  • This paper is concerned with an efficient generation of stereoscopic views for complex virtual environments by exploiting frame coherence in visibility. The basic idea is to keep visible polygons throughout the rendering process. P-buffer, a buffer of image size, holds the id of the visible polygon for each pixel. This contrasts to the frame buffer and the Z-buffer which hold the color information and the depth information, respectively. For the generation of a consecutive image, the position and the orientation of the visible polygons in the current view are updated according to the viewer's movements, and re-rendered on the current image under the assumption that, when the viewer moves slightly, the visibility of polygons remains unchanged. In the case of stereoscopic views, it may not introduce much difficulty when we render the right(left) image using visible polygons on the (right) image only, The less difference in two images is, the easier the matching becomes in perceiving depth. Some psychophysical experiments have been conducted to support this claim. The computational complexity for generating a fight(left) image from the previous left(right) image is bounded by the size of image space, and accordingly. It is somewhat independent of the complexity of the 3-D scene.

  • This paper presents a transceiver module for human body communications whereby a spread signal with a group of 64 Walsh codes is directly transferred through a human body at a chip rate of 32 Mcps. Frequency selective digital transmission moves the signal spectrum over 5 MHz without continuous frequency modulation and increases the immunity to induced interference by the processing gain. A simple receiver structure with no additional analog circuitry for the transmitter has been developed and has a sensitivity of 250 ${\mu}V_{pp}$. The high sensitivity of the receiver makes it possible to communicate between mobile devices using a human body as the transmission medium. It enables half-duplex communication of 2 Mbps within an operating range of up to 170 cm between the ultra-mobile PCs held between fingertips of each hand with a packet error rate of lower than $10^{-6}$. The transceiver module consumes 59 mA with a 3.3 V power supply.

  • The effect of temperature and pressure in the nitrogen ambient furnace on bulk micro defect (BMD) and denuded zone (Dz) is experimentally investigated. It is found that as pressure increases, Dz depth increases with a small decrease of BMD density in the range of temperature, $100{\sim}300^{\circ}C$. BMD density with hot isostatic pressure treatment (HIP) at temperature of $850^{\circ}C$ is higher than that without HIP while Dz depth is lower due to much higher BMD density. As the pressure increases, BMD density is increased and saturated to a critical value, and Dz depth increases even if BMD density is saturated. The concentration of nitrogen increases near the surface with increasing pressure, and the peak of the concentration moves closer to the surface. The nitrogen is gathered near the surface, and does not become in-diffusion to the bulk of the wafer. The silicon nitride layer near the surface prevents to inject the additional nitrogen into the bulk of the wafer across the layer. The nitrogen does not affect the formation of BMD. On the other hand, the oxygen is moved into the bulk of the wafer by increasing pressure. Dz depth from the surface is extended into the bulk because the nuclei of BMD move into the bulk of the wafer.

  • In AI research Go is regarded as the most challenging board game due to the positional evaluation difficulty and the huge branching factor. MCTS is an exciting breakthrough to overcome these problems. The idea behind AlphaGo was to estimate the winning rate of a given position and then to lead deeper search for finding the best promising move. In this paper, using non-strategic MCTS we verified the fact that most pro players regard the best first move as Tengen (Origin of heaven) in $9{\times}9$ Go is correct. We also compared the average winning rates of the most popular first moves.

  • In distributed autonomous mobile robot system, each robot (predator or prey) must behave by itself according to its states and environments, and if necessary, must cooperate with other robots in order to carry out a given task. Therefore it is essential that each robot have both learning and evolution ability to adapt to dynamic environment. This paper proposes a pursuing system utilizing the artificial life concept where virtual robots emulate social behaviors of animals and insects and realize their group behaviors. Each robot contains sensors to perceive other robots in several directions and decides its behavior based on the information obtained by the sensors. In this paper, a neural network is used for behavior decision controller. The input of the neural network is decided by the existence of other robots and the distance to the other robots. The output determines the directions in which the robot moves. The connection weight values of this neural network are encoded as genes, and the fitness individuals are determined using a genetic algorithm. Here, the fitness values imply how much group behaviors fit adequately to the goal and can express group behaviors. The validity of the system is verified through simulation. Besides, in this paper, we could have observed the robots' emergent behaviors during simulation.

  • A numerical study has been performed on the natural convection heat transfer from a conducting tube with two axial fins to a surrounding cylinder. As increasing dimensionless fin length ($L_F$), the center of flow moves to the bottom of annulus and the recirculating flow rate is decreased. The maximum local Nusselt number of conducting tube appears at ${\theta}=180^{\circ}$ for $L_F=0.0$, but at ${\theta}=130^{\circ}$ for $L_F{\geq}0.3$ and that of outer cylinder appears at ${\theta}=13^{\circ}$ for $L_F{\leq}0.6$ but at ${\theta}=33^{\circ}$ for $L_F=1.0$. The fin temperature is decreased by increasing radial distance and the temperature distribution of the downward fin is generally less than that of the upward fin. By increasing fin length, the local Nusselt number of the upward fin appears negative values for $L_F=1.0$, but appears positive values for $L_F<0.8$, and that of the downward fin appears positive values.

  • The seasonal appearance and distribution of finless porpoise (Neophocaena asiaeorientalis) was investigated with sighting survey method around Wido in West sea, Korea. Fishing survey with drag net was also conducted to investigate the species composition of inhabitants and the consignment quantity data of fisheries cooperation was collected to confirm the seasonal change of the composition and quantity of them. Finless porpoise didn't emerged around Wido in winter season, but the number of appearance in summer season amounted to 1~15 indv. for 15 observing points and the appearance frequency became lower in open sea than in inshore. There was also significant relationship between the appearances of finless porpoise (Neophocaena asiaeorientalis) and that of inhabitants. we consequently concluded that finless porpoise typically distributes from April to september, and moves to another area for wintering and food consumption from October to March.

  • The void evolution in direct bonding process of $Si/Si_3$$N_4$$SiO_2$/Si silicon wafer pairs has been investigated with an infrared camera. The voids that formed in the premating process grew in the conventional furnace annealing process at a temperature of $600^{\circ}C$. The voids are never shrunken even with the additional annealing process at the higher temperatures. We observed that the voids became smaller and disappeared with sequential scanning by our newly proposed fast linear annealing(FLA). FLA irradiates the focused line-shape halogen light on the surface while wafer moves from one edge to the other. We also propose the void shrinking mechanism in FLA with the finite differential method (FDM). Our results imply that we may eliminate the voids and enhance the yield for the direct bonding of wafer pairs by employing FLA.

  • All the outdoor and indoor spaces are connected with each other. The human being moves toward those spaces and experiences temperature fluctuation between the natural and artificial temperature. We conducted an experiment which subjects are the college students wearing the data logger in urban life, and measured 24 hours' exposed temperature and thermal comfort in summer. Results were as follows. 1. Most subjects get weather information(84.6%). Fashion(46.2%) and weather (30.8%) are the reasons to select clothes. They spend their time in indoor environment for 84.92% hours of a day and have an air-conditioner(61.5%) in their houses. 2. Exposed temperature fluctuation were from 33.8$^{\circ}C$ to 15.6$^{\circ}C$. The median value of experienced temperature were 26-27$^{\circ}C$ and average temperature was 26.3$^{\circ}C$. Subjects experienced cold shock of 3.96 times in a day and 67.21% of all evaluated thermal comfort in the range of -1 and 1 by ASHRAE 7 Category Scales. Artificial environment which connected with outside let people experienced temperature fluctuation in wide range.

  • Our previous study used a bar-type reference mirror to measure the relative distance to the target surface. The target measurement accuracy was required to $1{\mu}m$ PV for aspheric optical surface up to 1m in diameter. Earlier system suffers from the reference surface deformation when the measuring part moves. In order to reduce the deformation, measuring part and the reference part separated from each order in the new design. This system utilizes a kinematic support assembly using invar flexure to minimize the reference surface deformation under gravity and vibration. The surface deformation requirement of reference mirror is defined as of $0.2{\mu}m$ under gravity and 40Hz vibration. The finite element results, shows reference mirror deformation of $0.164{\mu}m$. The first resonance mode was computed to analysis 46.05Hz for reference part and 43.44Hz for measuring part. Thesis satisfies the frequency requirement.
