  • Objective: To investigate skeletal and dental changes after application of a mandibular setback surgery-first orthodontic treatment approach in cases of skeletal Class III malocclusion. Methods: A retrospective study of 34 patients (23 men, 11 women; mean age, $26.2{\pm}6.6years$) with skeletal Class III deformities, who underwent surgery-first orthodontic treatment, was conducted. Skeletal landmarks in the maxilla and mandible at three time points, pre-treatment (T0), immediate-postoperative (T1), and post-treatment (T2), were analyzed using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT)-generated half-cephalograms. Results: The significant T0 to T1 mandibular changes occurred $-9.24{\pm}3.97mm$ horizontally. From T1 to T2, the mandible tended to move forward $1.22{\pm}2.02mm$, while the condylar position (Cd to Po-perpendicular plane) shifted backward, and the coronoid process (Cp to FH plane) moved vertically. Between T1 and T2, the vertical dimension changed significantly (p < 0.05). Changes in the vertical dimension were significantly correlated to T1 to T2 changes in the Cd to Po-perpendicular plane (r = -0.671, p = 0.034), and in the Cp to FH plane (r = 0.733, p = 0.016), as well as to T0 to T1 changes in the Cp to Po-perpendicular plane (r = 0.758, p = 0.011). Conclusions: Greater alterations in the vertical dimension caused larger post-treatment (T2) stage skeletal changes. Studying the mandibular position in relation to the post-surgical vertical dimension emphasized the integral importance of vertical dimension control and proximal segment management to the success of surgery-first orthodontic treatment.

  • Currently we have 11 climatological stations registered in World Meteorological Organization. Geographically, these stations are unevenly distributed in Korea and are mainly located on seaside. Therefore station's density analysis should be performed to produce the high-quality climatological data. Using the correlation integral method, the density of climatological stations can be measured by the estimation of fractal dimension. In this study, new climatological stations having the higher fractal dimension were selected. Sequential or simultaneous selection method were carried out until 3 new stations were selected based on the fractal dimension.

  • This study aimed at assessing the industrial workers' mental health status and identifing the relationship between mental health status and socio-demographic variables. We administered psychiatric self report rating scale (SCL-90)to 622 manual workers and 191 office workers in a textile .industry. The study began on 1 November, 1981 and lasted for 30 days The results were as follow: 1. Scores of symptom dimension were higher in female rather than male, younger than older, lower income group than higher one, lower educated group than higher one, manual workers than office workers and unmarried group than married one respectively. 2. The result of dimension scores of total samples showed that the score of Obsessive-compulsive scale was highest. The rest symptom dimension showed the order as follows: Interpersonal sensitivity, Depression, Hostility, Anxiety, Paranoid ideation, Somatization, Psychoticism and Phobic anxiety. 3. In order to identify the partial contribution of each socio-demographic variables on the mental health, multiple regression method was applied, and the result was as follows. 1) Sex was the most important one to explain the Somatization, Phobic-anxiety and Psychoticism scales among the 7 variables in the multiple regression equation. 2) Economic status was the most important variable to explein the Obsessive-compulsive, Depression and Hostility scales. 3) Marital status was the most important variable to explain the Interpersonal-sensitivity and Paranoid ideation scales.

  • The multiple targets tracking problem has been one of the main issues in the radar applications area in the last decade. Besides the standard Kalman filtering, various methods including the variable dimen-sion filter, input estimation filter, interacting multiple model(IMM) filter, dederated variable dimension filter with input estimation, etc., have proposed to address the tracking and sensor fusion issues. In this pa- per, two existing tracking algorithm, i.e, the IMM filter and the variable dimension filter with input estima-tion(VDIE), are combined for the purpose of improving the tracking performance for maneuvering targets. To evaluate the tracking performance of the proposed algorithm, three typical maneuvering patterns, i.e., waver, pop-up, and high-diver motions, are defined and are applied to the modified IMM filter as well as the standard IMM filter. The smaller RMS tracking errors, in position and velocity, of the modified IMM filter than the standard IMM filter are demonstrated though computer simulations.

  • In this study, the effects of starvation on floc characteristics when treating saline wastewater using a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) were investigated. The effectiveness over 5 days of starvation for aerobic and non-aerobic strategies for maintaining the physical characteristics of floc-forming sludge and the recovery period needed to regain the initial pollutant removal efficiency were investigated. Experiment results revealed that the sludge volume index (SVI) increased and the floc size and fractal dimension decreased after starvation under both aerobic and non-aerobic conditions. Sludge settleability deteriorated faster under aerobic conditions compared to non-aerobic conditions. Under non-aerobic conditions, the SBR required less time to return to its initial pollutant removal efficiency and settleability. Floc size, fractal dimension, and SVI were observed to be fairly correlated with each other. The results demonstrated that it was better to maintain the sludge under non-aerobic rather than aerobic starvation, because it adapted to, resisted starvation and had a quicker re-start afterward.

  • The purpose of this study is to measure the library online service quality based on the expectation and the service performance from the users' point of view. The online questionnaire was developed based on SERVQUAL, however information quality dimension was added on it, and the survey was conducted within a research library. The factor analysis for effecting library online services showed that 5 service dimensions were loaded discretely, and information quality was put in the other dimension. The IPA (Important Performance Analysis) result confirmed that information quality, service reliability, and service assurance were considered as important factors : multiple regression analysis revealed that tangibility and information quality were the most significant dimension for the library online service.

  • This study proposes the analysis and evaluation method of time series ultrasonic signal using the phase space-frequency domain. Features extracted from time series signal analyze quantitatively characteristics of weld defects. For this purpose, analysis objectives in this study are features of time domain and frequency domain. Trajectory changes in the attractor indicated a substantial difference in fractal characteristics resulting from distance shifts such as parts of head and flange even though the types of defects are identified. These differences in characteristics of weld defects enables the evaluation of unique characteristics of defects in the weld zone. In quantitative fractal feature extraction, feature values of 3.848 in the case of part of head(crack) and 4.102 in the case of part of web(side hole) and 3.711 in the case of part of flange(crack) were proposed on the basis of fractal dimension. Proposed phase space-frequency domain method in this study can integrity evaluation for defect signals of rail weld zone such as side hole and crack.
