Influence of $1{\alpha}$, 25-dihydroxyvitamin $D_3$ [1, $25(OH)_2D_3$] on the expression of Sox 9 and the transient receptor potential vanilloid 5/6 ion channels in equine articular chondrocytes

  • Background: Sox 9 is a major marker of chondrocyte differentiation. When chondrocytes are cultured in vitro they progressively de-differentiate and this is associated with a decline in Sox 9 expression. The active form of vitamin D, 1, 25 $(OH)_2D_3$ has been shown to be protective of cartilage in both humans and animals. In this study equine articular chondrocytes were grown in culture and the effects of 1, 25 $(OH)_2D_3$ upon Sox 9 expression examined. The expression of the transient receptor potential vanilloid (TRPV) ion channels 5 and 6 in equine chondrocytes in vitro, we have previously shown, is inversely correlated with de-differentiation. The expression of these channels in response to 1, 25 $(OH)_2D_3$ administration was therefore also examined. Results: The active form of vitamin D (1, 25 $(OH)_2D_3$ when administered to cultured equine chondrocytes at two different concentrations significantly increased the expression of Sox 9 at both. In contrast 1, 25 $(OH)_2D_3$ had no significant effect upon the expression of either TRPV 5 or 6 at either the protein or the mRNA level. Conclusions: The increased expression of Sox 9, in equine articular chondrocytes in vitro, in response to the active form of vitamin D suggests that this compound could be utilized to inhibit the progressive de-differentiation that is normally observed in these cells. It is also supportive of previous studies indicating that $1{\alpha}$, 25-dihydroxyvitamin $D_3$ can have a protective effect upon cartilage in animals in vivo. The previously observed correlation between the degree of differentiation and the expression levels of TRPV 5/6 had suggested that these ion channels may have a direct involvement in, or be modulated by, the differentiation process in vitro. The data in the present study do not support this.

  • This paper proposes a stereo image insertion technique on DCT coefficients using the embedded method developed in the digital watermarking in due consideration of compatibility with conventional 2D system such JPEG, and MPEG. In conventional transmission method users with conventional digital TV cannot watch the transmitted 3D image sequence as 2D image, because of affectivity of conventional 3D image compression. To give an answer, in this paper, DCT coefficients are changed according to its disparity on YCbCr channels. Our method can insert stereo images into a conventional image compression method based on DCT.

CATIA CAD 시스템 기반 핫폼금형의 냉각수로 설계 자동화에 관한 연구 (A Study on Design Automation of Cooling Channels in Hot Form Press Die Based on CATIA CAD System)

  • 본 논문은 흔히 핫스탬핑 공법으로 알려진 냉각수로가 있는 핫폼 금형의 설계 데이터를 신속히 생성하는 지원 시스템 개발에 초점을 둔다. 현장에서의 핫폼 금형의 설계조건과 설계 프로세스 분석을 통해 설계지원 시스템의 핵심기능들을 도출하고, 이를 기반한 새로운 핫폼 금형의 설계 프로세스를 제안 한다. 개발한 설계 지원 시스템은 핫폼 금형의 3차원 형상 모델과 2차원 도면을 생성하는 두 개의 모듈로 구성된다. 핫폼 금형의 3D 모델링 자동화 모듈은 CATAI V5 Knowledgeware를 기반한 CATAI 템플릿 모델 형태로 구현하였다. 이 모듈은 성형 곡면형상, STEEL(금형 Product를 구성하는 파트) 개수와 냉각수로의 개수에 대응하여 냉각수로를 포함한 핫폼금형의 3D 모델을 자동으로 생성한다. 또한 냉각수로의 위치와 자세를 편집하는 기능과 성형곡면과 냉각수로 사이의 거리에 대한 구속조건 만족여부를 판별하는 기능을 제공한다. 두 번째 모듈인 2D 가공도면을 자동 생성하는 모듈은 CAA(CATIA SDK)와 Visual C++를 활용하여 CATIA CAD시스템에 이식 가능한 플러그인 형태로 개발 하였다. 제안하는 방법의 성능을 평가하기 위해 사용자 정의 시나리오 기반 소프트웨어 테스트를 수행하였다. 실험결과 제안하는 방법은 수작업 기반의 전통적인 방법에 비해 설계 오류 없이 약 29배 빠르게 핫폼 금형 3D모델과 홀테이블을 포함하는 가공도면을 생성하였다.

  • By using unique experimental techniques and careful construction of the experimental apparatus, the characteristics of the local heat transfer were investigated using the condensing R134a two-phase flow, in horizontal single mini-channels. The circular channels ($D_h=0.493$, 0.691, and 1.067 mm) and rectangular channels ($D_h=0.494$, 0.658, and 0.972 mm) were tested and compared. Tests were performed for a mass flux of 100, 200, 400, and 600 $kg/m^2s$, a heat flux of 5 to 20 $kW/m^2$, and a saturation temperature of $40^{\circ}C$. In this study, effect of heat flux, mass flux, vapor qualities, hydraulic diameter, and channel geometry on flow condensation were investigated and the experimental local condensation heat transfer coefficients are shown. The experimental data of condensation Nusselt number are compared with existing correlations.

  • Tidal channel development is influenced by sediment type, grain size, composition and tidal current. Tidal channels are usually characterized by channel development, density and shape. Quantitative analysis of tidal channels using remotely sensed data have rarely been studied. The objective of this study is to quantify tidal channels in terms of fractal dimension and compare different inter-tidal channel patterns. For the fractal analysis, we used Box counting method which had been successfully applied to streams, coastlines and others linear features. For a study, the southern part of Ganghwado tidal flats was selected where is famous for high dynamics of tidal currents and vast tidal flats. This area has different widths and lengths of tidal channels. IKONOS and Komsat-2 MSC images were used for extracting tidal channels, and the Box counting method was applied to obtain fractal dimensions (D) for each tidal channel. Yeochari area possesses channels with linear pattern and less dense development and accordingly show low D values ranging from 1.037 to 1.038. On other hands, area (near Donggumdo and Yeongjongdo ) of dendrites channel pattern and dense development resulted in high D values from 1.2057 to 1.2667. Also, area possesses channels with linear pattern had low density about $18{\sim}24%$. Area of dendritic channel pattern had high density about $34{\sim}69%$. The difference of fractal dimensions about 0.2 according to channel development in tidal flats is relatively large enough to use as an index for tidal channel classification. Also, area where channels showed linear pattern had low density about $18{\sim}24%$. Area of dendritic channel pattern had high density about $34{\sim}69%$. Using fractal dimension and density, it would be possible to quantify the tidal channel development in association with surface characteristics.

Interference-Aware Channel Assignment Algorithm in D2D overlaying Cellular Networks

  • Device-to-Device (D2D) communications can provide proximity based services in the future 5G cellular networks. It allows short range communication in a limited area with the advantages of power saving, high data rate and traffic offloading. However, D2D communications may reuse the licensed channels with cellular communications and potentially result in critical interferences to nearby devices. To control the interference and improve network throughput in overlaid D2D cellular networks, a novel channel assignment approach is proposed in this paper. First, we characterize the performance of devices by using Poisson point process model. Then, we convert the throughput maximization problem into an optimal spectrum allocation problem with signal to interference plus noise ratio constraints and solve it, i.e., assigning appropriate fractions of channels to cellular communications and D2D communications. In order to mitigate the interferences between D2D devices, a cluster-based multi-channel assignment algorithm is proposed. The algorithm first cluster D2D communications into clusters to reduce the problem scale. After that, a multi-channel assignment algorithm is proposed to mitigate critical interferences among nearby devices for each D2D cluster individually. The simulation analysis conforms that the proposed algorithm can greatly increase system throughput.

이동무선 채널에서 DTMF 변조 방식에 대한 RS 복부호기의 설계 및 성능평가 (Design and Performance Evaluation of RS Codec for DTMF Modulation in Mobile Radio Channels)

  • 본 논문에서는 페이딩이 존재하는 이동통신 채널에서 DTMF 변조의 신뢰성을 보장하기 위해 RS 부호의 적용을 고려하고, (15, 9) RS 인코더와 디코더 회로를 제안 및 합성하였으며, 페이딩 채널에서 부호의 성능을 구하였다. 소요된 게이트는 2-Input NAND 게이트를 기준으로 약 14,000 게이트가 소요되었다. 이와 같이 구현된 (15,9) RS 부호를 DTMF 신호방식에 적용하였을 경우 IMT-2000 등 이동통신에서 데이터 전송의 기준인 10-6의 비트오율을 기준으로 페이딩 채널의 경우 20 dB 이상의 부호이득을 보인다. 따라서 페이딩이 존재하는 이동 통신에서 데이터 전송을 위한 DTMF 신호방식에 본 부호기를 적용하는 것은 매우 효과적이라 할 수 있다.

  • Small conductance $Ca^{2+}$-activated $K^{+}$ channels (or S $K_{Ca}$ channels) are a group of $K^{+}$-selective ion channels activated by sub-micromolar concentrations of intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ independent of membrane voltage. We expressed a cloned S $K_{Ca}$ channel, rSK2, in Xenopus oocytes and investigated the monovalent cation selectivity of the channels. We have used site-directed mutagenesis and macro-channel recordings to identify amino acid residues influencing the ion selectivity.(omitted)d)
