  • Han-ok (the Korean traditional house) is famous for its beauty and healthful aspects. However, its construction cost is too high because of the manual process of parts such as rafter, timber, etc. These days, many people want to build a modernized Korean traditional house at a low cost. In order to do so, the rafter machining process is required to be automatized using a CNC machine. It is also observed that, generally the timber does not have a uniform shape. Therefore, it is also needed to examine the timber shape before starting its processing. This paper presents the concept design of the rafter processing CNC machine, and a 3D laser scanning system. The laser scanner is developed to acquire 3D details of the timber shape. Furthermore, the results of simulated experiments are presented to investigate surface roughness during the machining process of the timber. Since cutting parameters largely influence on surface roughness and cusps formation, it is needed to achieve optimal machining parameters. Several experiments were carried out changing cutting parameters such as cutting tool diameter, feed-rate, and spindle speed.

  • This paper introduces a novel approach that can provide the three dimensional information about the movement of a spreader by using two CCD cameras and a laser distance measuring unit in order to derive ALS (Automatic Landing System) in the crane used at a harbor. So far a kind of 2D Laser scanner sensor or laser distance measuring units are used as comer detectors for the geometrical matching between the spreader and a container. Such systems provide only two dimensional information which is not enough for an accurate and fast ALS. In addition to this deficiency in performance, the price of the system is too high to adapt to the ALS. Therefore, to overcome these defects, we proposed a novel method to acquire the three dimensional spreader information using two CCD cameras and a laser distance measuring unit. To show the efficiency of proposed method, real experiments are performed to show the improvement of accuracy in distance measurement by fusing the sensory information of the CCD cameras and a laser distance measuring unit.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of provisional crowns manufactured using a milling machine and a digital light processing (DLP) printer. Methods: A full-contour crown was designed using computer-aided design software. Provisional crowns of this design were manufactured using a milling machine and using a DLP three-dimensional (3D) printer (N=20). The provisional crowns were digitized with an extraoral scanner, and 3D deviation analysis was applied to the scanned data to confirm their accuracy. An independent t-test was performed to detect the significant differences, and the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used for analysis (α=0.05). Results: No significant differences were found among the precision of marginal surface between the printed and milled crowns (p=0.181). The trueness of marginal and internal surfaces of the milled crowns were statistically higher than those of the printed crowns (p=0.024, p=0.001; respectively). Conclusion: The accuracy of provisional crowns manufactured using a milling machine and a 3D printer differed significantly except with regards to the precision of the internal surface. However, all the crowns were clinically acceptable, regardless of the manufacturing method used.

  • The 3/2-way valve supplies the high pressure air to ship engine for starting engine. In this paper, the high pressure 3/2 way valve for ship engine has the goal as reverse engineering by searching the fluid characteristic at this valve. The reverse engineering of 3/2-way valve is measured directly by Verier-calipers and is compared with 3D scanner. The fluid characteristic in this valve is used for a simulation method by ANSYS CFX 12.1. On the contrary, discs and the shaft are as the important components on numerical simulation by controlling the air flow at this valve. The fluid characteristics are seen to make high velocity and complicated vortex around the shaft. And the flow coefficient is calculated in order to apply for industrial field.

  • Objective: To investigate whether the accuracy of 3D laser scanning is influenced by the angles and number of scans. Methods: Using a 3D laser scanner, 10 manikins with facial markers were scanned at 7 horizontal angles (front view and at $20^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, and $60^{\circ}$ angles on the right and left sides). Three-dimensional facial images were reconstructed by 6 methods differing in the number and angles of scans, and measurements of these images were compared to the physical measurements from the manikins. Results: The laser scan images were magnified by 0.14 - 0.26%. For images reconstructed by merging 2 scans, excluding the front view; and by merging 3 scans, including the front view and scans obtained at $20^{\circ}$ on both sides; several measurements were significantly different than the physical measurements. However, for images reconstructed by merging 3 scans, including the front view; and 5 scans, including the front view and scans obtained at $20^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ on both sides; only 1 measurement was significantly different. Conclusions: These results suggest that the number and angle of scans influence the accuracy of 3D laser scanning. A minimum of 3 scans, including the front view and scans obtained at more than $45^{\circ}$ on both sides, should be integrated to obtain accurate 3D facial images.

  • The SWBF(shrink-wrapped boundary face) algorithm is a recent mesh reconstruction method for constructing a surface model from a set of unorganized 3D points. In this paper, we point out the surface duplication problem of SWBF and propose an improved mesh reconstruction scheme. Our method tries to classify the non-boundary cells as the inner cell or the outer cell, and makes an initial mesh without surface duplication by adopting the improved boundary face definition. To handle the directional unbalance of surface sampling density arise in typical 3D scanners, two dimensional connectivity in the cell image is introduced and utilized. According to experiments, our method is proved to be very useful to overcome the surface duplication problem of the SWBF algorithm.

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze the lower part of dress forms with different sectional rotation-angles ($e.g.\;9^{\circ},\;15^{\circ},\;30^{\circ},\;45^{\circ}$) using three-dimensional measurement system and to investigate measurement properties for dress making. The dress forms used in this experiment were size 8 and six types: four from Korea and two from Japan. The instrument and tools for three-dimensional measurement was Whole Body 3D scanner (Exyma-WBS2H). The analysis program used in this experiment was Rapid Form 2004 PP1 (INUS technology, Inc, Korea). The measurement of dress forms was done three times with different sectional rotation-angles and its data were analyzed using SPSS WIN 10.0 Package. The following results were obtained: 1. With mean and standard deviation of each measured part, it was found out that the dress forms from two countries were different in size per each part. For example, the Japanese one was relatively large in middle hip and hip, compared to the Korean one. 2. The 3D analysis of the sectional rotation-angles revealed some differences between the two dress forms in sectional length per each part. 3. With cluster analysis results, it was found that there were definite differences among measurements per each part, especially in $30^{\circ}\;and\;45^{\circ}$ sections. 4. The proportion of the dress forms showed significant differences in the curvature between center and side section of the lower parts. In addition, the shapes on the horizontal section map of the four levels (waist, middle hip, hip, and bottom) were analyzed.

  • Shoulder pain, injury and discomfort are public health and economic issues world-wide. The function of these joints and the stresses developed during their movement is a major concern to the orthopedic surgeon to study precisely the injury mechanisms and thereby analyze the post-operative progress of the injury. Shoulder is one of the most critical joints in the human anatomy with maximum degrees of freedom. It mainly consists of the clavicle, scapula and humerus; the articulations linking them; and the muscles that move them. In order to understand the behavior of individual muscle during abduction arm movement, an attempt has been made to analyze the stresses developed in the shoulder muscles during abduction arm movement during the full range of motion by using the 3D FEM model. 3D scanning (ATOS III scanner) is used for the 3D shoulder joint cad model generation in CATIA V5. Muscles are added and then exported to the ANSYS APDL solver for stress analysis. Sensitivity Analysis is done for stress and strain behavior amongst different shoulder muscles; deltoid, supraspinatus, teres minor, infraspinatus, and subscapularies during adduction arm movement. During the individual deltoid muscle analysis, the von Mises stresses induced in deltoid muscle was maximum (4.2175 MPa) and in group muscle analysis it was (2.4127MPa) compared to other individual four rotor cuff muscles. The study confirmed that deltoid muscle is more sensitive muscle for the abduction arm movement during individual and group muscle analysis. The present work provides in depth information to the researchers and orthopedicians for the better understanding about the shoulder mechanism and the most stressed muscle during the abduction arm movement at different ROM. So during rehabilitation, the orthopedicians should focus on strengthening the deltoid muscles at earliest.

  • Objectives : This work aimed to review clinical trial trend of Korean medicine's face rejuvenation and suggest future trial using embedded needle(Maesun) based on Evidence-based medicine's PICO Model. Methods : 46 papers were searched from Oasis and DBPia, then 8 papers were engaged in review of clinical trial trend. Based on PICO model, clinical trial's patient, intervention, and outcome measurement were suggested. Results : Evidence level of clinical trials is relatively low, because their study designs are almost case report or case series. No study have comparison groups. Outcome measurement is varied, however, 3D face scanner were used to measure before-after changes of face. Based on review, we suggested that necessity of intervention standardization, measuring of normal control group and 2D/3D combined outcome measurement of face. Conclusions : There are many demands for revealing efficacy and safety of Korean medicine's intervention, also for face rejuvenation using embedded needle. For meeting the level of demands, more rigorous works are needed.
