  • Storing and estimating the high order probability distribution of classifiers and class labels is exponentially complex and unmanageable without an assumption or an approximation, so we rely on an approximation scheme using the dependency. In this paper, as an extended study of the second-order dependency-based approximation, the probability distribution is optimally approximated by the third-order dependency. The proposed third-order dependency-based approximation is applied to the combination of multiple classifiers recognizing handwritten numerals from Concordia University and the University of California, Irvine and its usefulness is demonstrated through the experiments.

  • The purpose of this research is to examine the reciprocal relationships between depression and marital satisfaction among older couples. For longitudinal dyadic analysis, this study sets up a research model based on the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model, the Common Fate Model, and Autoregressive Cross-Lagged Model. Data came from four annual waves from the 10th year (2015) to the 13th year (2018) of the Korean Welfare Panel Survey and the final sample comprised a total of 1,383 married couples over 60 years of age in 2015. Structural Equation Modeling identified the reciprocal relationship between depression and marital satisfaction among older couples, with higher marital satisfaction of older couples leading to lower depression of husbands' and wives', and with higher depression of husbands' and wives' inducing lower marital satisfaction of the couples. Thus, this study suggested that longitudinal interplay between depression and marital satisfaction can lead to a vicious cycle. Based on these findings, the need to intervene at both the individual level and the couple level was discussed in order to reduce depression and improve marital satisfaction.

  • Since an LFSR(linear feedback shift register) as a pattern generator has solely linear dependency in itself, it generates sequences by moving the bit positions for pattern generation. So the correlation between the generated patterns is high and thus reduces the possibility of fault detection. To overcome these problems many researchers studied to have goodness of randomness between the output test patterns. In this paper, we propose the new and effective method to construct phase shifter as PRPG(pseudo random pattern generator).

  • This study was performed to examine the relationship between dependence of elderly peritoneal dialysis patients and burden on family caregivers. The subjects for this study were 50 elderly patients on Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis(CAPD) who were registered in a hospital in Seoul and 50 their family caregivers. The data were collected from April 4 to August 15, 2011. The collected data were analyzed by the SPSS WIN 12.0 program. The mean score of dependence was 139.6 which means their experience of high level dependence. The mean score of burden was 84.2 which means their family caregivers experience of high level burden. Positive correlation was found between dependence of elderly peritoneal dialysis patients and burden on their family caregivers (r=.61, p=.000). It is considered that the study emphasizes for the healthcare providers to recognize dependence as the important nursing issue for elderly CAPD patients. And it is necessary to develop an nursing intervention for decreasing dependence of elderly CAPD patients and burden on their family caregivers.

  • Purpose: This study was undertaken to identify the alcohol drinking status of industrial workers, their health care practice, and dietary behavior, as well as their nutrient intake. Methods: In July 2019, 220 male subjects working in the Chungnam area were enrolled in the study. Their alcohol drinking status was evaluated by applying the Alcohol Use Disorder Identification-K (AUDIT-K) system. Demographic characteristics, status of health care practice, and dietary behaviors were assessed using a self-administered questionnaire; nutrient intakes were analyzed using 24-hour recalls. Data were analyzed by applying χ2-test, ANOVA, Duncan test, and Pearson's correlation analysis with SPSS v. 25.0. Results: Workers were classified by their alcohol drinking status as 'normal' (84, 38.2%), 'problem drinker' (45, 20.5%), 'alcohol dependence I' (60, 27.3%), and 'alcohol dependence II' (31, 16.0%). The alcohol drinking status showed significant differences with age (p < 0.05), monthly income (p < 0.05), smoking status (p < 0.05), and need for weight control (p < 0.05). Moreover, increased alcohol intake resulted in significantly decreased levels of health care practice and dietary behaviors (p < 0.05, p < 0.01, respectively). The energy intake was highest in the 'alcohol dependence I' group, followed by 'alcohol dependence II', 'problem drinker', and 'normal drinker' (p < 0.05). Intakes of vitamin E, vitamin C, and niacin in the 'alcohol dependence I' group were found to be higher than the other groups (p < 0.05). A negative correlation was obtained between alcohol drinking status, health care practice, and dietary behaviors, whereas a positive correlation was determined between alcohol drinking status, energy and water intakes. Conclusion: Considering these results, we conclude the necessity to consider nutritional and alcoholic education programs for improving the quality of work life of industrial workers, based on their alcohol drinking status.

  • Microwatt power level at relatively high voltage(order of volt) was produced by $Bi_{0.5}Sb_{1.5}Te_{3}/Bi_{2}Te_{2.4}Se_{0.6}$ thin film thermoelectric generators, and maximum output power varied with temperature difference in the square-law relation. Output voltage and current were possible to control by changing the way of electrical connection as well as the number of stacking plate-modules. Variation of open circuit voltage and short circuit current with temperature difference showed a linear relationship. There were, however, some differences in variations; open circuit voltage were dependent on the number of plate-module when connected in series, but it was not for parallel connection. On the other hand, short circuit current showed the opposite behavior to the case of open circuit current.
