Susceptibility of Stress Corrosion Crack Initiation of Type 304 SS in Simulated Primary Water Environment of PWR (원전 1차 계통수 모사환경에서 Type 304 스테인리스강의 응력부식균열개시 민감도)

  • The core shroud of rector vessel internals (RVI) of OPR1000 and ARP1400 is made of Type 304 stainless steel (SS) by bending and welding process that may induce high deformation and residual stress in manufacturing. This work aims to evaluate the susceptibility of stress corrosion crack (SCC) initiation of bent parts of RVI in high temperature primary water environment. For SCC initiation test, tensile specimens were fabricated from the 90 degree bent plate of Type 304 SS (DT specimen), that is an archived part of a Korean APR1400. After the SCC initiation test, the specimen surface was thoroughly examined by optical and scanning electron microscopy, and compared to the specimen fabricated from the as-received plate of Type 304 SS (AR specimen). The surface observation revealed that SCC initiated on the AR specimen surface in typical intergranular (IG) mode, while SCC on the DT specimen occurred in transgrannular mode as well as IG mode. It was also found that the size and number of SCC on the DT specimen were larger than that on the AR specimen. This was attributable to a strain-hardening during the bending process. To compare the susceptibility of SCC initiation, total crack density (TCD) was calculated from the total crack length divided by the measured area of AR and DT specimens. TCD of DT specimen was 4.6 times higher than AR specimen in average, indicating that higher possibility of degradation of bent parts of RVI for a long-term operation.

  • 파이프는 기계, 전자, 전기, 플랜트 등 많은 산업 분야에서 응용기기로 널리 사용되고 있으며, 소방, 화학 등 안전 관련 분야에서도 널리 사용되고 있다. 제품의 다양화에 따라 배관 분야에서도 기술의 중요성이 높아지고 있다. 특히 기존 동관을 스테인리스강으로 변경하는 경우 구조해석이나 유동 해석을 통해 안전성과 유동특성을 평가할 필요가 있다. 자체 개발한 일체형 인서트형 커넥터인 6.35 소켓 모델의 유동 안전성은 CFD 해석을 이용하여 유동유발진동(FIV)평가 과정의 4단계를 통해 진행하였다. 배관계 벽면에 작용하는 압력변동의 진폭은 3,780Pa이하의 수준으로 형성되며, 이는 냉매 배관의 운전압력이나 설계응력과 비교했을 때 매우 작은 수준의 압력으로, 난류에 의한 진동이 배관의 구조안전성에 미치는 영향은 미미한 수준인 것으로 나타났다.

Effects of stabilizing elements on mechanical and electrochemical characteristics of stainless steel in marine environment (안정화 원소 첨가에 따른 스테인리스강의 기계적 특성과 해수환경 하에서의 전기화학적 특성)

  • Stainless steels stabilized with Ti or Nb are largely used in offshore and shipbuilding industries due to its excellent corrosion resistance. In this study, carbide stabilizers, Ti and Nb, were added to stainless steel 304 specimens with different concentrations(Ti: 0.26%, 0.71%, Nb: 0.29%, 0.46%, 0.71%), and their mechanical and electrochemical characteristics were evaluated. Micro-Vickers hardness testing was employed to characterize the mechanical characteristics with alloying elements. Electrochemical evaluation techniques including Tafel analysis, cyclic polarization experiment, galvanostatic experiment were utilized to compare the corrosion characteristics of the specimens. The result of hardness tests revealed that Nb containing specimens showed increasing hardness with increasing alloying contents while adding Ti had little effect on increase in hardness. In the case of electrochemical measurements, the electrochemical characteristics of the specimens were enhanced with increasing Nb contents while they were deteriorated with increasing Ti contents. As a result, different stabilizers and their contents may produce significant differences in electrochemical characteristics, and there such effect must be taken account of in development of stainless steels for marine environment.

Development of Multi-layer Bellows using Ferritic Stainless Steel (페라이트계 스테인리스강을 사용한 다층형 벨로우즈 개발)

  • Ferritic stainless steel is used for parts of exhaust system of commercial vehicle, because it has such advantages as low price and high corrosion resistant compared with austenite stainless steel. Even though ferritic stainless steel has these merits, to manufacture multi-layer bellows with complex geometry, austenite stainless steel is being used in the industry, because of it's high ductility. However, recently, the mechanical property of the ferritic stainless is getting improved and alternating austenitic stainless steel. In this paper, the possibility of mass production of bellows made of ferritic stainless steel like MH1 and 443CT is studied. Tensile test and ridging test are carried out to observe mechanical properties of STS304, MH1 and 443CT. Forming analysis using FEM is performed to investigate plastic strain during forming process. Prototype bellows has been made using STS304, MH1 and 443CT, respectively, and fatigue tests are carried out to evaluate fatigue life of bellows.

Tensile test, ridging test and corrosion test were carried out to observe material properties of STS304, MH1 and 443CT. Three types of prototype bellows were made using STS304, MH1 and 443CT stainless steels, and stiffness and fatigue tests were carried out to evaluate performance of the prototype bellows.
