Various techniques to measure the three-dimensional (3D) surface profile of a 3D micro- or nanostructure have been proposed. However, it is difficult to apply such techniques directly to industrial uses because most of them are relatively slow, unreliable, and expensive. The HiLo optical imaging technique, which was recently introduced in the field of fluorescence imaging, is a promising wide-field imaging technique capable of high-speed imaging with a simple optical configuration. It has not been used in measuring a 3D surface profile although confocal microscopy originally developed for fluorescence imaging has been adapted to the field of 3D optical measurement for a long time. In this paper, to the best of our knowledge, the HiLo optical imaging technique for measuring a 3D surface profile is proposed for the first time. Its optical configuration and algorithm for a precisely detecting surface position are designed, optimized, and implemented. Optical performance for several 3D microscale structures is evaluated, and it is confirmed that the capability of measuring a 3D surface profile with HiLo optical imaging technique is comparable to that with confocal microscopy.
The purpose of this study is to extract typical body shapes of Korean adults based on the three-dimensional Korean anthropometric data measured through 5th national anthropometric survey and to examine the suitability of the 3-D human shape data for the interior packaging. 36 three-dimensional anthropometric variables related to the design of vehicle interior were considered for the appraisal of typical body shapes. Four major factors were extracted by the factor analysis and factor scores were calculated for all subjects. Typical or standard drivers of Korean adults were selected by the minimum deviation criteria for the four factor scores with respect to 5th, 50th, and 95th percentiles, respectively. Typical drivers of Korean adults were visualized by the CATIA-HUMAN program due to the absence of proper application software for three-dimensionally scanned human body data. There are considerable differences between the anthropometric data of Korean adults and those provided by CATIA-HUMAN program, which shows that the modeling data provided by CATIA-HUMAN should not be directly applied to the ergonomic evaluation for the vehicle design. This suggests the necessity for the development of suitable software for scanned human shape data. It is also expected that the anthropometric data of typical drivers extracted from this study help design package layouts and improve the suitability of ergonomic evaluation for Korean customers.
We demonstrated transmission direct phase-measuring deflectometry (DPMD) with a specular phase object having discontinuous surfaces by using two displays and a two-dimensional array detector for display and by recording the distorted fringe patterns. Three-dimensional (3D) information was obtained by calculating the height map directly from the phase information. We developed a mathematical model of the phase-height relationship in transmission DPMD. Unlike normal transmission deflectometry, this method supports height measurement directly from the phase. Compared with other 3D measurement techniques such as interferometry, this method has the advantages of being inexpensive and easy to implement.
In this paper, a enw model-base three-dimensional (3-D) object recognition mehtod using hopfield network is proposed. To minimize deformation of feature values on 3-D rotation, we select 3-D shape features and 3-D relational features which have rotational invariant characteristics. Then these feature values are normalized to have scale invariant characteristics, also. The input features are matched with model features by optimization process of hopjfield network in the form of two dimensional arrayed neurons. Experimental results on object classification and object matching with the 3-D rotated, scale changed, an dpartial oculued objects show good performance of proposed method.
The optical triangulation method has been used as a non-contact measuring method of three dimensional object whape. But this measuring method has narrow measuring range, non-linearity on steep slope surface and shadow effect. In this study, we discussed a new optical measurement method to overcome these kinds of demerits. The advantage of this new method is that it is possible to measure precisely the object shape having the steep slope surface without shadow effect. As exper- imental results, maximum displacement error was 200 .mu. m over the whole measuring when the incident angle on the object surface was within 60 degree.
Nowadays the widely used media in architecture include visualizations, animations and three-dimensional models. An optimized 3D digital method using active CAM(Computer Aided Manufacturing) and CNC(Computerized Numerical Control) imaging is developed for accurate shape and 3D measurements in freeform buildings in this paper. In contrast to a conventional building using auto CAD system and others, the proposed active digital optimization is based on a combination of 3D numerical data and parametric 3D model. The objective of this paper is therefore to present digital optimization method for constructability of freeform building. The 3D digital optimization method is appropriate to serious variations in freeform shape. The developed digital optimization method is necessary to be carried out to verify the robustness and accuracy for constructability.
The term 'module' is an architectural term. It refers to the components or systems that make up a finished product. As industries develop, modules have become one of the methods that can create diverse and creative designs. Traditional modular fashion design mainly focused on structural methods, such as the combination, assembly, overlap, and arrangement of modules, as well as the tessellation of geometric shapes. However, in this paper, significance lies in exploring the application of shape grammar, a design method in architecture, to fashion design. It aims to search for ways to express three-dimensional designs, derive designs that can be worn and produced, and propose fashion design by applying the rules of shape grammar to the design process. Through this analysis, the paper aims to examine the methods and characteristics of shape grammar. The research method of this paper is as follows. First, by utilizing optimized programs for implementing the modules of shape grammar, it was possible to propose a method for producing modules of shape grammar and suggest module designs. Additionally, effective methods of representation using the Clo 3D program were explored in the design development process. Second, by applying shape grammar to the fashion design process, five-dimensional modular fashion designs were proposed, including a bolero, dress 1, dress 2, setup, and coat. The proposed modular fashion design using shape grammar in this paper provides a rational design process that differentiates itself from traditional modular fashion design. By formalizing the shapes between modules and creating rules, it overcomes the limitations of design that rely on the designer's intuition or sensibility and enables the development of more diverse modular fashion designs. This application of shape grammar in fashion design can provide an important direction in exploring a sustainable fashion industry.

Background: Bone grafting has been considered the gold standard for hard tissue reconstructive surgery and is widely used for large mandibular defect reconstruction. However, the midface encompasses delicate structures that are surrounded by a complex bone architecture, which makes bone grafting using traditional methods very challenging. Three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting is a developing technology that is derived from the evolution of additive manufacturing. It enables precise development of a scaffold from different available biomaterials that mimic the shape, size, and dimension of a defect without relying only on the surgeon's skills and capabilities, and subsequently, may enhance surgical outcomes and, in turn, patient satisfaction and quality of life. Review: This review summarizes different biomaterial classes that can be used in 3D bioprinters as bioinks to fabricate bone scaffolds, including polymers, bioceramics, and composites. It also describes the advantages and limitations of the three currently used 3D bioprinting technologies: inkjet bioprinting, micro-extrusion, and laserassisted bioprinting. Conclusions: Although 3D bioprinting technology is still in its infancy and requires further development and optimization both in biomaterials and techniques, it offers great promise and potential for facial reconstruction with improved outcome.
Inferring and recognizing 3D objects form a 2D occuluded image has been an important research area of computer vision. The octree model, a hierarchical volume description of 3D objects, may be utilized to generate projected images from arbitrary viewing directions, thereby providing an efficient means of the data base for 3D object recognition. We present a fast algorithm of finding the 4 pairs of feature points to estimate the viewing direction. The method is based on matching the object contour to the reference occuluded shapes of 49 viewing directions. The initially best matched viewing direction is calibrated by searching for the 4 pairs of feature points between the input image and the image projected along the estimated viewing direction. Then the input shape is recognized by matching to the projectd shape. The computational complexity of the proposed method is shown to be O(n$^{2}$) in the worst case, and that of the simple combinatorial method is O(m$^{4}$.n$^{4}$) where m and n denote the number of feature points of the 3D model object and the 2D object respectively.
