  • Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of WBVE on biomechanical factor analysis of drop landing jumps before and after a four week training program. Methods: Participants were divided into two group: VEG (n=5, age: $25.7{\pm}2.3yrs$, height: $170{\pm}7.6cm$, weight: $69.3{\pm}8.3kg$) and OEG (n=5, age: $24.6{\pm}3.4yrs$, height: $164{\pm}4.9cm$, weight: $58.8{\pm}9.2kg$). Ten infrared cameras (Vicon, UK) with a sampling rate of 100 Hz were used in two GRF measurement systems (AMTI, USA). Results: The variability of the center of mass was largest at the falling phase, and there was a great risk of injury when landing after the jump. Second, the jumping heights of the VEG (vibration exercise group) were higher than those of the OEG (only exercise group), regardless of training period. Third, there were significant differences in the hip joint P1 (flexion) and knee joint P2 (extension) between the exercise groups after 4 weeks of training. However, there were no significant differences among training periods or phases. Conclusion: regardless of training periods, the VEG showed increased jump height compared with the OEG, but the consistency between the jump height and the lower joint power could not be determined.

  • Background: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of exercise on the activities of antioxidant enzymes, super oxide dismutase(SOD), glutathione peroxidase(GPX) and catalase(CAT) of skeletal muscle(gastrocnemius) and liver in streptozotocin(STZ) induced diabetic rats. The malondialdehyde(MDA) concentration was also measured as an index of lipid poroxidation of tho tissues by exercise-induced oxidative stresses in diabetic rats. Material and Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into control and STZ-induced diabetic rats. The STZ in citrate buffer solution was injected twice at S days intervals intraperitoneally(50, 70 mg/kg respectively). On the 28th day after the first STZ injection, the diabetic animals were randomly divided into pre- and post-exercise groups, The exercise was introduced to the rats of post-exercise group by treadmill running until exhaution with moderate intensity ($V_{O2max}$: 50-70%) of exercise. The duration of average running time was 2 hours and 19 minutes. Results: The blood glucose concentration was increased(p<0.001) and plasma insulin concentration was decreased(p<0.001) in the diabetic rats. The glycogen concentration in the muscle and liver was decreased by exhaustive exercise in the diabetic rats(p<0.001), In the skeletal muscle, the activities of GPX was increased(p<0.05) and the activities of SOD and CAT were not changed in the diabetic rats compare to those of the control rats. The activities of GPX was not changed by exercise but the activities of SOD(p<0.01) and CAT(p<0.01) were decreased by exercise in the diabetic rats, The concentration of MDA was not changed by exercise in diabetic rats, and the values of pre-exercise and post-exercise diabetic rats were not different from the value those of control rats, In the liver, the activities of SOD was decreased(p<0.01), and the activities of GPX and CAT were not changed in diabetic rats compared to the values of control rats, The activities of SOD, GPX and CAT were not changed by exercise in diabetic rats but the activity of SOD seemed to decrease slightly, The MDA concentration was increased in the diabetic rats compared to the values of control rats(p<0.001), but there was no change of MDA concentration by exercise in diabetic rats, Conclusions: In summary, exhaustive physical exercise did not seem to impose oxidative stress on the skeletal muscle because of due to oxygen free radicals, regardless of the decrease in SOD and CAT in the diabetic rats, In liver tissue, the tissue damage by oxidative stress was observed in diabetic rats but the additional tissue damage by exhaustive physical exercise was not observed.

  • One of the major ocular complications of diabetes mellitus(DM) is retinopathy, which is characterized by increased neovascularization and neural degeneration in the retina. In the present study, we investigated the effects of treadmill exercise on retinopathy in the rats with DM. Thirty-two male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups(n = 8 in each group): control group, exercise group, DM-induction group, and DM-induction and exercise group. DM was induced by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin. The rats in the exercise groups were made to run on the treadmill for 30 min five times per a week, during 12 weeks. The expressions of phosphoinositide 3-kinase(PI3K), phospho-protein kinase B(pAkt), hypoxia inducible factor-1α(HIF-1α), and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) in the retina were determined using western blot analysis and immunohistochemistry. In the present results, the expressions of PI3K, pAkt, HIF-1α, and VEGF in the retina of the diabetic rats were increased. Treadmill exercise suppressed HIF-1α and VEGF expressions through inhibition of PI3K/pAkt pathway in the diabetic rats. These results suggest that treadmill exercise may ameliorate the progression of diabetes-induced retinopathy by inhibiting neovascularization in the retina.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of endurance and resistance exercise by using different intensity on diabetic-related blood profiles in impaired glucose tolerance mice. 54 C57BL/6 mice were divided into (1) Control group (CO, n=9), (2) impaired glucose tolerance group (IGT, n=9), (3) IGT + 50% of VO2max endurance exercise group (IGT50A, n=9), (4) IGT + 75% of VO2max endurance exercise group (IGT75A, n=9), (5) IGT +50% of 1RM resistance exercise group (IGT50R, n=9), 그리고 (6) IGT + 75% of 1RM resistance exercise group (IGT75R, n=9). Endurance exercise program was performed 40 min/day, 5 days a week for 8 weeks on treadmill. Resistance exercise program was consisted in ladder-climbing 8 set/day, 5 days a week for 8 weeks. After completed the exercise program, there was no different insulin level in the groups. The fasting glucose was significantly lower in CO than in other groups, and it was not different among the exercised groups. However, IGT75R was statistically lower than IGT. HOMA-IR was only different between CO and IGT. HbA1c was higher in IGT than in other groups. As compared with exercised groups, IGT 75A was lower than IGT50R. TC was lower in CO than in other groups, but there was no different in TG. Endurance exercise groups showed higher than CO and IGT in HDL-C level. LDL-C was lower in CO than other groups. In addition, IGT75A was lower than IGT and IGT50R in LDL-C level. In conclusion, 75% of 1RM resistance exercise had more positive effect on fasting glucose, and 75% of VO2max endurance exercise improved HbA1c and LDL-C level. In addition, endurance exercise had more effective in HDL-C improvement as compared with resistance exercise.

  • Estimating ship motion is difficult because it take place in complex environments.. Estimating ship motion is an important factor in ensuring the safety of ship, so accurate estimates are needed. Existing motion-related studies compare the apparent motion of the model acquired and the reference model by experimenting with the ship motion on a particular alignment, making it difficult to intuitively estimate the hull motion. This study introduces the concept of estimating the characteristics of ship motion as a transfer function through pole-zero interpretation and frequency response analysis by applying the method of transfer function of Linear-Time Invariant system. Ship motion analysis model using Linear-Time Invariant system is consist with 1) wave as input signal 2) ship motion as output signal 3) hull defined as black box. This model can be defined by numericalizing the ship motion as a transfer function and is expected to facilitate the characterization of the ship motion through pole-zero analysis and frequency response analysis.
