  • This study aims to assess the slope stability variation of Jeollabuk-do drainage areas by RCM model outputs based on A1B climate change scenario and infinite slope stability model based on the specific catchment area concept. For this objective, we downscaled RCM data in time and space: from watershed scale to rain gauge scale in space and from monthly data to daily data in time and also developed the GIS-based infinite slope stability model based on the concept of specific catchment area to calculate spatially-distributed wetness index. For model parameterization, topographic, geologic, forestry digital map were used and model parameters were set up in format of grid cells($90m{\times}90m$). Finally, we applied the future daily rainfall data to the infinite slope stability model and then assess slope stability variation under the climate change scenario. This research consists of two papers: the first paper focuses on the methodologies of climate change scenario preparation and infinite slope stability model development.

  • This paper describes a synthetic route to novel 2'-methyl and 4'-hydroxy carbocyclic nucleosides. The methyl group was successfully installed by carbonyl addition reaction of isopropenyl magnesium bromide followed by ring-closing metathesis and the hydroxy group was directly introduced from carbohydrate chiral template "D-lactose".ose".uot;.

  • The purpose of power system maintenance is to prevent equipment failure. The maintenance strategy should be designed to balance costs and benefits because frequent maintenance increases cost while infrequent maintenance can also be costly due to electricity outages. This paper proposes maintenance modeling of a power distribution system using reliability centered maintenance (RCM). The proposed method includes comprehensive equipment modeling and impact analysis to evaluate the effect of equipment faults. The problem of finding the optimum maintenance strategy is formulated in terms of dynamic programming. The applied power system is based on the RBTS Bus 2 model, and the results demonstrate the potential for designing a maintenance strategy using the proposed model.

  • A software called KEPCO RCM workstation (KRCM) has been developed to optimize the maintenance strategies of Korean nuclear power plants. The program modules the KRCM were designed in a manner that combines EPRI methodologies and KEPRI analysis technique. The KRCM is being applied to the three Pilot systems, chemical and volume control system, main steam system, and compressed air system of Yonggwang units 1&2. In addition, the KRCM can be utilized as a tool to meet a part of the requirements maintenance rule (MR) imposed by U.S. NRC.

  • Engineering systems are usually repairable. The reliability of a repairable system can be represented by failure intensity function. A type of shape of failure intensity function is called a failure pattern. Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM) presents six typical failure patterns but its definition is unclear. It is an open issue how to recognize the failure pattern of repairable systems. This paper first discusses the problems of RCM with the notion of failure pattern; then presents the method for failure pattern recognition; and finally proposes a flexible failure intensity function model. The appropriateness of the model is illustrated by a real-world example.

  • In this paper, we suggest a method to acquire the moving object centered video by panning and tilting a camera automatically according to motion vectors calculated by detecting the motion of a moving object on video steam. We create a difference image by estimating the intensity difference at the grid points of neighboring frames. And we detect the motion using both horizontal projection histogram and vertical projection histogram and decide the center of motion part. Then we calculate a new direction and degree of the motion by comparing coordinates at the center of current motion and the center of previous motion. By controling the RCM using these Motion vectors, we can get video stream positioned unwire object on the center of video frame. Through the experiments, we could get a moving object centered video stream continuously arid monitor remotely by implementing sever/client architecture based on the web.

  • The osteoblastic cell activity is important for born formation, thus, this study was performed to investigation of that the effect of edible sources, Rubus coreanus Miquel (RCM), on the proliferation and differentiation of MC3T3-E1 osteoblastic like cell. The effects of RCM extract on cell proliferation were measured by MIT assay. At 1, $10\;{\mu}g/mL$ of RCM extract treated, that were elevated of cell proliferation to 103 and $142\%$ via control, respectively. And the cell differentiation were measured as alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity at 3, 9, 18, and 27 days. As the results, the $10\;{\mu}g/mL$ was increased ALP activity more than 2.6 times compared with control, 1.4 times via positive control at 27th day (p<0.05). The optical concentration of RC extract was rechecked by ALP staining and Alizarin Red staining for investigation of the induction of ALP activity, nodule formation by mineralization. mRNA expression analysis showed that the RCM $(10\;{\mu}g/mL)$ increased in SOX9 as well as ALP in MC3T3-E1 cells. These results suggest that RC extract was stimulates the MC3T3-E1 cell proliferation and differentiation.

  • It is expected that water resources will be changed spatially and temporally due to the global climate change. The quantitative assessment of change in water availability and appropriate water resources management measures are needed for corresponding adaptation. However, there are large uncertainties in climate change impact assessment on water resources. For this reason, development of technology to evaluate the uncertainties quantitatively is required. The objectives of this study are to develop the climate change uncertainty assessment method and to apply it. The 5 RCMs (HadGEM3-RA, RegCM4, MM5, WRF, and RSM), 5 statistical post-processing methods (SPP) and 2 hydrological models (HYM) were applied for evaluation. The results of the uncertainty analysis showed that the RCM was the largest sources of uncertainty in Spring, Summer, Autumn (29.3~68.9%), the hydrological model was the largest source of uncertainty in Winter (46.5%). This method can be possible to analyze the changes in the total uncertainty according to the specific RCM, SPP, HYM model. And then it is expected to provide the method to reduce the total uncertainty.

  • As an attempt to explore the impact of droughts which may be worse by the climate change, the change in the water balance of the Han-river basin is analyzed. To accomplish it, we suggest a procedure consisting of three successive sub-procedures: daily rainfall generation for 70 years by the RegCM3 RCM ($27{\times}27\;km$) with the A2 scenario, daily discharge simulations by SLURP using the generated daily rainfall data, and monthly water balance analysis by K-WEAP (Korean Water Evaluation and Planning System) based on the SLURP simulation. Since significant uncertainty is involved in forecasting the future water consumption and water yields, we assumed three water consumption scenarios and fifty water yields scenarios. Three water consumption scenarios are, namely, "LOW", "MEDIUM", and "HIGH" according to the expected amount of water consumption. The fifty daily discharges are obtained from the SLURP simulations during the drought period. Finally, water balance analysis is performed by K-WEAP based on 150 combinations from three water consumption scenarios and the fifty daily discharges. Analysis of water scarcity in small basins of the Han River basin showed concentration of water scarcity in some small basins. It was also found that water scarcity would increase in all small basins of the Han River basin.
