  • This study analyzed the output precision of 3D printing methods. The inner impeller of the centrifugal compressor was printed in as a sheet with 100% packing density using two methods: field deposition modelling and stereolithography. Dimensional differences between the initial CAD and printed models were evaluated using a 3D scanner. To investigate the dimensional characteristics of the 3D printed impeller, 3D dimension analysis and point dimension analysis were performed. The point dimension analysis was divided into 3D and 2D for comparative analysis.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the soft-tissue change after the maxillary protraction therapy using threedimensional (3D) facial images. Materials and Methods: This study used pretreatment (T1) and posttreatment (T2) 3D facial images from thirteen Class III malocclusion patients (6 boys and 7 girls; mean age, $8.9{\pm}2.2years$) who received maxillary protraction therapy. The facial images were taken using the optical scanner (Rexcan III 3D scanner), and T1 and T2 images were superimposed using forehead area as a reference. The soft-tissue changes after the treatment (T2-T1) were three-dimensionally calculated using 15 soft-tissue landmarks and 3 reference planes. Results: Anterior movements of the soft-tissue were observed on the pronasale, subnasale, nasal ala, soft-tissue zygoma, and upper lip area. Posterior movements were observed on the lower lip, soft-tissue B-point, and soft-tissue gnathion area. Vertically, most soft-tissue landmarks moved downward at T2. In transverse direction, bilateral landmarks, i.e. exocanthion, zygomatic point, nasal ala, and cheilion moved more laterally at T2. Conclusion: Facial soft-tissue of Class III malocclusion patients was changed three-dimensionally after maxillary protraction therapy. Especially, the facial profile was improved by forward movement of midface and downward and backward movement of lower face.

  • Bolting degradation problems in primary coolant pressure boundary applications have become a major concern in the nuclear industry. In the bolts concerned, the failure mechanism was either corrosion wastage(loss of bolt diameter) or stress-corrosion cracking.(3) Here the manual ultrasonic testing of RPV(Reactor Pressure Vessel) and RCP(Reactor Coolant Pump) stud has been performed. But it is difficult to detect indications because examiner can not exactly control the rotation angle and can not distinguish the indication from signals of bolt. In many cases, the critical sizes of damage depth are very small(1-2 mm order). At critical size, the crack tends to propagatecompletly through the bolt under stress, Resulting in total fracture.(3) Automatic stud scanner for studs(bolts) was developed because the precise measurement of bolt diameter is required in this circumstance. By use of this scanner, the rotation angle of probe was exactly controlled and the exposure time of radiations was reduced.

  • This paper describes a technique, which analyzes the functional instability of the ankle using three-dimensional scanner. The technique is based on the structured light pattern projection method, which is performed by using one digital still camera and one LCD projector. This system can be easily realized with the low cost. The measuring result has high accuracy. The measuring error is about 0.2 mm or less. Using this technique the three-dimensional posture of the leg and foot of the target person are measured and analyzed.

  • Shape reconstruction is considered as a new technology to be useful and important in many areas such as RPD (Rapid Product Development) and reverse engineering, compared with the conventional design and manufacturing. In shape reconstruction, it becomes possible to reconstruct objects not by their measured shape data but those data extracted from the original shape. The goal of this research is to realize 3D shape construction by showing a possible way to analyze the input image data and reconstruct that original shape. The main 2 steps of the reconstructing process are getting cross-section data from image processing and linking loops between one slice and the next one. And the reconstructed object in this way is compared with the other object using a laser scanner and modelled by an commercial software.

  • For tracking a varying number of people using laser range finder, it is important to deal with appearance/disappearance of people due to various causes including occlusions. We propose a method for tracking people with automatic initialization by integrating observations from laser range finder. In our method, the problem of estimating 2D positions and orientations of multiple people's walking direction is formulated based on a mixture kalman filter. Proposal distributions of a kalman filter are constructed by using a mixture model that incorporates information from a laser range scanner. Our experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of our method.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study compared of reproducibility of prepared tooth impression scanning utilized with white and blue light scanners. Methods: To evaluate reproducibility with white and blue light scanners, the impression of premolar were rotated by $10^{\circ}{\sim}20^{\circ}$ and scanned. These data were compared with the first 3-D data (STL file), and the error sizes were measured (n=5). Independent t test was used to evaluation the reproducibility of impression of premolar with white versus blue light scanners through discrepancies of mean, RMS (${\alpha}=0.05$). Results: Discrepancies of mean with regard to reproducibility were $11.2{\mu}m$, $5.8{\mu}m$, respectively, with white and blue light scanners (p<0.047). And discrepancies of RMS with regard to reproducibility were $33.4{\mu}m$, $18.8{\mu}m$, respectively, with white and blue light scanners (p<0.045). Conclusion: Our results indicate a good reproducibility of prepared tooth impression digitized with blue light scanner more than that with white light scanner.

  • The setting parameters of ultrasound scanner give influences to change of image. Sonographers have used a Matlab program to make Low Contrast Sensitivity(LCS) value and compared original images in order to evaluate the use of the supersonic diagnosis machinery. We confirmed the change of image in Grayscale values using Photoshop program. Experiment equipment of our research used A Medison Accuvix V10, A Multi-Tissue Ultrasound Phantom(040 GSE) of CHRIS Company, A Adobe Photoshop CS4 Program, A Convex Probe, A USB memory stick, A Probe Fixation Equipment. The method used Gain, Dynamic Range(DR) of the setting parameters of ultrasound scanner and researched Gain and DR was set to 10 dB. We changed the different settings to see the changes of images using Grayscale values of a Photoshop program about tissue images of a phantom. This study evaluated DR and Gain whether it is an image controller to get the optimum contrast to produce an image to see the how effect on the images. We did not use Gateway in supersonic diagnosis machinery. We can easily open to open the files through Photoshop program before we get Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine(DICOM) files use USB memory stick in supersonic diagnosis machinery. When we diagnosed the lesion of the patient with ultrasound, the contrast and the Gray scale value of image are very important. In this research, we determined the optimum setting parameters that provided useful information to diagnose disease and evaluated the change of improved images.

  • THRA(Total Hip Replacement Arthroplasty) has been widely used for several decades as a viable treatment of otherwise-unsolved hip problems. In THRA surgery, cement mantle thickness is critical to long-term implant survival of femoral stem fixed with cement. Numerous studies reported thin or incomplete cement mantle causes osteolysis, loosening, and the failure of implant. To analyze the effect of femoral stem rotation on cement thickness, in this study, we select two most popular stems used in THRA. Using CAD models obtained from a 3D scanner, we measure the cement mantle thickness developed by the rotation of a femoral stem in the virtual space created by broaching. The study shows that as the femoral stem deviates from the target coordinates, the minimum thickness of cement decreases. Therefore, we recommend development of a new methodology for accurate insertion of a femoral stem along the broached space. Also, modification of the stem design robust to the unintentional movement of a femoral stem in the broached space, can alleviate the problem.
