Synthesis and Luminescent Properties of Blue Light Emitting Polymers Containing a 4,4' or 3,3'-Linked Biphenyl Unit

  • Poly[4,4'(3,3')-biphenylenevinylene-alt-2-methoxy-5-(2-ethylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylene-vinylene], 4,4'(3,3')-PBPMEH-PPV, and poly[4,4'(3,3')-biphenylenevinylene-alt-N-ethylhexyl-3,6-carbazolevinylene], 4,4'(3,3')-PBPCAR-PPV, of varying effective conjugation lengths, were synthesized by the well-known Wittig condensation polymerization between the appropriate biphenyl diphosphonium salts and dialdehyde monomers such as carbazole or dialkoxyphenyl dialdehyde. The conjugation lengths of the polymers were controlled by biphenyl linkages (4,4' or 3,3'). The resulting polymers were highly soluble in common organic solvents and exhibited good thermal stability up to $300^{\circ}C$. The synthesized polymers showed UV-visible absorbance and photoluminescence (PL) in the ranges of 314-400 nm and 430-507 nm, respectively. Carbazole and 3,3'-biphenyl containing 3,3'-PBPCAR-PPV showed a blue PL peak at 430 nm. A single-layer light-emitting diode was fabricated in a configuration of ITO/polymer/Al. Electroluminescence (EL) emission of 3,3'-PBPCAR-PPV was shown at 455 nm.

  • In this paper, we study elliptic curves E over $\mathbb{Q}$ such that the 3-torsion subgroup E[3] is split as ${\mu}_3{\oplus}\mathbb{Z}/3{\mathbb{Z}}$. For a non-zero intege $m$, let $C_m$ denote the curve $x^3+y^3=m$. We consider the relation between the set of integral points of $C_m$ and the elliptic curves E with $E[3]{\simeq}{\mu}_3{\oplus}\mathbb{Z}/3{\mathbb{Z}}$.

  • 2,6-dimethyl-4-(3'-nitrophenyl)-1,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarboxylic acid 3-methyl 5-(2'-methylthio)ethyl ester methyl iodide salt (7a) was hydrolyzed by treatment with NaOH in aquous EtOH solution to give 2,6-dimethyl-4-(3'-nitrophenyl)-1,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarboxylic acid mono methyl ester (2b) in 88% yield. By the same procedure, 2,6-dimethyl-4-(3'-nitrophenyl)-1,4-dihydropyridinine-3,5-dicarboxylic acid 3-mono isopropyl ester (2c), 2,6-dimethyl-4-(2'-nitrophenyl)-1,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarboxylic acid 3-mono methyl ester (2d), 2,6-dimethyl-4-(2',3'-dichlorophenyl)-1,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarboxylic acid 3-mono methyl ester (2e) and 2,6-dimethyl-4-(3'-nitrophenyl)-1,4-dihydropyridin-3,5-dicarboxylic acid (2f) were obtained from the methyl iodide salts in 91-98% yield.

  • In recent years, the developments in 3D technologies have initiated the commercialization of 3D services on mobile devices. For this purpose, stereoscopic 3D technology is used, which enables 3D TV on mobile devices including smartphone with glasses-free 3D viewing. As a result, the issues related with stereo imaging have been spotlighted greatly. Especially, three MPEG coding standards are provided for mobile 3D services, namely H.264/AVC with and without SEI message and H.264/MVC. In this respect, this paper presents an overview of developments in stereoscopic technologies for mobile devices to gain some perspective on the changes and progress. in this paper, we verified the availability of android based stereoscipic 3D technology related with mobile 3D TV and Smartphone with special emphasis on 3D video format and 3D features by various technollogy characteristics analysis.

Relationships between pH, $NO_3{^-}$ and $PO{_4}^{3-}$ and phytoplankton distribution in the upper stream of Dorim-cheon (도림천 상류의 pH, $NO_3{^-}$, $PO{_4}^{3-}$와 식물성 플랑크톤 분포와의 관계)

  • The stream has various environments and they are serving as main habitats of aquatic organisms. The distribution of phytoplankton is affected by water environment, especially pH, nitrogen and phosphorus. To reveal the relationship between phytoplankton distribution and water environment, we measured pH, $NO_3{^-}$ and $PO{_4}^{3-}$ concentration, and abundance of phytoplankton at 10 sites in the upper stream of Dorim-cheon. pH value ranged 5.05 to 7.56. $NO_3{^-}$ and $PO{_4}^{3-}$ concentrations ranged 0.4 ~ 4.9ppm and 0.02 ~ 0.99ppm, respectively. A point source of $NO_3{^-}$ was Seoul National University but concentration was not high and dropped to normal range at 400m downstream. $NO_3{^-}/PO{_4}^{3-}$ ratio ranged 28 to 152 except site 4 (0.4) where was affected by $PO{_4}^{3-}$ point source. Water pH, $NO_3{^-}$ and $PO{_4}^{3-}$ concentrations increased with downstream and were related to the input of irrigation water from Han-river between site 5 and 6. Bacillariophyceae alge dominated this stream. Phytoplankton density increased abruptly at downstream of site 5. In general, phytoplankton density did not increase until the $NO_3{^-}$ concentration of 3.5ppm and $PO{_4}^{3-}$ concentration of 0.07ppm. Phytoplankton density was low at sites where $NO_3{^-}/PO{_4}^{3-}$ ratio was larger than 50.

Physiologic Races of Phytophthora infestans(Mont.) de Bary at Alpine Area, Korea during the Period from 1971 to 1973 (대관령 지방에 발생하는 감자역병균의 생리형)

  • During the period from 1971 to 73 physiologic races of potato late blight pathogen, Phytophthora infestans, causing severe losses of seed potato production at Alpine area, Korea, were investigated. In 1971, 68 isolates of the pathogen from various potato varieties were identified by the use of differential host Plants, and found that there were 10 races; 0, 1, 2, 3, 1.3, 1.4, 3.4, 1.3.4, 2.3.4. The most Predominant races for the year were 0 and 3. In 1972, the same procedure was repeated with 62 isolates of the pathogen, and found 5 different races; 0, 1, 4, 1.3 and 1.3.4. The most predominant race for the year was race 0. In 1973, six races; 0, 3, 4, 1.3, 3.4 and 1.3.4 were found from 76 isolates of the year, and the race 0 and 4 apperared as the most Predominant races for the year. Total of 11 races; 0, 1, 3, 4, 1.3, 1.4, 3.4, 1.3.4, 2.3.4 and 1.2.3.4, were found during the period from 1971 to 73 at Alpine area, among which the most predominant races were race 0, 3, and 4. The investigation indicated that the anual incidence of these races largely depended on the climatic conditions of the year.

Loss of Heterozygosity at 3p in Korean Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (한국인 비소세포폐암에서의 3p의 소실)

  • Purpose: Frequent deletion of 3p in numerous cancer including lung cancer suggests the presence of tumor suppressor gene. 3p has been analysed by RFLP and PCR-LOH of microsatellite locus. In this study, we observed the deletion of 3p in Korean NSCLC by PCR-LOH of 4 microsatellite loci and investigated the clinical significance. Method: 62 surgically resected NSCLC DNA and normal lung DNA have been analysed by PCR-LOH at three dinucleotide[D3S1228 (3p14.1-14.3), D3S1067 (3p14.3-21.1), D3S1029 (3p21.1-21.3)] and one tetranucleotide[D3S1537 (3p 22-24.2)] repeat microsatellite loci. Results: Among 59 informative cases, 3p deletion by PCR-LOH at four microsatellite loci was found in 31 patients(52.5%). 3p deletion were found in 55% of squamous cell lung cancer and 47% of adenocarcinoma patients. No significant difference has been found in clinical parameters such as staging, smoking and survival according to the status of 3p deletion. Conclusion: Deletions in 3p have played an important role in Korean NSCLC though no clinical significance was detected.

A Comparative Study on the Food Hygiene Attitude and Personal Hygiene Management of High School Students according to Gender (고등학생의 식품위생태도와 개인위생관리의 성별에 따른 비교연구)

  • This study aimed to provide basic data for the development of education programs on food hygiene attitude and personal hygiene management of high school students according to gender. From July 16 to October 15, 2015, questionnaires were distributed to 30 students per grade at 16 high schools in Chungcheongnam-do, and a total of 1,214 questionnaires(excluding uncollected and insufficient questionnaires) were processed using SPSS(ver 18.0). According to the study, female students more checked the expiration date for food(3.78, 3.57), ate stored food without heating(2.83, 3.02) and stored it according to the characteristics(3.92, 3.72) than male students. On the other hand, male students answered they looked at food packaging more closely(3.34, 3.22), and always used personal plates when they ate(3.43, 3.32), than female students. Female students were always better at hand washing after went to toilet(4.25, 3.94), used individual cups when using water purifiers(3.45, 3.32), kept nails cleaner(3.61, 3.49), and went around(2.14, 2.53) and went to toilet during meals than male students(2.22, 2.57). Boys answered they were better at hand washing before meals(3.64, 3.50), with right way(3.58, 3.46), and covering with a tissue, handkerchief or sleeve when they coughed(3.55, 3.37) than girls. In this study, high school students showed significant differences between gender in food hygiene attitude and personal hygiene management, with different areas requiring improvement. Therefore, this study suggests the need for education on food hygiene attitude and personal hygiene management differentiated according to gender.

CONCENTRATIONS OF MERCURY, CADMIUM, LEAD AND CUPPER IN THE SURROUNDING SEAWATER AND IN SEAWEEDS, UNDARIA PINNNATIFIDA AND SARGASSUM FULVELLUM, FROM SUYEONG BAY IN BUSAN (수영만 양식 미역, 모자반 및 환경해수의 수은, 카드뮴, 납, 구리의 농도에 대하여)

  • Concentrations of mercury, cadmium, lead and copper are determined in the surrounding seawater and in seaweeds, Undarta pinnatifida and Sargassun fulvellum, from Suyeong Bay in Busan in the spring tide and neap tide from January to April 1974. The range and mean of the heavy metal concentrations in the surrounding seawater are as follows : mercury 0.00-0.39 ppb, 0. 16ppb; cadmium 0.00-0.46 ppb, 0.18 ppb, lead 0.00-0.94 ppb, 0.26 ppb : copper 0.00-0.86 ppb, 0.25 ppb respectively, and the concentrations varied slightly according to the tide. The mean values of concentration rate of Hg, Cd, Pb and Cu in air dry base were $0.42\times10^3(0.13\times10^3\~1.0\times10^3)$, $2.1\times10^3(0.8\times10^3\~4.9\times10^3)$, $8.9\times10^3(3.1\times10^3\~19\times10^3)$ and $15\times10^3(6.0\times10^3\~28\times10^3)$ in the Undaria pinnatifida, and $0.25\times10^3($0.06\times10^3\~0.56\times10^3)$, $1.0\times10^3(0.61\times10^3\~1.7\times10^3)$, $5.4\times10^3(3.1\times10^3\~8.5\times10^3)$ and $22.8\times10^3(14.4\times10^3\~52.4\times10^3)$ in the Sargassun fulvellum. The concentration rate of Hg, Cd and Pb of the Undaria pinnatifida was almost twice as much as that of the Sargassun fulvellum but the concentration rate of copper of the former was slightly smaller than of the latter.
