggests a method for planning virtual factory layouts based on mixed reality using legacy datathat are already constructed in the real field. To do this, we developed the method to acquire simulation data from legacy data and process this acquired data for visualization based on mixed reality. And then we construct display system based on mixed reality, which can simulate virtual factory layout with processed data. Developed system can reduce errors related with factory layout by verifying the location and application of equipments in advance before arrangement of real ones at the practical job site.

  • Stop-motion animation is highly valued for realistic imagery and its ability to captivate the five senses of the audience. Despite this, practical research in this area is limited to date. The long hours required to produce stop-motion animation and turn these into profits can be attributed for the lack of knowledge in this area. In production research, the matter is made worse as it is difficult to protect the intellectual property made through the collaborated efforts of students and teaching staff through each laborious stage of planning, broadcasting and making 2D models. Meanwhile as the animation industry finds the investigation of new production processes taxing, it has maintained its focus on pre-existing processes such as the use of pipeline. This paper aims to shed light on new production methods that can be used to improve the effectiveness of existing stop-motion production. In addition, by working with Taktoon Enterprises on its T.V series Galaxy Kids the paper will revise real world production methods including the traditional use of hand made models. Thus by investigating the use of graphic technology such as 3D printing the paper will be able to extend current business models. Research conducted in this paper is a necessary part of overcoming various contents production obstacles. Furthermore, it may help publicize issues faced in production leading to the discussion and sharing of new innovations.

  • Third Person Action Game is a genre receiving continuous interest from many game enthusiasts. The most distinctive feature about third person action games is that the user can actually see the character as well as the various actions, which in turn increases user engagement. Many games are developed using game engines. However, this study designs a third person action game using only DirectX library instead of the specialized techniques in game engines. By doing so, the game development costs will be minimalized. The study also uses several basic algorithms in order to process the various events and to make the animation effects more efficiently managed in the graphic device. The performance superiority is demonstrated by the results of the study.

  • This paper describes a design of LNS-based divider and square-root circuits which are key arithmetic units in graphic processor and digital signal processor. To achive area-efficient and low-power that is an essential consideration for mobile environment, a fixed-point format of 16.16 is adopted instead of conventional floating-point format. The designed divider and square-root units consist of binary-to-logarithm converter, subtractor, logarithm-to-binary converter. The binary to logarithm converter is designed using combinational logic based on six regions approximation method. As a result, gate count reduction is obtained when compared with conventional lookup approack. The designed units is 3,130 gate count and 1,280 gate count. To minimize average percent error 3.8% and 4.2%. error compensation method is employed.

  • Recent developments in computer graphics technology and image processing technology have increased interest in point cloud technology for inputting real space and object information as three-dimensional data. In particular, point cloud technology can accurately provide spatial information, and has attracted a great deal of interest in the field of autonomous vehicles and AR (Augmented Reality)/VR (Virtual Reality). However, in order to provide users with 3D point cloud contents that require more data than conventional 2D images, various technology developments are required. In order to solve these problems, an international standardization organization, MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group), is in the process of discussing efficient compression and transmission schemes. In this paper, we provide a region division transfer method of 3D point cloud content through extension of existing MPEG-DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP)-SRD (Spatial Relationship Description) technology, quality parameters are further defined in the signaling message so that the quality parameters can be selectively determined according to the user's request. We also design a verification platform for ROUTE (Real Time Object Delivery Over Unidirectional Transport)/DASH based heterogeneous network environment and use the results to validate the proposed technology.

  • For the condition monitoring of the journal bearing in rotating machinery, a system for their diagnosis by acoustic emission(AE) was developed. AE has been used to detect abnormal conditions in the bearing system. It was found from the field application study as well as the laboratory experiment using a simulated journal bearing system that AE RMS voltage was the most efficient parameter for the purpose of current study. Based on the above results, algorithms and judgement criteria for the diagnosis system was established. The system is composed of four parts as follows: the sensing part including AE sensor and preamplifier, the signal processing part for RMS-to-DC conversion to measure AE ms voltage, the interface part for transferring RMS voltage data into PC using A/D converter, and the software part including the graphic display of bearing conditions and the diagnosis program.

  • High dynamic range (HDR) images represent a far wider numerical range of exposures than common digital images. Thus it can accurately store intensity levels of light found in the specific scenes generated by light sources in the real world. Although a kind of professional HDR cameras which support fast accurate capturing has been developed, high costs prevent from employing those in general working environments. The common method to produce a HDR image with lower cost is to take a set of photos of the target scene with a range of exposures by general purpose cameras, and then to transform them into a HDR image by commercial softwares. However, the method needs complicate and accurate camera calibration processes. Furthermore, creating HDR environment maps which are used to produce high quality imaging contents includes delicate time-consuming manual processes. In this paper, we present an automatic HDR panorama environment map generating system which was constructed to make the complicated jobs of taking pictures easier. And we show that our system can be effectively applicable to photo-realistic compositing tasks which combine 3D graphic models with a 2D background scene using image-based lighting techniques.

  • An expression of image in visual communication design traditionally has a dose relationship with the mechanical part of several expression media. Especially, an image conversion becomes easter by converging various forms of image such as a pictorial expression, a drawing up a plan, an optical expression and a reflected image into digital data in the image expression using digital mode. In addition, synthesis between various forms of visual ,images is activated by the integration of all expression media into digital mode and thus the extent of the image expression becomes diversified. Moreover, there is a tendency that a various dimensional expression such as 3D and 4D is generalized in the image expression of digital design. A partial or whole image conversion has often occurred during the generalization process of several image forms. Such conversion summarized into two factors, a formative side and a technical side. We described the existing pictorial expression as a formative side, an optical expression as a photography, a materialization of image conversion theory of computer graphic image conversion according to data form as a technical side and specific content according to dimension. We summarized objective and demonstrative resets through a simple simulation using a computer for the contents required a technical and qualitative measure and presented an application program of the particular results from the study to the visual communication design work by a case.

  • Cartoons and consequently animation are an effective way of visualizing futuristic scenarios. Here we look at how animation is becoming ubiquitous and an integral part of this future today: the cybernetic and mediated society that we are being transformed into. Animation therefore becomes a form of speech between humans and this networked reality, either as an interface or as representation that gives temporal form to objects. Animation or specifically animated films usually are associated with character based short and feature films, fiction or nonfiction. However animation is not constricted to traditional cinematic formats and language, the same way that design and communication have become treated as separate fields, however according to $Vil{\acute{e}}m$ Flusser they aren't. The same premise can be applied to animation in a networked culture: Animation has become an intrinsic to design processes and products - as in motion graphics, interface design and three-dimensional visualization. Video-games, virtual reality, map based apps and social networks constitute layers of an expanded universe that embodies our network based culture. They are products of design and media disciplines that are increasingly relying on animation as a universal language suited to multi-cultural interactions carried in digital ambients. In this sense animation becomes a discourse, the same way as Roland Barthes describes myth as a type of speech. With the objective of exploring the role of animation as a design tool, the proposed research intends to develop transmedia creative visual strategies using animation both as narrative and as an user interface.
