Rapid Fabrication of Micro-nano Structured Thin Film for Water Droplet Separation using 355nm UV Laser Ablation (355 nm UV 레이저 어블레이션을 이용한 마이크로-나노 구조의 액적 분리용 박막 필터 쾌속 제작)

  • Recently micro-nano structures has widely been reported to improve the performance of waterproof, heat isolation, sound and light absorption in various fields of electric devices such as mobiles, battery, display and solar panels. A lot of micro-sized holes on the surface of thin film provide excellent sound, or heat, or light transmission efficiency more than solid film and simultaneously nano-sized protrusions around micro hole increase the hydrophobicity of the surface of thin film because of lotus leaf effects as generally known previously. In this paper new rapid fabrication process with 355 nm UV laser ablation was proposed to get micro-nano structures on the surface of thin film, which have only been observed at higher laser fluence. Developed thin micro-nano structured film was also investigated the hydrophobic property by measuring the contact angle and demonstrated the possibility to apply to water droplet separation.

  • UV laser micromachining of metallic materials has been used in microelectronic and other industries. This paper shows on experimental investigation of micromachining of copper using a 355nm UV laser with 50ns pulse duration. A finite element model with high strain rate effect is especially suggested to investigate the phenomena which are only dominated by mechanically pressure impact in disregard of thermally heat transfer. In order to consider the strain rate effect, Cowper-Symonds model was used. To analyze the dynamic deformation during a very short processing time, which is nearly about several tens nanoseconds, a commercial Finite Element Analysis (FEA) code, LS-DYNA 3D, was employed for the computational simulation of the UV laser micro machining behavior for thin copper material. From these computational results, depth of the dent (from one to six pulsed) were observed and compared with previous experimental results. This will help us to understand interaction between UV laser beam and material.

  • Recently, UV pulse laser is widely used in micro machining of the research, development and industry field of IT, NT and BT products because the laser short wavelength provides not only micro drilling, micro cutting and micro grooving which has a very fine line width, but also high absorption coefficient which allows a lot of type of materials to be machined more easily. To analyze the dynamic deformation during a very short processing time, which is nearly about several tens nanoseconds, the commercial Finite Element Analysis (FEA) code, LS-DYNA 3D, was employed for the computitional simulation of the UV laser micro machining behavior for thin copper material in this paper.   • Micro lens array(MLA) is widely used in information technology(IT) industry fields for various applications such as a projection display, an optical power regulator, a micro mass spectrometer and for medical appliances. Recently, MLA have been fabricated and developed by using a reflow method having the processes of micro etching, electroplating, micro machining and laser local heating. Laser thermal relaxation method is introduced in marking of microdots on the surface of densified glass. In this paper, we have proposed a new direct fabrication process using UV laser local thermal-expansion(UV-LLTE) and investigated the optimal processing conditions of MLA on the surface of negative photo-resist material. We have also studied the 3D shape of the micro lens obtained by UV laser irradiation and the optimal process conditions. And then, we made chrome mold by electroplating. After that, we made MLA using chrome mold by hot embossing processing. Finally, we have measured the opto-physical properties of micro lens and then have also tested the possibility of MLA applications.

Three-dimensional micro photomachining of polymer using DPSSL (Diode Pumped Solid State Laser) with 355 nm wavelength (355nm 파장의 DPSSL을 이용한 폴리머의 3차원 미세 형상 광가공기술)

  • The basic mechanistic aspects of the interaction and practical considerations related to polymer ablation were briefly reviewed. Photochemical and photothermal effects, which highly depend on laser wavelength have close correlation with each other. In this study, multi-scanning laser ablation processing of polymer with a DPSS (Diode Pumped Solid State) 3rd harmonic Nd:YVO$_4$ laser (355 nm) was developed to fabricate a three-dimensional micro shape. Polymer fabrication using DPSSL has some advantages compared with the conventional polymer ablation process using KrF and ArF laser with 248 nm and 193 nm wavelength. These advantages include pumping efficiency and low maintenance cost. And this method also makes it possible to fabricate 2D patterns or 3D shapes rapidly and cheaply because CAD/CAM software and precision stages are used without complex projection mask techniques. Photomachinability of polymer is highly influenced by laser wavelength and by the polymer's own chemical structure. So the optical characteristics of polymers for a 355 nm laser source is investigated experimentally and theoretically. The photophysical and photochemical parameters such as laser fluence, focusing position, and ambient gas were considered to reduce the plume effect which re-deposits debris on the surface of substrate. These phenomena affect the surface roughness and even induce delamination around the ablation site. Thus, the process parameters were tuned to optimize for gaining precision surface shape and quality. This maskless direct photomachining technology using DPSSL could be expected to manufacture tile prototype of micro devices and molds for the laser-LIGA process.

  • The nurses manually carry out the intravenous therapy for the patients. Using an Arduino, the fine flow controlling device was invented to provide an ongoing patient care. The medication is injected through a peristaltic pump, and the amount of the solution is controlled with a RGB color sensor. The power of the device is supplied through the batteries. An amount of the injection is measured with LIG strain sensor fabricated by 355nm UV pulsed laser. This system will provide a better medical service.

Laser local thermal-expansion (LLTE) technology demonstrates the formation of microdots on the surface of polymer substrate, in this paper. We have also investigated the new direct fabrication method of placing the MLA on the surface of a SU-8 photoresist layer. We have obtained the 3D shape of the micro lens processed by UV laser irradiation and have experimentally verified the optimal process conditions.

  • The material processing of UV nanosecond pulse laser cannot be avoided the material shape change and contamination caused by interaction of base material and laser beam. Nowadays, ultra short pulse laser shorter than nanosecond pulse duration is used to overcome this problem. The advantages of this laser are no heat transfer, no splashing material, no left material to the adjacent material. Because of these characteristics, it is so suitable for micro material processing. The processing of sapphire wafer was done by UV 355nm, green 532nm, IR 1064nm. X-Y motorized stage is installed to investigate the proper laser beam irradiation speed and cycles. Also, laser beam fluence and peak power are calculated.

  • In this paper, laser direct micromaching is developed to fabricate micro patterns using UV laser ( λ$_3$= 355 nm). Experimentally, laser beam paths mainly influences the surface shape quality. Thus. we proposed laser beam path generator by extracting shape data in a blueprint worked through CAD modeler and using genetic algorithm that considers the characteristics of laser beam. The results show that various shapes of micro patterns could be manufactured using proposed method in this paper.
