  • In the paper, we develop the ‘Navigation Mechanism’ that can present the 3D space and trace the location in the user's viewpoint. Especially, using this mechanism, VRML tools are used to develop the virtual reality space in the internet. These mechanism can effectively represent the 3D virtual reality space and apply the many 3D related parts like architefure, education, entertainment and so on.

  • Because the leg mechanism of walking roblt affect on the mobility and energy efficiency, we focus on the design of new leg mechanism based on the previous leg mechanisms. We mention the deficiency of the previous leg mechanisms and propose a new leg mechanism that consists of a 2-d.o.f pantograph mechanism and a vertical linear actuator. The pantograph mechanism is attached to the horizontal plane of the body and the verical linear actuator is vertical to that plane. In order to design a quadruped walking robot, we consider the kinematics of the 2-d.o.f pantograph mechanism and the arrangement of twol linear motion guides that drive the pantograph mechanism.

  • In this study, we proposed a three-dimensional (3D) scanning system based on laser-vision technique and rotary mechanism for automatic 3D model reconstruction. The proposed scanning system consists of a laser projector, a camera, and a turntable. For laser-camera calibration a new and simple method was proposed. 3D point cloud data of the surface of scanned object was fully collected by integrating extracted laser profiles, which were extracted from laser stripe images, corresponding to rotary angles of the rotary mechanism. The obscured laser profile problem was also solved by adding an addition camera at another viewpoint. From collected 3D point cloud data, the 3D model of the scanned object was reconstructed based on facet-representation. The reconstructed 3D models showed effectiveness and the applicability of the proposed 3D scanning system to 3D model-based applications.

  • Laser scanner are getting used for inspection and reverse engineering in industry such as motors, electronic products, dies and molds. However, due to the lack of efficient scanning technique, the tasks become limited to the low accuracy purpose. The main reasons for this limitation for usefulness are caused from the optical drawback, such as irregular reflection, scanning direction normal to measuring surface, the influence of surface integrity, and other optical disturbances. To overcome these drawback of laser scanner, this study propose the mechanism to reduce the optical trouble by using the 2 kinds of rotational movement axis and by composing the spherical coordinate to scanning the surface keeping normal direction consistently. So, it could be designed and interfaced the measuring device to realize that mechanism, and then it could acquisite the accurate 3D form cloud data. Also, these data are compared with the standard master ball and the data acquisited from the touch point sensor, to evaluate the accuracy and stability of measurement and to demonstrate the implementation of an dental tooth purpose system

  • The SMART (System-integrated Modular Advanced ReacTor) is an integral-type small modular reactor developed by KAERI (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute). This paper discusses the feasibility and applicability of a 3D-based equivalent model using dynamic condensation method for seismic analysis of a SMART control rod drive mechanism. The equivalent model is utilized for complicated seismic analysis during the design of the SMART. While the 1D-based beam-mass equivalent model is widely used in the nuclear industry for its calculation efficiency, the 3D-based equivalent model is suggested for the seismic analysis of SMART to enhance the analysis accuracy of the 1D-based equivalent model while maintaining its analysis efficiency. To verify the suggested model, acceleration response spectra from seismic analysis based on the 3D-based equivalent model are compared to those from the 1D-based beam-mass equivalent model and experiments. The accuracy and efficiency of the dynamic condensation method are investigated by comparison to analysis results based on the conventional modeling methodology used for seismic analysis.

  • This paper is concerned with the development of stacked ceramic thin actuation layer IDEAL (InterDigitated Electrode Actuation Layer) using d$_{33}$ actuation mechanism of piezoelectric ceramic. Most of the thin piezoelectric actuators are operated with d$_{31}$ actuation mechanism. Many kinds of piezoelectric ceramic actuators are strived now to improve the actuation performance. One of efforts to improve performance of piezoceramic actuators is the research trying to develop an actuator using the piezoelectric coefficient d$_{33}$ . The piezoelectric coefficient d$_{33}$ is almost twice larger than piezoelectric coefficient d$_{31}$ . Therefore, the induced strain of PZT thin layer with d$_{33}$ 3 actuation mechanism is bigger than that with d$_{31}$ actuation mechanism. The AFC(MIT) and LaRC-MFC$^{TM}$ which is developed by a research team of NASA Langley Research Center used d$_{33}$ actuation mechanism with surface interdigitated electrode to enhance its actuation performance. But their actuation mechanism is not perfect d$_{33}$ actuation mechanism since the interdigitated electrodes are placed at the surface of the actuation layer. In this research, the stacked ceramic thin actuation layer with imbedded interdigitated electrode is designed and manufactured. The actuation strain of stacked ceramic thin actuation layer is measured and compared with the actuation strain of the LaRC-MFC$^{TM}$. The comparison shows that the developed stacked ceramic thin actuation layer can produce 15% more actuation strain than LaRC-MFC$^{TM}$.> TM/.

  • A mathematical model for investigating the form generation mechanism in the centerless infeed grinding process is described. For 3-D modeling of form generation, contact points are assumed to be on least squares contact lines at the grinding wheel, regulating wheel, and work-rest blade. Using force and deflection analysis, the validity of this assumption is shown. Based on the 2-D simulation model developed in the previous work and the least squares contact line assumption, a 3-D model is presented. To validate this model, simulation results were compared with the experimental works. The experiments and computer simulations were carried out using three types of cylindrical workpiece shapes with varying flat length. The experimental results agree well with the simulation. It can be seen that the effect of flat end propagated to the opposite end through workpiece reorientation.

  • Three-dimensional ultrasonic probes being applied to the medical imaging can be grouped into three depending on the scanning methods, which are a mechanical type system, a free-hand system, and 2D phased arrays system. A mechanical type scanner uses a mechanically driven transducer to acquire series of 2D plane images. By integrating these images, a 3-D medical image can be constructed. A motor driving mechanism is a conventional choice for mechanically driving a transducer assembly which picks the raw ultrasonic images up. In this paper we attempt to design a 3D ultrasonic probe which has a operating mechanism of s tilting 3-D scanning. The motion of a transducer assembly of the ultrasonic probe is analytically modelled. We propose a selection procedure for the diameter of a wire rope driving the transducer assembly and the size of torsional spring which gives an initial tension to wire ropes.
