  • In studying an autonomous navigation technique of UUV(Unmaned Underwater Vehicle), one of the many fundamental techniques is to plan a 3D path to complete the mission via realtime information received by sonar showing landscapes and obstacles. The simulation system is necessary to verify the algorithm in researching and developing 3D path planning of UUV. It is because 3D path planning of UUV should consider guide control, the dynamics, ocean environment, and search sonar models on the basis of obstacle avoidance technique. The simulation system developed in this paper visualizes the UUV's movement of avoiding obstacles, arriving at the goal position via waypoints by using C++ and OpenGL. Plus, it enables the user to setup the various underwater environment and obstacles by a user interface. It also provides a generalization that can verify path planning algorithm of UUV studied in any developing environment.

  • Robust extraction of 3D object's features, shape and global motion information from 2D image sequence is described. The object's 21 feature points on the pyramid type synthetic object are extracted automatically using color transform technique. The extracted features are used to recover the 3D shape and global motion of the object using stereo paraperspective camera model and sequential SVD(Singuiar Value Decomposition) factorization method. An inherent error of depth recovery due to the paraperspective camera model was removed by using the stereo image analysis. A 30 synthetic object with 21 features reflecting various position was designed and tested to show the performance of proposed algorithm by comparing the recovered shape and motion data with the measured values.

  • A thermostable chitosanase gene from the isolated strain, Bacillus sp. CK4, was cloned, and its complete DNA sequence was determined. The thermostable chitosanase gene was composed of an 822-bp open reading frame which encodes a protein of 242 amino acids and a signal peptide corresponding to a 30 kDa enzyme in size. The deduced amino acid sequence of the chitosanase from Bacillus sp. CK4 exhibits 76.6%, 15.3%, and 14.2% similarities to those from Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus ehemensis, and Bacillus circulans, respectively. C-terminal homology analysis shows that Bacillus sp. CK4 belongs to the Cluster III group with Bacillus subtilis. The size of the gene was similar to that of a mesophile, Bacillus subtilis showing a higher preference for codons ending in G or C. The functional importance of a conserved region in a novel chitosanase from Bacillus sp. CK4 was investigated. Each of the three carboxylic amino acid residues were changed to E50D/Q, E62D/Q, and D66N/E by site-directed mutagenesis. The D66N/E mutants enzymes had remarkably decreased kinetic parameters such as $V_{max}$ and k$\sub$cat/, indicating that the Asp-66 residue was essential for catalysis. The thermostable chitosanase contains three cysteine residues at position 49, 72, and 211. Titration of the Cys residues with DTNB showed that none of them were involved in disulfide bond. The C49S and C72S mutant enzymes were as stable to thermal inactivation and denaturating agents as the wild-type enzyme. However the half-life of the C211S mutant enzyme was less than 60 min at 80$^{\circ}C$, while that of the wild type enzyme was about 90 min. Moreover, the residual activity of C211S was substantially decreased by 8 M urea, and fully lost catalytic activity by 40% ethanol. These results show that the substitution of Cys with Ser at position 211 seems to affect the conformational stability of the chitosanase.

  • This study investigated noise characteristics of air cleaners and humidifiers in terms of frequency domains and measurement directions. Noise levels of 31 air cleaners and 36 humidifiers were measured in an anechoic chamber according to the related group standards. As for air cleaners, 5 receiving points of 1 m off from front, rear, left, right and top surfaces of the product were considered. In case of humidifiers, 4 receiving points without the rear position were considered in the same manner as air cleaners. In each case, A-weighted equivalent continuous sound level was measured three times for 1 min. As a results, most of the measured air cleaners and humidifiers showed the highest noise levels at top directions due to the air ventilating location. In case of air cleaners, averaged noise levels of top and rear positions were 49.9 and 48.2 dB(A), respectively, whereas averaged noise level of other positions was all 45.2 dB(A). In case of humidifiers, averaged noise level of top position was 44.1 dB(A) whereas averaged noise levels of other positions were 38.7 to 39.1 dB(A). In addition, high frequency content of 1 kHz and 3.15 kHz to 4 kHz for air cleaners and middle frequency content of 500 Hz to 1.6 kHz for humidifiers showed significant contribution to determination of overall noise levels with correlation coefficient of 0.9 and above.

  • In this paper, I would like to talk about a step by step detailed information browsing which is founded on hierarchical structure for offering suitable information about the mass 3D data of a national treasure building to user as a standard of the visual distance. A step by step detailed information of the national treasure building of gigantic proportions offers a process of detailed information browsing which decided suitable hierarchical structure as considering of the preprocessing procedure which produces hierarchical structure and a visual distance of user. In the preprocessing procedure, 3D data is divided and controlled by optimized spacial structures. The relevance connection between the inner spacial surface is then examined and reconfigured in order to prevent holes or distortions. Finally, relative information data is created. In detailed information browsing, by examining the visual distance between model and user, then by browsing proper step of data, suitable level model data can be provided to the users in accordance with the position of observation.

  • In this paper, we introduce an eye-tracking 3D display system using variable parallax barrier and DDC communication. A barrier of variable parallax barrier composed of 4 sub-barriers and a commercially available web camera is utilized to implement the eye-tracking system. The coordinates of a viewer is extracted from the web camera transfer to 3D display via DDD/CI communication. The variable barrier attached to the LCD moves electrically according to the right eye position for 3D images. This system is compared experimentally with the commercial parallax barrier methods.

  • It is within bounds to say that the mood expressed in the Scenes of 3D Animation influences by mostly setting up of 3D CG lighting. Tn the context of CG, lighting is the process of illuminating digital scenes in an artistic and technical manner so the audience can perceive what the director intends to display on the screen with the appropriate clarity and mood. The lighting has the role of making the scenes beautiful and harmonious as an aesthetics of light and color created and controlled by people. It can be also stylized in symbolic and metaphorical methods environmental mood which we pursue to expose and story which we want to express. It thus appears that the concept of lighting style is intimately related to the particular context and art direction of animation film. But unfortunately, there are no foolproof formulas to the process of lighting a scene. In short, the lighting contributes to define the style of the scene as a conditional lighting setups' elements including position, color, intensity, shadow's area and scope. But at the same time, we must not overlook the artistic aspects that the lighting might suggest over all moods the animation genre and the style of scene like tranquility, suspense, and high-drama.

  • In the present study, we measured the performance (accuracy and reaction time) of the user in the virtual environment with see-through Head-Mounted Display system that includes 3D sound generated through Head-Related Transfer Function (HRTF) to investigate the feasibility of auditory display for a certain object's spatial information. To sum up the results of two experiments, when presenting location information of the object with 3D sound, it is desirable that information arrangement from the user should be an orthogonal pattern which is located with right angle, not a diagonal pattern. Like these results propose that spatial information presentation with 3D sound make the optimal object arrangement of virtual environment possible.

  • In this paper, a new illumination compensation algorithm by segmentation with depth information is proposed to improve the coding efficiency of multi-view images. In the proposed algorithm, a reference image is first segmented into several layers where each layer is composed of objects with a similar depth value. Then we separate objects from each other even in the same layer by labeling each separate region in the layered image. Then, the labeled reference depth image is converted to the position of the distortion image view by using 3D warping algorithm. Finally, we apply an illumination compensation algorithm to each of matched regions in the converted reference view and distorted view. The occlusion regions that occur by 3D warping are also compensated by a global compensation method. Through experimental results, we are able to confirm that the proposed algorithm has better performance to improve coding efficiency.

  • We present a method to reproduce in-between views from captured stereo images to control depth feeling that a user can perceive on a 3D display. The stereo images captured from a pair of cameras have a fixed viewpoint and a screen parallax which depend on the physical position and the distance between the cameras. In this paper, we produce stereo images of an intermediate viewpoint between two original cameras by a view interpolation on the input stereo images. Furthermore, the camera separation of the reproduced stereo images can be controlled by a linear interpolation coefficient used by the view interpolation. By using the proposed method, stereo images can be reproduced where the depth feeling and a three dimensional effect is suitable for the individual's eye separation or the characteristic of an application.
